NEW YORK (AP) -Annika Sorenstam might have found herself a post-retirement job - pitcher.

Sorenstam threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the New York Mets on Tuesday night, several hours after she announced that she was going to retire from professional golf career at the end of the year.

The 37-year-old, wearing a white Mets home jersey with the No. 59 and ``Annika'' on the back, stood near the New York dugout during several pregame activities, holding a ball in her right hand and doing windmills in order to get loose and also practicing her throwing motion.

She shook third baseman David Wright's hand and then fit right in jogging to the mound with the Mets as they took the field for the first time, her blond ponytail bobbing out from her orange cap. The public address announcer introduced her as ``the greatest women's golfer of all-time, who announced her retirement at the end of 2008.''

Throwing from the rubber - no, she didn't use a wedge - Sorenstam's pitch bounced in the right-hander's batter's box about equal with the plate.
