A ccording to an ESPN.com report, Elton Brand has told the Clippers that he will accept a lucrative contract to join the Philadelphia 76ers, who beat out L.A. and Golden State for the All-Star power forward.
With Brand out of the picture and Baron Davis headed to the Clippers, the Warriors are set to sign Corey Maggette. However, they are also losing Mickael Pietrus, who has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Orlando Magic.
Now that Brand has left L.A., the Clippers have made Josh Smith their prime target. If the Clippers sign the restricted free agent to an offer sheet, the Atlanta Hawks will have seven days to match the contract. The Hawks have consistently indicated that they will match any offer for Smith and/or Josh Childress. Brian Edwards can be reached at briane@vegasinsider.com.
