PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Roderick Green DE, Free Agent 02/09/10, Time: 3:40 pm
News: Aaron Wilson of National Football Post reports Green is trying out for the Seahawks on Tuesday.
 Analysis:

Green has 12 sacks in five NFL seasons and played for the California Redwoods of the UFL this past season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Forte RB, Chicago Bears 02/09/10, Time: 3:28 pm
News: Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago.com reports the Bears want to add a running back with "a little juice" to pair with Forte next season.
 Analysis:

Forte had a very disappointing 2009 season, as he battled hamstring and knee injuries and the Bears' offensive line played very poorly. Forte does lack big-play ability though, and the Bears may look for an upgrade over current backups Kevin Jones and Kahlil Bell. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Scott Fujita LB, New Orleans Saints 02/09/10, Time: 12:43 pm
News: Sports Illustrated's Don Banks reports the Saints will likely try to retain Fujita, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.
 Analysis:

Fujita will turn 31 before next season, but was a key veteran for the Saints' defense this past season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Campbell QB, Washington Redskins 02/09/10, Time: 12:39 pm
News: Jason Reid of the Washington Post reports that Reskins' head coach Mike Shanahan is "eager to draft and develop a young quarterback."
 Analysis:

Mock drafts have attached Oklahoma's Sam Bradford or Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen to the Redskins at #4 overall in April. In any case, Shanahan clearly doesn't think Campbell is a long-term solution under center. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Urlacher LB, Chicago Bears 02/09/10, Time: 12:36 pm
News: The Chicago Tribune reports that Urlacher (right wrist) is expected to be ready when the Bears' offseason program begins.
 Analysis:

Urlacher will be welcomed back with open arms, as the Bears' defense struggled without him last season after he was injured in Week 1. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jamar Williams LB, Chicago Bears 02/09/10, Time: 12:32 pm
News: Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports the Bears may let Williams, who is scheduled to become a free agent, move on.
 Analysis:

Williams was pressed into significant duty when injuries hit the Bears' linebacking corp in 2009, but he is likely to be expendable if everyone is healthy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Harry Douglas WR, Atlanta Falcons 02/09/10, Time: 12:29 pm
News: According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Falcons' head coach Mike Smith said Douglas (torn ACL-left knee) is close to getting back on the field.
 Analysis:

Douglas still has a long way to go in his rehab from his ACL tear last August, and his status for training camp is still up in the air. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ryan Grant RB, Green Bay Packers 02/09/10, Time: 10:51 am
News: The Green Bay Press Gazette reports Grant has escalators in his contract that the Packers may not want to pay in 2011.
 Analysis:

Grant reportedly has a roster bonus based on cumulative yardage that could add to his base salary. If he rushes for 1,253 yards in 2010, he is line, he would get $5 million in base salary plus $4 million in roster bonuses. The team may try to work out a long-term deal with Grant, or they could ask him to take a pay cut before 2011. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matthew Stafford QB, Detroit Lions 02/09/10, Time: 10:46 am
News: Detroit Lions.com reports Stafford (right knee/left shoulder) is hoping to be cleared for full participation in offseason conditioning, which begins on March 15.
 Analysis:

Stafford did not require surgery on his shoulder, and as long as team doctors give the ok he should be ready for any and all offseason work. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Adewale Ogunleye DE, Chicago Bears 02/09/10, Time: 10:42 am
News: The Chicago Tribune reports the Bears could begin to negotiate with Ogunleye, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, at some point.
 Analysis:

Ogunleye had 8.5 sacks in 14 games in 2009 before fracturing his left fibula. He may get some attention on the open market, but since he will turn 33 in August teams could be cautious. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: A.J. Hawk LB, Green Bay Packers 02/09/10, Time: 10:38 am
News: The Green Bay Press Gazette reports the Packers will not ask Hawk to take a pay cut, as per his agent.
 Analysis:

Hawk is scheduled to make $4.6 million next season, and will likely be sharing time with Brandon Chillar. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Julius Peppers DE, Carolina Panthers 02/09/10, Time: 10:35 am
News: Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald reports "it's becoming more and more clear" that Peppers will not be returning to the Panthers next season.
 Analysis:

Carolina could use the franchise tag on Peppers with the intention of trading him, or just let him leave as a free agent and get nothing in return. Some potential landing spots for him are Atlanta, New England and Philadelphia. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Devin Hester WR, Chicago Bears 02/09/10, Time: 10:30 am
News: Pro Football Talk.com reports Bears' offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he envisions Hester moving to the slot and playing reduced offensive snaps.
 Analysis:

Mart reportedly sees Hester becoming full-time return man again, which is something Hester himself had stated a desire to do. In any case, Hester's fantasy value for next season seems to be going down. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Greg Olsen TE, Chicago Bears 02/09/10, Time: 10:25 am
News: Pro Football Talk.com reports Bears' offensive coordinator Mike Martz said Olsen's first responsibility will be blocking.
 Analysis:

Olsen is an excellent receiver, but this reflects Martz's attitude about tight ends. No TE in a Martz offense has caught over 38 passes in a season, which is a bad sign for Olsen's fantasy prospects heading into next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Derek Anderson QB, Cleveland Browns 02/09/10, Time: 8:59 am
News: The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Anderson is due a $2 million offseason roster bonus in March.
 Analysis:

The Browns will likely attempt to trade Anderson but if they cannot find a deal, he could simply be released. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Reggie Hayward DE, Free Agent 02/09/10, Time: 8:57 am
News: NFL.com reports that Hayward is expected to continue playing next season.
 Analysis:

Hayward missed the entire 2009 season with a fractured shin. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donte Stallworth WR, Free Agent 02/09/10, Time: 8:56 am
News: NFL.com reports that the Browns have officially released Stallworth on Monday.
 Analysis:

Stallworth was suspended all of last season and will have to hope a team gives him a shot this season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kenny Phillips DB, N.Y. Giants Giants 02/08/10, Time: 12:30 am
News: The Newark Star Ledger reports Phillips (left knee) said he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from microfracture surgery in September.
 Analysis:

Phillips will reportedly begin jogging on land at the end of March, which will be six months after the operation. His status for offseason work and training camp is up in the air. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Al Harris DB, Green Bay Packers 02/08/10, Time: 11:18 pm
News: Greb Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel speculates that the Packers may ask Harris to push back his roster bonus, which is due in March.
 Analysis:

Harris suffered a torn left ACL in November, and at age 35 the Packers may want to see how his recovery is going before giving him the roster bonus. His status for the start of training camp is definitely up in the air. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donovan McNabb QB, Philadelphia Eagles 02/08/10, Time: 11:12 pm
News: ESPN's Sal Palantonio reports the Bills, Browns and Broncos have shown in McNabb's availability. (Philly.com)
 Analysis:

Buffalo and Cleveland have an obvious need at QB, but this report may show the lack of faith Denver has in incumbent Kyle Orton. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Nate Clements DB, San Francisco 49ers 02/08/10, Time: 11:09 pm
News: Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports there is "no question" Clements will be back with the 49ers next season.
 Analysis:

Clements was benched and then injured in 2009, and is due to make $6 million in base salary next season. It would not be a surprise if the 49ers brought in some competition for him this offseason, perhaps via April's draft. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Westbrook RB, Philadelphia Eagles 02/08/10, Time: 11:06 pm
News: Philly.com reports Westbrook (concussion) said he was not completely recoverd from his October concussion when he returned to action three weeks later.
 Analysis:

Westbrook reportedly did not confirm or deny the reports he is considering retirement, as he has also battled knee issues. He is due to make $7.25 million next season, so his future with the Eagles may be up in the air even if he does not choose to retire. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mark Brunell QB, New Orleans Saints 02/08/10, Time: 11:02 pm
News: The Florida Times Union reports Brunell said he has not begun to contemplate retirement yet.
 Analysis:

Brunell got his first Super Bowl ring as Drew Brees' backup this season, and at age 39 his days as a starter are long over. He is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brett Favre QB, Minnesota Vikings 02/08/10, Time: 1:27 pm
News: Charlie Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the Vikings need Favre to make a decision on his future by March 5.
 Analysis:

Walters is right, but Favre is unlikely to do it. March 5 is when the NFL trading period starts, and the Vikings may make a play for Donovan McNabb if they need to. But don't expect Favre to make a decision until summer. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kevin Kolb QB, Philadelphia Eagles 02/08/10, Time: 12:12 pm
News: Les Bowen of Philly.om reports that one of the teams that will inquire about Kolb's availability is the Browns.
 Analysis:

Former Eagles' GM Tom Heckert is now in Cleveland, so this isn't too big a surprise. Kolb is entering the final year of his contract, and could attract some trade interest this offseason. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: LeSean McCoy RB, Philadelphia Eagles 02/08/10, Time: 11:14 am
News: Sports Illustrated's Peter King predicts McCoy will be the "breakout" Eagle of 2010.
 Analysis:

With Brian Westbrook's status for next season potentially up in the air, McCoy could become the Eagles' primary ballcarrier and have nice fantasy value. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Garrett Hartley K, New Orleans Saints 02/08/10, Time: 11:11 am
News: Hartley became the first kicker to make three field goals of 40 or more yards in a Super Bowl.
 Analysis:

Hartley is likely to be among the first kickers off the board in fantasy drafts next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Darren Sharper DB, New Orleans Saints 02/08/10, Time: 10:58 am
News: Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun Times reports, via Twitter, that Sharper was essentially non-committal when asked about his future plans.
 Analysis:

Sharper is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, but there is almost certain to be mutual interest in him returning to the Saints next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Stover K, Baltimore Ravens 02/08/10, Time: 8:54 am
News: Stover hit one of two field goal attempts and added two extra points on Sunday in the Super Bowl.
 Analysis:

Stover kicked well for the Colts' this season, despite missing a 51-yard field goal. It is unclear if Stover will be back with the Colts' next season at age 42. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwight Freeney DE, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:52 am
News: Freeney was active for the Super Bowl loss to the Saints on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Freeney finished with only one tackle but recorded a sack. He started off well but was clearly less effective as the game moved along. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gary Brackett LB, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:51 am
News: Brackett led the way for the Colts' defense with 12 solo tackles against the Saints.
 Analysis:

Brackett is a solid option in IDP leagues. He had 99 tackles and one interception during the regular season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Reggie Wayne WR, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:49 am
News: Wayne caught five passes for 46 yards on Sunday in the Super Bowl against the Saints.
 Analysis:

Wayne had a quiet playoffs for his standards as teams really focused on shutting him down. He had 16 receptions and only one touchdown. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Pierre Garcon WR, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:48 am
News: Garcon caught five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown against the Saints in the Super Bowl.
 Analysis:

Garcon had a coming out party in the playoffs with 20 receptions in three games. His stock is on the rise heading into next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Austin Collie WR, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:47 am
News: Collie caught six passes for 66 yards in the Super Bowl against the Saints on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Collie had a great playoffs with 17 receptions for 241 yards and two touchdowns. He should be high on WR draft boards next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dallas Clark TE, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:45 am
News: Clark caught seven passes for 86 yards on Sunday against the Saints in the Super Bowl.
 Analysis:

Clark led all Colts' with the seven receptions as he continued to be Peyton Manning's go to target. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mike Hart RB, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:44 am
News: Hart rushed two times for four yards on Sunday in the Super Bowl against the Saints.
 Analysis:

Hart is third on the depth chart and has little fantasy value heading into next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donald Brown RB, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:43 am
News: Brown rushed four times for 18 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards on Sunday against the Saints.
 Analysis:

Brown saw limited action in the playoffs and has limited fantasy value as long as Joseph Addai is healthy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Joseph Addai RB, Indianapolis Colts 02/08/10, Time: 8:42 am
News: Addai rushed 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Saints in the Super Bowl. He also caught seven passes for 58 yards.
 Analysis:

Addai looked explosive and had one of his best games of the season. If he can carry this over into next season and stay healthy, he should be a top fantasy RB next year. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Nathan Vasher DB, Chicago Bears 02/07/10, Time: 11:39 pm
News: Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears' coaching staff lost confidence in Vasher this season.
 Analysis:

Vasher is due $2.95 million next season, and it's possible he will not be back with the Bears. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Michael Vick QB, Philadelphia Eagles 02/07/10, Time: 11:36 pm
News: Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, via Twitter, that "multiple" teams have contacted the Eagles about trade possibilities involving their quarterbacks.
 Analysis:

Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb are each entering the final year of their ocntracts, but Vick seems to be the most likely to be moved. The Rams and Bills could be the front runners to trade for or sign Vick. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marques Colston WR, New Orleans Saints 02/07/10, Time: 11:31 pm
News: Colston had seven receptions for 83 yards in New Orleans' win over Indianapolis in Super Bowl XLIV.
 Analysis:

Colston remains a favorite target for Drew Brees, and that makes him a top tier fantasy WR for 2010. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Reggie Bush RB, New Orleans Saints 02/07/10, Time: 11:29 pm
News: Bush had 63 offensive yards on nine touches in the Saints' 31-17 win over the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
 Analysis:

Bush is clearly a dynamic player when he gets his hands on the ball, but he is due to make $8 million next season. That leaves the Saints to decide if that's too much to pay someone who is essentially a role player. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Pierre Thomas RB, New Orleans Saints 02/07/10, Time: 11:26 pm
News: Thomas had 85 total yards on 15 touches in New Orleans' win over Indianapolis in Super Bowl XLIV.
 Analysis:

Thomas is the most complete RB on the Saints' roster and is a solid fantasy option heading into next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Walter Jones T, Seattle Seahawks 02/07/10, Time: 11:23 pm
News: Via his own Twitter feed, Jones announced he is retiring from football.
 Analysis:

It is unknown if this is real or not, so we'll wait to hear something more official sometime in the near future. Jones has battled back and knee issues in recent years and in fact missed all of the 2009 season. At age 36 he may call it a career after 13 NFL seasons. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Drew Brees QB, New Orleans Saints 02/07/10, Time: 11:19 pm
News: Brees went 32-for-39 for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints 31-17 win over the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV on his way to being named Super Bowl MVP.
 Analysis:

Brees tied a Super Bowl-record for completions as he shook off a slow start to lead the Saints to the franchise's first Super Bowl win. He will again be one of the elite fantasy quarterbacks next season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwight Freeney DE, Indianapolis Colts 02/07/10, Time: 10:49 am
News: Freeney is expected to play in the Super Bowl, barring any setbacks during pregame warm-ups.
 Analysis:

Freeney missed practice on Saturday and will likely suit up for the game. However, it is certainly unclear how his ankle will hold up and how effective he will be. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: William Thomas T, Jacksonville Jaguars 02/07/10, Time: 10:48 am
News: According to NFL.com, the Jaguars will release Thomas at some point next week.
