Recap: Grizzlies , Magic
Date: October 22, 2008 7:00 PM EDT

ORLANDO, Fla (AP) -Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu each scored 22 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a 101-90 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday night in the final preseason game for both teams.

J.J. Redick, competing for time at shooting guard, added 15 as the Magic cruised to their sixth straight preseason win.

Reserve Darrell Arthur led Memphis with 18 points. Mike Conley added 13.

Magic star Dwight Howard, who played sparingly in the second half, had 11 points and eight rebounds as Orlando showed signs of being ready to improve on its 52-win, Eastern Conference semifinal performance last season.

Orlando led 53-33 at halftime and scored the first nine points of the second half to blow the game open. Memphis never got closer than 10 the rest of the game.

``We have a special group of guys,' Howard said. ``Not often you'll find a good group of guys play together like we do. This moment never comes to too many people like this.'

Health has been a concern for the Magic, who've had one starter and three subs injured through much of the preseason.

Turkoglu, nursing a groin injury, started and played 34 minutes. He scored six of the Magic's first 11 points and finished with seven rebounds and four assists.

The Magic look to have settled their backcourt puzzle. Mickael Pietrus has earned the starting spot at shooting guard even though his offense has been less than spectacular. During the preseason the free-agent signee from Golden State has averaged less than 10 points a game and shot only 36 percent from the field.

Pietrus sustained a cut over his right eye when he tripped while driving the lane late in the first half. He did not start the third quarter, but entered with just under three minutes left wearing a bandage.

First-round pick Courtney Lee is projected at the backup at both guard spots, but played only three minutes in the first half. Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said during the shootaround Wednesday that Lee would probably get extended minutes.

``He needs them to get comfortable with our system,' Van Gundy said.

Lee finished with five points in 15 minutes.

In the offseason Memphis lost its two best long distance threats, Mike Miller and Juan Carlos Navarro. The Grizzlies are counting on rookie O.J. Mayo to replace them, but he was 0-for-2 from 3-point range in the first half. Memphis missed all four of its 3s in the first half.

Mayo struggled early, missing his first six shots.

After making 10 of his first 12 free throws of the preseason, Howard slumped of late, but made seven of 10 against Memphis to move above 60 percent.

Tony Battie was still out of the lineup because of a broken ring finger. He was hurt two weeks ago in practice, but the Magic are hopeful he'll be ready for their regular-season opener Oct. 29 at home against Atlanta. Battie, who missed all of last season after shoulder surgery, has played in only two preseason games and showed flashes of being a strong backup to Rashard Lewis at power forward.

Memphis (4-3)opens Oct. 29 against Houston against Houston.
