PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/20/08, Time: 5:49 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Allen did not practice on Thursday due to an injured right shoulder.
 Analysis:

Allen is considering questionable in Week 12 against Jacksonville. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/18/08, Time: 8:14 am
 Status:
Out
News: Jackson has been ruled out of the Rams' Week 12 matchup with Chicago because of the same thigh strain that has limited him for a while.
 Analysis:

The bright side here is that the decision was made early in the week and that further examination has confirmed that it's just a strain. It would be nice if fantasy owners could get him back for the final two weeks of the fantasy schedule, when the Rams get Seattle and San Francisco. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chester Taylor RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 4:30 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: After a week in the sun against the Packers last week, Taylor slunk back under than unproductive rock where he has been most of the season. He had 25 yards from scrimmage against Tampa and lost a fumble.
 Analysis:

Woe is he who started Taylor this week thinking that he had some productivity ahead of him. As the lesser back in a timeshare, Taylor is always a risky play. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Adrian Peterson RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 4:28 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Although Peterson failed to run his streak of 100-yard games to five, he did get 85 yards against a tough Buc defense.
 Analysis:

Peterson was also held out of the endzone for the first time in four weeks. The Vikings play the Jaguars and Bears in the next two weeks, so running room may be tough to find. Play Peterson anyway. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gus Frerotte QB, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 4:26 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Frerotte threw for just 139 yards in the Vikings loss to Tampa Bay. On the plus side, he threw a TD and was not intercepted for the first time in five weeks.
 Analysis:

Frerotte isn't really doing the Vikings any favors. Should they fall out of the playoff race, they may give Tavaris Jackson another shot. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 11:09 am
News: Fox's Jay Glazer reports that Jared Allen could face a suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Aaron Rodgers last week. That doesn't affect him at all for this week, but we'll see what happens this week. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Madieu Williams DB, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 11:03 am
News: Despite being listed as doubtful, Madieu Williams is active and playing today for the Vikings. The shoulder makes him a risky IDP option still, though. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 11:02 am
News: As expected, Jared Allen is active and will start today. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/16/08, Time: 9:09 am
News: Steven Jackson has officially been ruled out by the Rams, leaving the starting job to Antonio Pittman. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Madieu Williams DB, Minnesota Vikings 11/16/08, Time: 8:29 am
News: Madieu Williams will almost definitely miss today's game at Tampa. That takes away a solid IDP option and hurts the Vikings pass defense. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/15/08, Time: 12:49 pm
 Status:
Out
News: As expected, Jackson has been ruled out for this week with his injured thigh.
 Analysis:

At least we didn't have to wait until Sunday morning to find out this time. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/14/08, Time: 1:30 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Jackson missed practice Thursday after aggravating his strained thigh muscle in practice on Wednesday. He is not expected to play this week.
 Analysis:

Antonio Pittman will likely start in his place. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/13/08, Time: 7:25 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Jackson was a limited practice participant on Wednesday, sharing first-team carries with Antonio Pittman. Coach Jim Haslett reportedly said that his top back will have to complete a full practice before getting the starting nod on Sunday.
 Analysis:

This is much better news than Jackson owners have seen over the past few weeks. He's a fantasy starter if he goes against the Niners. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donnie Avery WR, St. Louis Rams 11/12/08, Time: 12:09 pm
News: Avery has shown signs of brilliance in the very volitile St. Louis offesne. He was very quiet in Week 10.
 Analysis:

Any Ram offensive player is a risky play for the rest of the season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Torry Holt WR, St. Louis Rams 11/12/08, Time: 12:07 pm
News: Big Play Torry Holt has been more like No Play Torry Holt so far this season. He managed only one catch for five yards in Week 10.
 Analysis:

Holt was dropped to a low-end No. 2 receiver at best. Keep him on your bench in any fantasy format. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marc Bulger QB, St. Louis Rams 11/12/08, Time: 12:05 pm
News: It would appear the Bulger will start again this week against San Francisco. Bulger was yanked after a completely ineffective Week 10.
 Analysis:

Bulger must stay on your bench. The St. Louis offense has been a mess no matter who the head coach or the starting quarterback has been. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Bernard Berrian WR, Minnesota Vikings 11/11/08, Time: 1:54 pm
News: Berrian was completely shut out in Week 10 against a very aggressive Green Bay defense. He had caught a touchdown pass in the four previous games.
 Analysis:

Berrian will find the sledding no easier against Tampa Bay. The Tampa Cover 2 defense does allow for more short passes so Berrian is better in PPR leagues. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gus Frerotte QB, Minnesota Vikings 11/11/08, Time: 1:52 pm
News: Frerotte looked like a rookie at times in Week 10 against Green Bay. He managed only 151 yards passing and threw three interceptions.
 Analysis:

Look for Frerotte to continue to struggle this week against Tampa. They will try to stop the running game so Frerotte should find a few passing yards. Leave him on your bench this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Adrian Peterson RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/11/08, Time: 1:50 pm
News: Peterson had 192 yards rushing and 33 yards receiving in Week 10. He faces a tough task in Week 11 against Tampa Bay.
 Analysis:

Peterson is the type of player that transcends match-ups. There is no other advice than to start him every game. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Josh Brown K, St. Louis Rams 11/09/08, Time: 8:01 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Brown had the highlight of the game for the Rams. He kicked a third quarter field goal to get St. Louis within 37 points of the Jets.
 Analysis:

Brown was a chief recipient of the few games that the Rams started to play better. He scored 32 points in three weeks before scoring four points of the last two games. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Antonio Pittman RB, St. Louis Rams 11/09/08, Time: 7:58 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Pittman made the start for the injured Steven Jackson against the Jets and was similarly woeful as the rest of the team. He ran for 28 yards on 13 carries.
 Analysis:

The former Buckeye burst on the scene with 83 yards two weeks ago against the Patriots. Since then, he has 40 yards in 23 carries over two games. He's not worth starting or owning. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Green QB, St. Louis Rams 11/09/08, Time: 7:56 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Green came in during the second half to relief an ineffective Marc Bulger. Green was similarly ineffective against the Jets. He threw for 70 yards and an interception.
 Analysis:

It's always good to give the young players a chan... What's that? Green's 38 years old? Oh, well - the poor Rams - that's all I can say. Perhaps Ram fans can put on their tapes of Super Bowl 34 to relieve their season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marc Bulger QB, St. Louis Rams 11/09/08, Time: 7:53 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Bulger threw for just 65 yards and was intercepted once against the Jets.
 Analysis:

It wasn't the Rams best game and Bulger was pretty bad too. He had that one spark two weeks ago against the Patriots with 304 yards, but he isn't worth owning anymore. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Bernard Berrian WR, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 7:32 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Berrian got shut out against the Packers. He had no catches and did not factor in the offense.
 Analysis:

The Viking passing attack was off all afternoon and the team was saved by Adrian Peterson. Berrian will return to productivity soon but he makes for a lower echelon WR play. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chester Taylor RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 7:30 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Taylor was a factor out of the Viking backfield with 29 yards rushing and 84 yards receiving plus a TD.
 Analysis:

Taylor is like the right-handed hitter in a platoon. He gets the minority of the action but he is a factor in the Viking offense. Play him at your risk, but he can score a TD from time to time. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Adrian Peterson RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 7:28 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Peterson had a great game against the Packers. He rumbled for 190 yards and scored the game-winning TD.
 Analysis:

After being seen as the savior of fantasy football prior to the season, some owners were worried after Peterson went for just 32 yards against the Saints. He has reeled off four consecutive 100+ yard games and has four TD's in the last three. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gus Frerotte QB, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 7:26 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Frerotte had a very uneven day against the Packers. He did score twice, but threw for just 151 yards and was picked off three times.
 Analysis:

A caretaker QB should not get picked off more than once. Frerotte now has eight interceptions in the last three weeks. He hasn't topped 200 yards in either of his last two games. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/09/08, Time: 11:28 am
News: As expected, Steven Jackson is inactive today. Antonio Pittman, however, is active and will likely see a few carries. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 11:24 am
News: DE Jared Allen is officially active today. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 9:13 am
News: As expected, Jared Allen's playing status for today has taken another turn. NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that although Allen's shoulder is hurt enough to where he would miss most games, the Vikings' right end will give it a go today because of the division matchup with the Packers. Further motivating Allen is the fact that he played poorly in the first meeting with Gree Bay, a performance he dubbed one of the worst of his football career. Normally it wouldn't be a good idea to start a player with such iffy health status, but Allen's production and value comes directly from his highly motivated style. Take a chance on him today. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/09/08, Time: 8:49 am
News: Jared Allen?s injured shoulder has presented a tricky situation all week. It appeared early on that he would likely give it a go today, but he entered the weekend listed as ?doubtful.? We?ll watch the Sunday morning reports to see if Allen will take the field, but we can only assume that he?ll miss today?s contest. Brian Robison would see more time in his absence. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Kenneth Darby RB, St. Louis Rams 11/09/08, Time: 7:00 am
News: Kenneth Darby will be the starter in the backfield today when the Rams take on the Jets. He is no kind of fantasy option against one of the league's best run defenses. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/08/08, Time: 12:19 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Jackson missed practice all week with the thigh injury that his limited him for several weeks. He is not expected to play on Sunday.
 Analysis:

The "doubtful" listing shows that the team isn't even retaining the public optimism it carried into the past two weeks. Fantasy owners should be thankful that the guesswork has been taken out of lineup setting in this case. Kenneth Darby is expected to start in his place, though an fantasy owner who has to use him is in dire straits. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/08/08, Time: 12:02 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Although Allen has been able to participate in practice on a limited basis, the team has him listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup with the Packers.
 Analysis:

It's tough to completely trust the team's reports, based on observations by others that Allen didn't appear to be too restricted in his movements this week. IDP owners should figure that he'll be unavailable, though. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Antonio Pittman RB, St. Louis Rams 11/06/08, Time: 12:21 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Pittman is expected to miss this week's game at the Jets after injuring his hamstring on Sunday.
 Analysis:

That would mean that if Steven Jackson is remains unable to handle the job, Kenneth Darby would be the Rams' primary back in Week 10. No St. Louis runner is a good fantasy choice against a tough Jets run defense. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jared Allen DE, Minnesota Vikings 11/06/08, Time: 11:23 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Sporting News Today reports that Allen says he has a third-degree shoulder sprain, which is the most severe. He also said the team has him listed as not playing, though the reporter noted that Allen was moving his arm fine and wondered whether it was a bit of a ruse to trick the Packers this week.
 Analysis:

Let's hope we can find out the truth soon enough to start Allen if he'll be available or bench him if he's inactive. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gus Frerotte QB, Minnesota Vikings 11/05/08, Time: 3:40 pm
News: Frerotte has been a decent fantasy producer since getting the starting nod in Minnesota. He faces a stout Packer defense this week in a tough NFC North contest.
 Analysis:

Because the game is in Minnesota, Frerotte might not be a bad play this week. He has been finding Bernard Berrian for long passes in the past few weeks. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chester Taylor RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/05/08, Time: 3:38 pm
News: Taylor has been involved in a lot of the Minnesota offense. Conventional wisdom says play Adrian Peterson but remember that Taylor is a very capable replacement and a very reliable fantasy point producer.
 Analysis:

Taylor gets a lot of points on pass receptions. He has much higher status in PPR leagues. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Bernard Berrian WR, Minnesota Vikings 11/05/08, Time: 3:36 pm
News: Berrian only caught two balls in Week 9 but they totaled 104 yards. He will face a tough task this week with Al Harris and Charles Woodson from Green Bay jamming him at the line of scrimmage.
 Analysis:

Berrian is on a bit of a run. If you play match-ups you will want to sit him. If you play hot receivers you will want to play him. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Visanthe Shiancoe TE, Minnesota Vikings 11/02/08, Time: 6:57 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Shiancoe caught another TD against the Texans. It was his fourth of the season.
 Analysis:

While Shiancoe does not rate as a major piece of the Vikings offense, he makes the most out of his opportunities. He has all of his TD's in the last six games and makes for an above average bye week or injury replacement. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Bernard Berrian WR, Minnesota Vikings 11/02/08, Time: 6:55 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Berrian caught just two balls against the Texans, but both were for 40+ yards and one was for a TD.
 Analysis:

Berrian has scored a TD in his last four games and clearly is simpatico with Gus Frerotte. Who woulda thunkit? He has 78 or more yards in each of his last six games and makes for a nice third receiver. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Adrian Peterson RB, Minnesota Vikings 11/02/08, Time: 6:53 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Peterson had his third straight 100+ yard game. He also scored his sixth TD of the season.
 Analysis:

Peterson had a quiet week against the Saints three weeks ago, but he has busted out since then. He is no longer in an even platoon with Chester Taylor and looks to add to his legend in the second half of the season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gus Frerotte QB, Minnesota Vikings 11/02/08, Time: 6:52 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Frerotte did just enough to win the game and the hearts of fantasy owners. He threw three TD's but had just 182 yards and another interception.
 Analysis:

The three TD's represented a season high, but Frerotte is not someone you want to trust with your top spot of the lineup. His seven interception to five TD ratio should tell you all you need to know. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donnie Avery WR, St. Louis Rams 11/02/08, Time: 6:49 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Avery's recent run of success came to a screeching halt against the Cardinals. He had just three catches for 26 yards.
 Analysis:

Avery is clearly a player on the rise, so don't let his game against the Cardinals get you down. He has speed to burn and the Rams will continue to use him. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Torry Holt WR, St. Louis Rams 11/02/08, Time: 6:48 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Holt had his best game since Week 2 with six catches for 58 yards and a TD.
 Analysis:

OK, so the TD came in garbage time - fantasy owners who were still loyal to the longtime producer won't complain. Will there be more TD's in the future for Holt or was just this a blip on the way down? (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steven Jackson RB, St. Louis Rams 11/02/08, Time: 6:44 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: While Jackson did make the start against the Cardinals, he ran for just 17 yards on seven carries and left early because of his thigh injury.
 Analysis:

Jackson left his game on the field against Dallas. He was a DNP against the Patriots last week and was very limited this week. Watch his status during the week to see if he can play against the Jets. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marc Bulger QB, St. Louis Rams 11/02/08, Time: 6:42 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Bulger had a meh day against the Cardinals. He did throw for two TD's and lead the Rams with 32 yards rushing, but had two interceptions and threw for just 186 yards.
 Analysis:

He also lost a fumble and it looks like his 304-yard day against the Patriots was the exception rather than the rule. He has some decent match ups - Jets and 49ers - coming up, but only use him if your starter is on the bye. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Sidney Rice WR, Minnesota Vikings 11/02/08, Time: 11:37 am
News: Sidney Rice is active for the Vikings today and reportedly will start. He has missed three games with injury this season. It's possible that he will take some looks away from Bobby Wade, but he Rice has just three catches despite being available for more than half of Minnesota's games so far. Wade is a much stronger option. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Leonard Little DE, St. Louis Rams 11/02/08, Time: 9:47 am
News: Leonard Little is still listed as questionable with a bad hamstring, but he gained practice reps throughout the week and seems likely to go. If he does, he's a strong IDP option against Arizona. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Bobby Wade WR, Minnesota Vikings 11/02/08, Time: 9:01 am
News: Don't overlook Bobby Wade today against the Texans. Wade has caught 24 passes over the past four weeks and faces a weak Texans backfield that figures to be focused on Bernard Berrian. (SportsBuff.com)
