PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 10/06/08, Time: 2:00 pm
News: Edwards suffered a concussion in Sunday?s loss to Arizona. He is not expected to practice this week.
 Analysis:

Thankfully for Edwards owners he should be ready to go following the week 6 bye. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jon Kitna QB, Detroit Lions 10/06/08, Time: 9:17 am
News: The team said that it switched to Dan Orlovsky at quarterback because Kitna suffered back spasms at halftime.
 Analysis:

Of course, the Lions offense has gone nowhere so far, so coaches would be justified in trying something different no matter the reason. Orlovsky also got hurt late in the game, so we'll have to see who lines up behind center in Week 6. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 10/06/08, Time: 9:05 am
News: Edwards left Sunday's loss to Arizona during the Bills' first series with a concussion.
 Analysis:

Fortunately, the team's bye is coming up next week, so it's possible that Edwards won't miss anymore game action. We'll keep tabs on him for Week 7. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dan Orlovsky QB, Detroit Lions 10/05/08, Time: 3:47 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Orlovsky got his first significant playing time on Sunday. He went 13-for-23 for 97 yards, but had a interception returned for a TD by Charles Tillman.
 Analysis:

The Lions do have excellent receivers, so maybe Orlovsky is the one to use that talent. Jon Kitna does not look like he has much left. The Lions are horrible, so they could take a shot with their young QB. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jon Kitna QB, Detroit Lions 10/05/08, Time: 3:45 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Kitna had a rough day against the Bears. He hit just eight of his 16 passes and was benched for Dan Orlovsky in the second half.
 Analysis:

Kitna had a nice fantasy week in the first game of the season, but has been poor since. He has barely hit on more than half of his passes and has four interceptions compared to two TD's in the last three games. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jon Kitna QB, Detroit Lions 10/03/08, Time: 12:24 pm
News: Jon Kitna has owned the Bears in the two years he has been the Lions? starting quarterback, throwing for an average of 257 yards with five touchdowns. The aging Kitna is coming off the bye week and should be well rested. He faces a Chicago defense that could be missing a few starters.
 Analysis:

Perhaps the firing of Matt Millen will give the Lions organization some new life. Kitna, along with wide receivers Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams, need a big offensive game to have any hope of gaining momentum, and staying competitive in the NFC North. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Lee Evans WR, Buffalo Bills 10/01/08, Time: 2:02 pm
News: Evans is the most consistent reciever on the most consistent offense in the NFL and should be considered a top fantasy option. Evans has 65 yards or better in every game so far.
 Analysis:

Brett Favre lit the Cardinals up for 6 TD's last week and while Trent Edwards is no Brett Favre, he will complete alot of passes in Arizona this week. Look for 5-9 of those passes to go to Evans. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Rudi Johnson RB, Detroit Lions 09/30/08, Time: 1:39 pm
News: Rudi Johnson will get his 1st start as a Lion in week 5 as Detroit hosts the Bears. Johnson has seen limited action so far since arriving from the Bengals.
 Analysis:

Rookie Kevin Smith was very outspoken about his unwillingness to give up his starting position to Johnson. Smith's carries, as well as his standing among the coaching staff, have taken a pretty severe hit. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Corey McIntyre RB, Buffalo Bills 09/30/08, Time: 12:22 pm
News: The Bills signed FB Corey McIntyre and released FB Darian Barnes.
 Analysis:

No word on if this will hurt or help Marshawn Lynch's numbers, however, given Lynch's talent it should not factor too much in his numbers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Terrence McGee DB, Buffalo Bills 09/29/08, Time: 10:12 pm
 Status:
Out
News: McGeen suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday's victory over the Rams and will miss at least the team's Week 5 contest.
 Analysis:

Fortunately, Buffalo's bye comes up in Week 6, so the team's top corner could be out for just a single game. Leodis McKelvin is expected to see the most time in his absence, but Ashton Youboty could work in at the vacant corner spot as well. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 09/28/08, Time: 9:23 pm
News: Lynch went for a mere 57 yards on 19 carries against the Rams and failed to reach the end zone for the first time this season.
 Analysis:

The four touchdowns through the first three weeks mask the fact that Lynch has picked up just 3.5 yards per carry so far. That's not a big surprise based on his weak offensive line, but it's also not too encouraging for sustained success or the potential for any big days. The Rams came into this game yielding 5.1 yards per carry. Of course, the Bills have showed that they'll keep going to Lynch, so he'll be worthwhile when he should end up reaching the end zone more often than he doesn't. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 09/28/08, Time: 9:10 pm
News: Edwards threw for only 197 yards and one touchdown, as well as one interception, in Sunday's victory over the Rams.
 Analysis:

After Edwards' start to the season, it seemed like he should have done more against a woeful defense in St. Louis. Of course, maybe we were getting a little too excited about a guy who is still in his first full season as a starter. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: James Hardy WR, Buffalo Bills 09/26/08, Time: 8:13 pm
News: The thumb injury that is expected to sideline Roscoe Parrish for the next month or so could free up a few passes to potentially go Hardy's way. Parrish caught three balls in two of the season's first three games.
 Analysis:

It's not a lot of extra work to go to Hardy, but his value for this season lies almost entirely in the possibility of him catching a touchdown pass. The absence of the speedy Parrish hurts the team's ability to score from long distances a little bit, which could also create a couple of extra red-zone chances. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Roscoe Parrish WR, Buffalo Bills 09/26/08, Time: 8:06 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Thumb surgery is expected to sideline Parrish for as much as the next five weeks.
 Analysis:

Parrish isn't much of a fantasy option, so this news is probably more significant for the value of teammate James Hardy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ernie Sims LB, Detroit Lions 09/22/08, Time: 9:52 pm
News: Sims put up a game-high 11 solo tackles and 13 total in the loss to the Niners on Sunday. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Gosder Cherilus T, Detroit Lions 09/22/08, Time: 6:59 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Cherilus has finally won the starting right tackle job over George Foster.
 Analysis:

Probably won't do too much to help that inept offense. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donte Whitner DB, Buffalo Bills 09/21/08, Time: 11:07 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Whitner put up season lows of five total tackles and four solos against the Raiders on Sunday.
 Analysis:

He hasn't been much help to IDP owners yet. Whitner's lack of tackles might be attributable to his playing on a good defense, especially because his position places him at the back of most plays. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Paul Posluszny LB, Buffalo Bills 09/21/08, Time: 11:03 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Despite 30 rushes to 19 passes thrown by Oakland on Sunday, the Bills' middle linebacker collected just six total tackles, five solo.
 Analysis:

Although it's nice that Posluszny has already broken up three passes, it would be nicer if he were making more tackles. He has yet to produce more than five solos or six total in a game this season. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Aaron Schobel DE, Buffalo Bills 09/21/08, Time: 10:57 pm
News: Schobel failed to record a sack against the Raiders on Sunday, despite working against substitute left tackle Mario Henderson.
 Analysis:

Although it's always disappointing, these empty days will happen. Don't let it sour your opinion of Schobel. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Leigh Bodden DB, Detroit Lions 09/20/08, Time: 8:44 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Just a week after taking over a starting corner job, Bodden has given it right back to Travis Fisher.
 Analysis:

Maybe the Browns knew what they were doing after ball when they dealt Bodden and a third-rounder for Shaun Rogers. He's certainly off to a disappointing start in Detroit. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kyle Williams DT, Buffalo Bills 09/16/08, Time: 5:31 am
News: Williams produced five tackles (four solo) and a sack in the victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Williams isn't worth owning, but the fact that beat the Jags' interior line for a sack despite coming into the day with two career QB takedowns is worth noting. There's some sleeper value for tackles playing Jacksonville. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Terrence McGee DB, Buffalo Bills 09/16/08, Time: 5:28 am
 Status:
Hot
News: McGee led the team with seven solo tackles in the victory over Jacksonville and picked off a pass for the second straight week.
 Analysis:

McGee appears to be reclaiming his spot among the top IDP defensive backs. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dewayne White DE, Detroit Lions 09/15/08, Time: 10:52 pm
News: White notched a sack for the second straight week on Sunday against the Packers. He also began 2007 -- his first season with the Lions -- with a sack in the first week but didn't reach two until Week 7.
 Analysis:

White obviously has some pass-rush ability, but it's a bit too early to predict anything big from him. Let's just see how he progresses. If you're desperate for a lineman, though, you could do worse than him against the Niners in Week 3. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Daniel Bullocks DB, Detroit Lions 09/15/08, Time: 10:48 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Bullocks capitalized on increased playing time by leading the team with 12 total tackles and eight solos, while also breaking up a pass.
 Analysis:

The concussion suffered by Gerald Alexander in the game certainly won't hurt Bullocks' chances for playing time. He could work his way into a decent IDP option. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gerald Alexander DB, Detroit Lions 09/15/08, Time: 9:47 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Alexander left Sunday's game early with a concussion, and his status is uncertain for Week 3.
 Analysis:

Safety Daniel Bullocks was already slated for more playing time, so when you combine that with the injury -- and the fact that Alexander is nothing special as an IDP anyway -- you have no need for him on your roster. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kyle Williams DT, Buffalo Bills 09/08/08, Time: 7:41 am
News: Williams produced a sack and a half from his starting tackle position, a spot for which he held off former first-round pick John McCargo.
 Analysis:

Don't get too excited about any fantasy value for Williams, but a pocket push from the interior line would help the value of the team's ends. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Aaron Schobel DE, Buffalo Bills 09/08/08, Time: 7:39 am
News: Schobel provided four solo tackles and a sack against the Seahawks on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Such a performance should be considered standard for the Bills' right end. When healthy, he's one of the league's top sack producers. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Terrence McGee DB, Buffalo Bills 09/08/08, Time: 7:37 am
News: McGee contributed six total tackles and a terrific late interception in Sunday's victory over Seattle.
 Analysis:

He's among the better fantasy options at corner, even when he doesn't return a pick or a kick for a score. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ashton Youboty DB, Buffalo Bills 09/08/08, Time: 7:35 am
News: Youboty was listed as a third starting corner for the Bills on Sunday and led the team with eight total tackles and seven solos.
 Analysis:

That kind of thing will happen when a team with no receivers attempts a ridiculous 46 passes on a rainy day in Buffalo. Youboty's status as a sub-package player, though, keeps him from carrying much fantasy value in general. If he works his way into a starting position, we can reassess. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dewayne White DE, Detroit Lions 09/08/08, Time: 7:12 am
News: White registered a sack and two total tackles against the Falcons on Sunday.
 Analysis:

He began his first season with the Lions with a huge fantasy day against the Raiders in 2007. Since then, though, White has been very ordinary. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwight Smith DB, Detroit Lions 09/08/08, Time: 7:09 am
News: Smith led the Lions with eight total tackles and six solos on Sunday.
 Analysis:

This is a pretty typical day for Smith, making him a decent but not great fantasy option. It's also bad news for the defense when the opposition runs the ball on nearly three-quarters of its plays and your leading tackler is a safety. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Paris Lenon LB, Detroit Lions 09/08/08, Time: 6:46 am
News: Lenon was helped off the field in the fourth quarter Sunday after hurting a knee. He told reporters after the game, though, that he'll be fine.
 Analysis:

Lenon offered just three tackles in the loss to Atlanta, but he makes for a decent IDP play overall. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Calvin Johnson WR, Detroit Lions 09/07/08, Time: 10:03 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Johnson caught seven passes for 107 yards in Detroit's loss to Atlanta Sunday. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Robert Royal TE, Buffalo Bills 09/07/08, Time: 5:41 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Royal had 52 yards receiving and one TD on six catches in the Bills win over the Seahawks. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 09/07/08, Time: 5:39 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Solid Week 1 effort from Edwards, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 215 yards and a TD in the Bills' win over Seattle. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Lee Evans WR, Buffalo Bills 09/07/08, Time: 5:19 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Evans had four catches for 102 yards in Sunday's win over Seattle.
 Analysis:

He didn't score, but had a pretty good game anyway. Worth keeping an eye on. QB Trent Edwards seems to look his way often. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 09/07/08, Time: 5:15 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Lynch had 76 yards and a score on 18 carries and three catches for 18 yards in Buffalo's win over Seattle Sunday.
 Analysis:

Lynch will be even better once LT Jason Peters gets back in playing shape. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Angelo Crowell LB, Buffalo Bills 09/04/08, Time: 9:32 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Crowell went on injured reserve on Thursday after undergoing left knee surgery that reportedly even caught his coaches by surprise.
 Analysis:

Crowell had been in and out of practice, but we'd received no indication that season-ending surgery was possible. According to the AP, Coach Dick Jauron told reporters that "it came pretty much out of the blue." Keith Ellison takes over the starting strongside job but has a ways to go before he assumes any of Crowell's fantasy value. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 09/01/08, Time: 7:51 am
 Status:
Steady
News: Edwards practiced without restrictions Sunday and will be the starter in Week 1 for the Bills.
 Analysis:

Edwards had been suffering from some sore quadriceps, which had limited him during the preseason. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Daniel Bullocks DB, Detroit Lions 08/29/08, Time: 9:39 am
News: Bullocks started Thursday night's exhibition finale and tied for the team lead with five tackles. Afterward, he told reporters, "I felt like Daniel Bullocks is back."
 Analysis:

Bullocks missed all of 2007 with a torn ACL and now sits as no better than the team's No. 3 safety, behind Dwight Smith and Gerald Alexander. The team said when it signed Smith, though, that the hope is to deploy a three-man rotation. That would be good for Bullocks, helping him to get on the field more often, but could ultimately limit the fantasy potential of all three. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Leigh Bodden DB, Detroit Lions 08/28/08, Time: 6:00 pm
News: Although Bodden started in the team's third exhibition game, there has been no report of him winning a top corner job for the regular season. Travis Fisher started opposite Bodden, and Brian Kelly -- who didn't play -- started the other two exhibitions.
 Analysis:

It was assumed early on that Bodden was being held back simply because of Coach Rod Marinelli's policy of not putting new guys in starting roles right away. It's surprising that Bodden's status hasn't changed. He was one of the most productive IDP corners in the league last year, so it would be a significant loss for us if he doesn't crack the lineup. Look for him to pass Travis Fisher at some point. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gerald Alexander DB, Detroit Lions 08/28/08, Time: 5:46 pm
News: MLive.com reports that Alexander is blitzing more so far this year.
 Analysis:

The second-year safety notched two sacks as a rookie to go with 81 total tackles and two interceptions. More shots at the quarterback could increase his decent IDP value, but the Lions' coverage will have to prove it can hold up. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gosder Cherilus G, Detroit Lions 08/28/08, Time: 2:56 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Cherilus still hasn't won the starting right tackle job for the Lions, according to Mlive.com. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 08/26/08, Time: 8:00 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Edwards returned to practict Tuesday after missing the last week because of a bruised quadriceps. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Paris Lenon LB, Detroit Lions 08/23/08, Time: 8:53 pm
News: MLive.com reports that second-round pick Jordon Dizon is nowhere close to unseating Paris Lenon as the starter in the middle.
 Analysis:

Lenon quietly turned in a pretty good IDP season last year with 118 tackles (88 solo), two sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. He's a prime example of why you don't need to reach for defenders. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jordon Dizon LB, Detroit Lions 08/23/08, Time: 8:47 pm
News: MLive.com reports that Dizon isn't close to claiming the starting middle linebacker job for the Lions. Paris Lenon should remain the top guy instead.
 Analysis:

Coach Rod Marinelli said before the draft that middle linebacker in the Tampa 2 scheme is too tough for a rookie to learn. I guess he wasn't joking. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Josh Reed WR, Buffalo Bills 08/21/08, Time: 10:55 am
News: Reed returned to practice on Wednesday after missing 10 days with a sore back. Sporting News Today reports that the team hopes to have him active for Sunday's exhibition game against the Colts.
 Analysis:

Reed has been unable to make much of a fantasy impact after looking promising as a rookie. Continue to ignore him. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 08/20/08, Time: 6:28 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: The injury that removed Edwards from the practice field in Tuesday has been ruled a thigh bruise. He's said to be day-to-day.
 Analysis:

Edwards should certainly be ready for the opener. Although every bit of game-type action helps as he heads into his first full season as starter, missing a week of the exhibition schedule shouldn't hurt much. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Josh Reed WR, Buffalo Bills 08/13/08, Time: 6:43 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Reed has had to miss several practices lately because of a bad back.
 Analysis:

Reed had back surgery in the offseason, so this isn't a good sign. Especially with James Hardy looking to take his starting spot. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Daniel Bullocks DB, Detroit Lions 08/13/08, Time: 5:28 am
News: Bullocks is finally back in practice after missing the early part of camp while recovering from an ACL tear that kept him out for all of 2007.
 Analysis:

He'll have a tougher time finding his way back into the lineup, with Gerald Alexander and Dwight Smith pretty well set at safety. The Lions could still pursue their plan of rotating the three of them, though. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)
