Lakers Playoff Props
January 12, 2013
By CarbonSports
Is the season a lost cause for the Lakers?
The L.A. Lakers have been making news for all the wrong reasons this year and even one of their most loyal fans can’t appear to take it anymore. The legendary Jack Nicholson was caught leaving the Lakers game early last night when it was clear they would lose to Oklahoma City with over half the fourth quarter left. Things haven’t been this dire for the Lakers for a long, long time, and for those bettors out there that believe they know how the Lakers season will end; Carbon Sports has a nice prop bet going right now.
At Carbon Sports you can bet how you think L.A.’s season will finish and the six options range from missing the playoffs to winning it all. At 15-21 straight up right now, it’s not a surprise to see the “miss playoffs” option as the overwhelming favorite, especially knowing how strong the Western Conference is.
L.A. to miss the playoffs is at minus-160 (Bet $160 to win $100) and with them currently sitting in 11th place in the conference; it makes you wonder if they can ever turn this thing around. Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol will be out for some time and there just aren’t that many “cupcakes” across the league for L.A. to beat up on to catch up.
The last time the NBA had a full schedule (2010-11) the 8th seed in the Western Conference was Memphis and they finished with a 46-36 record. That’s 10 games over .500 just to get in, so the Lakers would have to go on quite the tear to even have a chance.
Houston finished 9th that season with a 43-39 record, something that seems more attainable for L.A. The Lakers only have 46 games remaining and to reach the same mark as Houston, they would need to go 28-18 the rest of the way. Heading into Saturday’s action, Portland holds the 8th seed with a 20-16 record, sitting at the magical four games over .500 mark.
It’s not like L.A. is void of talent to turn this thing around though, and with the exception of Miami, Memphis and Oklahoma City, its schedule is really quite soft over the next 12 contests. If they can get on a little roll here, heading into the All-Star Break sitting in 8th-10th and only a few games back is definitely not out of the question.
So whether you believe L.A. can salvage this season or not, don’t be afraid to take a shot with this prop bet. If L.A. does end up making the playoffs, chances are they will be the 7th or 8th seed and that means a very tough road ahead to even get through a couple of rounds.
To check out the odds for all the other options on how you think the Lakers season will end, head on over to Carbon Sports.
