LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) - San Antonio Spurs star Tony Parker scored 28 points Sunday to lead France past Ukraine 77-71 and into the second round of the European basketball championship.
Finland advanced earlier in the day, eliminating Russia with an 86-83 win in double overtime. Russia was the bronze medalist at the London Olympics last year and at the Europeans two years ago. The top three teams from each group advance.
Finland trailed in both regulation and the first overtime before pulling out the win.
Ukraine stayed with France until Parker took over in the fourth quarter. The Spurs guard connected on two jumpers and then sank a 3-pointer to help the French pull away. Parker scored 13 of his team's last 17 points.
In Celje, Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Marc Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies scored 15 points apiece to lead defending champion Spain to an 89-53 victory over winless Poland.
Five players scored in double figures for Spain, which led 49-13 at halftime and by as many as 48 points before slowing down in the second half.
In Jesenice, Serbia beat Latvia 80-71 to advance, Italy stayed perfect after four games with an 81-72 victory over previously unbeaten Greece, and Bosnia-Herzegovina beat Macedonia 62-54.
Britain eliminated Germany with an 81-73 victory in Ljubljana.
In Koper, Hanno Mottola sank a 3-pointer for Finland with 3 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Mottola put in a tip-in and Gerald Lee's lay-up tied the game at the end of the first overtime.
Sergey Monya's 3-pointer made it 82-82 in the second overtime before Lee dunked and made one of two free throws to give Finland a three-point lead. Monya then missed one free throw and Sasu Salin made on for Finland. Russia called a timeout with 6 seconds remaining, but Monya came out to miss a 3-point attempt and Finland had the win.
The Russians were without Andrei Kirilenko and several other stars.
