LiAngelo Ball Will Not Get Drafted!
The day after LiAngelo Ball announced that he would enter the 2018 NBA Draft, he dropped 72 points in a Lithuania match between two teams I’m not even bothering to look up. Of course, this all comes back to the manifest destiny that Lavar Ball proclaimed, emphatically stating that all three of his sons will play for the Lakers. He’ll be lucky if any of his sons are playing for the Lakers after this year.
LeBron James looms large over the free agency period we’re all eagerly anticipating this season, and Lavar has been curiously quiet in recent weeks which has generated rumors that he’s been muffled by the Lakers in order to make the franchise a more attractive destination for the best player of this generation. It’s a great explanation for Lavar’s relative silence in recent weeks. But his struggling shoe sales might also be a reason. He’s got a lot of balls to juggle right now.
Not helping the franchise is the fact that Lonzo Ball himself has insisted that he won’t re-sign with the team in 2021 if his brothers aren’t signed. Yes, he said this back in February. It’s pretty safe to say that Lonzo definitely belongs in the NBA because he can meet the standard, but it’s impossible to suggest that he’s a franchise player with the gravitas to throw those lofty grenades around.
Especially with a guy like Magic in the room. Especially with a guy like LeBron potentially coming to town. Especially when your brothers aren’t going to be drafted!
BetOnline.ag has thrown up odds on the 2018 Draft, and probably the easiest money you could make is to bet against LiAngelo being drafted. The oddsmakers have penciled it in as a virtual lock that the middle Ball brother will be searching for a summer league contract this year.
Will LiAngelo Ball Be Drafted? - per BetOnline.ag
Yes +600 (Bet $100 to win $600)
No -1500 (Bet $100 to win $6.67)
LiAngelo declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft was a no-brainer given that he shoplifted his way to a pro career in Lithuania, and it’s nothing against the country, it’s just that we don’t look to it as a basketball prospect factory.
Let’s keep in mind that LiAngelo wasn’t even meant to start for UCLA when he was in school. There is an extremely short list of freshman benchers that have transitioned to the NBA draft and been selected. Most have to be extremely rare cases of talent buried on great teams (i.e. the sixth man at Kentucky for example).
It’s not out of the question that LiAngelo will be invited to the Lakers’ summer league once that whole mess gets rolling, but it’s long been suggested that he doesn’t have a place in the league. His recent 72-point explosion might be his career highlight, because it doesn’t look like he’s going to get a job in the NBA.
The middle Ball brother has a better chance of being the VP of Marketing for Big Baller Brand than he does of playing in the league.
