ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Nick Adenhart didn't have long to enjoy his first major league victory. He was just happy to get it before he was sent down to the minors to make way for John Lackey's return to the Los Angeles Angels' rotation.
After pitching the Angels to a 10-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night, Adenhart was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake and Jose Arredondo was recalled from the team's Pacific Coast League club to give manager Mike Scioscia an extra arm in the bullpen before he gives the ball to Lackey for his first start of the season Wednesday night.
Lackey, who won 18 games last season for the defending AL West champions, has been sidelined since March 21 with a strained right triceps.
``My role was to come up for a few starts and do what I could to help this team win,'' Adenhart said. ``It was kind of a long week or so after a rough start but I made strides in the right direction. It was a little bit of a burden to not have that first W, but now I've got it out of the way and I can kind of move on. It feels good.''
Adenhart (1-0) allowed four runs and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings, walking three and striking out one. It was the third start for the 21-year-old right-hander, who has given up 12 earned runs, 18 hits and 13 walks over 12 innings.
``He's got good stuff and he's got a chance to be pretty good,'' White Sox catcher A.J. Piersynski said. ``He got a little wild here and there, but other than that he's got a good curve ball, good changeup and good life on his fastball.''
Vladimir Guerrero homered and drove in four runs, helping the Angels snap a four-game losing streak. The four RBIs matched Guerrero's total in his previous 23 games.
Jermaine Dye had four hits for the White Sox, who scored two runs in the eighth against Chris Bootcheck and one in the ninth against Scot Shields before Francisco Rodriguez got the final two outs for his major league-leading 15th save. He ended it by striking out Pierzynski with runners at the corners.
Mark Buehrle (1-5) gave up eight runs and 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings with six strikeouts. The left-hander has allowed 14 earned runs over 11 1-3 innings in his last two starts, after a 2-0 loss at Toronto in which he gave up a pair of unearned runs through eight innings. He is 0-5 with a 5.26 ERA in his last six outings.
``Maybe he angered the baseball gods somehow because he's got some bad luck going, so we've got to find a way to change his luck around,'' Pierzynski said. ``
Buehrle is 1-5 with a 4.76 ERA lifetime against the Angels, and is winless in his last 12 regular-season starts against them since pitching a four-hitter at Anaheim on Aug. 8, 2001.
``It's frustrating,'' Buehrle said. ``Anytime you make your pitches and guys put the ball in play, anything can happen. You've just got to keep your composure and try to get outs. But I'm not going to sit there and complain. There are going to be games where they hit the ball real hard five or six times and make outs. You keep on saying it all evens out. I just hope it starts evening out soon.''
Trailing 4-2, the Angels pulled ahead 6-4 in the fifth on Guerrero's three-run homer and Garret Anderson's RBI triple, one of his three hits. Rookie Sean Rodriguez and Gary Matthews Jr. opened the inning with infield hits before Guerrero drove a 1-0 pitch to left-center for his fourth homer and first since April 25.
``It was inside and off the plate. But that's Vlad. He swings at it,'' Pierzynski said. ``We've thrown him pitches a foot outside and he hits homers to right field. Tonight we pitched him a foot outside and he hits a homer to left. I think that was the first pitch we throw him inside the whole game. That just shows you how good he is and how dangerous he is.''
Anderson's second triple of the season came after another infield single by Robb Quinlan.
``They hit some balls in some perfect places.'' Pierzynski said. ``They found holes, and Vladdy obviously had the big blow. Then it kind of started to snowball from there.''
Third baseman Joe Crede, who had a pair of RBI singles for Chicago, committed a two-base throwing error on Matthews' two-out grounder in the sixth. It led to four unearned runs and a 10-4 Angels lead. Erick Aybar chased Buehrle with an RBI double, Guerrero followed with an RBI single against Ehren Wasserman, and Casey Kotchman added a two-run single against Boone Logan.
``We needed every one of those runs as it turned out,'' Scioscia said. ``It was good to see some guys break out. We did a good job with runners in scoring position.''
Before the game, Scioscia presented White Sox shortstop Orlando Cabrera with the Gold Glove Award he earned last season with the Halos in a brief ceremony at home plate. It was Cabrera's second Gold Glove, the other coming in 1991 with the Montreal Expos.
Notes: Cabrera played three seasons with the Angels before they traded him to Chicago for RHP Jon Garland in November. Cabrera is batting .230 with a homer and six RBIs in 143 at_bats. Garland is 4-3 with a 4.30 ERA in eight starts. ... Angels RHP Dustin Moseley, who gave up Jim Thome's 500th career homer on Sept. 16 at Chicago, gave up three hits and no runs over 3 2-3 innings while striking out six in a 60-pitch rehab start with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. He went on the disabled list May 4 with tightness in his forearm.
