 In mid-February, we provided bettors with a Win Total update at the All-Star break. Now that the NBA regular season has concluded, we can tally up the results

At the All-Star break, the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas were the two biggest disappointments. Rough starts and key injuries doomed this pair all season but they definitely showed their veteran experience down the stretch.

The Lakers didn’t come close to their win total of 59 ½ of victories but they went 20-9 after the break and wound up with 45 wins. Expect next year’s win total to be about 10 games less.

Mark Cuban’s Mavericks went 18-12 to finish 44-4, which was just five wins short of their season win total of 45 ½. Dallas did miss the playoffs for the first time in 13 years but future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki wasn’t active for 29 games.

joins this pair as another disappointment and it can also point to injuries as a reason too. Next season, oddsmakers should probably adjust accordingly to center Andrew Bynum, wherever he lands.
Houston and Golden State were the biggest surprises at the break and the pair did enough to cash their win total tickets.

Teams that barely eclipsed their numbers were the Hawks, Bucks, Hornets, Raptors and Jazz. Toronto closed the season with five straight wins to finish 34-48. The Raptors had a win total of 31 ½ victories.

Some clubs that just fell short were the Thunder, Bobcats, Pistons, Trail Blazers and the Wizards. Despite clinching the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, Oklahoma City came up short by one victory and it lost on the last day of the regular season while resting starters. Some might argue that Portland was the toughest ‘over’ loss. The Blazers were 33-36 on Mar. 26 and closed the season with 13 straight losses. Portland’s win total was 35 ½.

While Portland’s beat was rough, bettors taking the ‘under’ in the Boston Celtics or Indiana Pacers have to be frustrated. Due to the Boston Marathon bombings, the Celtics’ home game against the Pacers was canceled in the final week and was not rescheduled because both were already locked into their playoff seeds in the Eastern Conference.

Most betting shops clearly state in their Win Total rules – All teams must play 82 games.

Taking away those refunds, gamblers saw the OVER go 15-13.
