Today we like the Seattle Supersonics (-10.5) over the New Orleans Hornets, 10:35 pm ET on Friday night
Sometimes you have to put aside all the systems, trends and analysis you normally do and focus on what you see when watching a game. Like every night we watch every game possible in the NBA, whatever games we don't get to see we have taped then review the next day. After watching the Nuggets and Hornets play the other night it was more than obvious the Hornets have called it a season.
Tell tale signs were the lack of effort on the defensive end of the floor, guys just standing around on the offensive end of the floor, no desire what-so-ever to chase down a loose ball and finally the fact that they allowed Denver to score a ton of points in transition on un-contested lay-ups. There were several occasions when the Hornets didn't make it past half court in an effort to stop Denver on a fast break. Playing at their usual frenetic pace, the Nuggets repeatedly beat the Hornets down the court for lay-ups and quick shots. Even when things slowed down, Denver was still on target, hitting 14 of 19 shots in the first quarter and shooting 66 percent in the half.
Denver ended up scoring 62 points in the paint and 24 points off fast breaks. When the Hornets don't show up tonight they're going to get buried by a Seattle team DESPERATE for a win. Seattle has lost 6 straight but can still clinch the division with a win tonight. The Sonics have been hit hard by injuries but they got All-Star forward Rashard Lewis back last game along with Antonio Daniels.
Tonight they expect to have power forward Danny Fortson back also which gives them the interior defender and rebounder they've lacked recently. Earlier this year (Feb 8th) the Sonics were favored by 14 at home against the Hornets and won by 17. They also went to New Orleans and won by 18, favored by 6.
We are getting good line value here with Seattle and they finally get a big win at home over a Hornets team that has no interest in being here. New Orleans has lost 5 straight games, 4 of which were by 11 or more points and Seattle has covered 4 of the last 5 in this series. Don't let the number scare you off here.
Best of luck from ASA, Inc.
