PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Ladell Betts RB, Washington Redskins 10/14/08, Time: 12:18 pm
News: Betts sustained a knee injury in the Redskins? Week 6 loss to the Rams. He is scheduled for an MRI today.
 Analysis:

Betts has always been a consistent producer from the back-up running back position. Clinton Portis has carried a huge load so far this season and a healthy Betts provides a steady back-up for the Washington ground attack. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Jones WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/13/08, Time: 6:45 am
 Status:
Steady
News: Jones caught seven more passes for 69 yards in the win at Denver on Sunday.
 Analysis:

His opening to the season seemed like it could have been fluky, but it looks like Jones is finally realizing his potential. He nearly took one of his receptions into the end zone Sunday, and he'll get his if he keeps catching passes so regularly. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Fred Taylor RB, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/13/08, Time: 6:43 am
News: Taylor left in a bit of a daze in the first half after taking a hard hit from Denver's Nate Webster and fumbling. He did return in the second half, which should mean he'll be fine, especially after a Week 7 bye.
 Analysis:

Anyone who started him agaisnt the Broncos, of course, isn't fine with the three carries and one catch for 20 combined yards and a fumble. Look for a more even distribution of carries to continue after the bye, though. Jones-Drew will always carry the higher value, however. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Maurice Jones-Drew RB, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/13/08, Time: 6:36 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Jones-Drew finally had a huge day against the Broncos on Sunday. He picked up 125 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, adding two catches for another 23 yards.
 Analysis:

It didn't hurt that Fred Taylor left in the first half (though later returned) after getting his bell rung. We all know that Jones-Drew is capable of this kind of output. Really, it would be fine if he could manage even half or two-thirds of it on a more-regular basis. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: David Garrard QB, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/13/08, Time: 6:32 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Garrard enjoyed his most efficient day of the season on Sunday in Denver, completing 73.5 percent of his passes for a season-best 276 yards and a touchdown. He also went interception-free for the third straight game.
 Analysis:

Garrard seems to have settled into the role of solid, ball-protecting passer that we got used to last season. He's back to being a safe-though-unexciting fantasy option. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Santana Moss WR, Washington Redskins 10/12/08, Time: 4:25 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: A week after being held catchless by the Eagles, Moss had just two catches for 22 yards against the Rams.
 Analysis:

Moss has never been an every week, consistent stud, but his performances over the last two weeks leave a lot to be desired. He scored a TD in each of the first three weeks and had 145 yards receiving in Week Four. Where did he go? (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Clinton Portis RB, Washington Redskins 10/12/08, Time: 4:24 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Portis continued his strong running against the Rams. He scored two TD's and had 129 yards.
 Analysis:

Portis has three straight 100-yard rushing games and has scored six times this season. He is running with a great bounce and there are few players I'd trade him for just now. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 10/11/08, Time: 1:05 pm
 Status:
Probable
News: Taylor was a full practice participant on Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's matchup with the Rams. He missed the past two games after requiring emergency calf surgery.
 Analysis:

Taylor immediately looks like a solid IDP starter against the Rams. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 10/10/08, Time: 6:01 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Taylor returnd to limited practice Thursday for the first time since emergency surgery on his calf. He has missed the past two games.
 Analysis:

It's not yet known whether Taylor will play this week, but he is at least getting close. If he is ready for this week, he'll be a decent play against the Rams. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 10/09/08, Time: 5:39 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: The Washington Post reports that if Taylor is able to practice Thursday and Friday, he could play in Week 6. He missed the past two games following emergency calf surgery. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Mike Walker WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/08/08, Time: 7:28 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that an MRI showed Walker's injured MCL is sprained and not torn. The young receiver said he's "shooting for Sunday."
 Analysis:

Let's go ahead and consider him out for fantasy purposes, unless he somehow proves close to 100 percent by Sunday. If Walker can get and stay healthy, he could be a helpful fantasy player for the second half of the season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mike Walker WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/08/08, Time: 11:25 am
 Status:
Out
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that Jack Del Rio said his young receiver might have torn an MCL in Sunday night's game rather than merely sprained it.
 Analysis:

It seems that when a coach makes a "might have" annnouncement on in injury like this, it usually ends up turning into "did." Assume that Walker will be out for the rest of the year, which would be unfortunate after a breakout 100-yard performance against the Steelers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Jones WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/08/08, Time: 9:57 am
News: Jones agreed to avoid a criminal trial stemming from his felony cocaine arrest in the off-season. He agreed to enter an intervention program.
 Analysis:

Jones for now remains an option at WR for fantasy owners. However, should he not meet the requirements of his agreement he will face a criminal trial. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mike Walker WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/07/08, Time: 9:10 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Walker caught six passes for 107 yards on Sunday night but came away from the loss to Pittsburgh with a sprained MCL. It's not yet known whether he'll be able to play in Week 6.
 Analysis:

With a bye coming in Week 7, don't be surprised if the team takes a cautious approach with its young wideout. If Walker can get back healthy, he certainly has a chance to become a regular contributor in a pass offense that has been searching for receivers since before Jimmy Smith retired. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Santana Moss WR, Washington Redskins 10/06/08, Time: 2:22 pm
News: Santana Moss was completely shut down in the Redskins? victory over Philadelphia on Sunday. Moss had been one of the NFL?s most productive receivers going into Week 5.
 Analysis:

Moss owners should stick him right back into the line-up this week. Moss has shown to be a solid option for his quarterback Jason Campbell, and his zero last week was an exception, not a norm. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Campbell QB, Washington Redskins 10/06/08, Time: 1:52 pm
News: Campbell has proven to be a solid leader in Washington (an area devoid of solid leadership). His fantasy numbers this past week were less than amazing with his day finishing 16-29 for 176 yards and no touchdowns and no interceptions.
 Analysis:

Campbell and the Redskins play the terrible Rams this week and he should register solid fantasy numbers again. Campbell looks increasingly more comfortable in the Redskins? offense, and head coach Jim Zorn has shown equal confidence in Campbell. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chris Cooley TE, Washington Redskins 10/06/08, Time: 1:06 pm
News: Cooley had a big game with eight catches for 109 yards. Cooley also caught a touchdown pass from Antwaan Randle El, his first time in the end zone this season.
 Analysis:

Cooley finally looked like the top option in the Redskins? pass offense. The woeful Rams are next up for Washington so consider Cooley a must-play. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Clinton Portis RB, Washington Redskins 10/06/08, Time: 11:13 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Portis had a huge day in the victory over Philadelphia on Sunday, rushing for 145 yards and a touchdown against the league's top run defense.
 Analysis:

Portis is an every-week starter in any league right now. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 10/05/08, Time: 10:44 am
News: Taylor is inactive for the second straight week because of the calf that required emergency surgery. He should be ready to return soon, though, possibly next week. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Matt Jones WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/01/08, Time: 8:33 pm
News: Matt Jones has been the most consistent wide receiver for the Jaguars so far this season. Jones racked up 71 yards this past week and caught his first touchdown of the year. With legal issues still pending, Matt Jones has become a solid receiver for Jacksonville.
 Analysis:

Jones is not a great play this week because the Jaguars host the Steelers this week. Pittsburgh boasts the number one pass defense in the league. If Jacksonville wants to have any chance of winning, they will need to throw the ball effectively and Jones has been the best target QB David Garrard has. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Josh Scobee K, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/01/08, Time: 10:39 am
News: Scobee has been instrumental in every Jags contest so far this year. The Jacksonville ball control offense lenads itself to having a kicker that will rack up fantasy points.
 Analysis:

The Steelers come calling Sunday night and this one could be another game that goes down to the wire and is decided by the kickers. Scobee and Pittsburgh's Jeff Reed are both solid plays. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Campbell QB, Washington Redskins 10/01/08, Time: 10:31 am
News: Campbell would be an early favorite for MVP so far this season. Last week he was excellent in the Redskins win at Dallas with 231 yds. 2 TD's and 0 picks.
 Analysis:

Campbell and the Skins travel to Philly this week and he, as well as all of his recievers (Moss, Randle-El and Thrash), should be considered solid fantasy plays. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: David Garrard QB, Jacksonville Jaguars 10/01/08, Time: 9:35 am
News: Garrard was as effective with his feet as he was with his arm last week against Houston. The Steelers visit Jacksonville on Sunday night and Garrard has a less than impressive histroy against the gold and black.
 Analysis:

Garrard will have trouble against the Steelers this week. Pittsburgh is top rated against the pass and Garrard has spent alot of time on the move in the pocket (or lack there of) this season. You might want to shy away from any Jag this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kevin Nagle LB, Washington Redskins 09/30/08, Time: 12:56 pm
 News: Nagle is good.
Player: Santana Moss WR, Washington Redskins 09/28/08, Time: 9:31 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Although Moss failed to reach the end zone for the first time this season, he did catch eight passes for 145 yards against Dallas. It was the second time in three weeks that he gained at least that many yards.
 Analysis:

Moss is finally playing up to his potential. His owners need to keep him in the lineup. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Campbell QB, Washington Redskins 09/28/08, Time: 9:29 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Campbell threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's upset of the Cowboys.
 Analysis:

This was Campbell's third straight outing that had to be labeled at least solid after a terrible-looking opener to the season. He should be looked at as a worthy consideration for starting duty on a regular basis. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Maurice Jones-Drew RB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/28/08, Time: 7:43 pm
News: The Jaguars forgot to run the ball again in Sunday's overtime victory over the Texans, giving Jones-Drew just seven carries for 32 yards.
 Analysis:

Obviously, it the run-pass breakdown is often dictated by situation, but it's absurd that David Garrard has already attempted at least 32 passes in a game twice. This is a run-first team. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Jones WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/28/08, Time: 4:19 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Jones caught five passes for 71 yards and scored his first touchdown of the season in Sunday's victory over Houston. He has caught at least five passes in every game.
 Analysis:

Jones remains the Jaguars' go-to receiver. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jerry Porter WR, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/28/08, Time: 4:15 pm
News: Porter caught just one pass for 6 yards in his Jaguars debut.
 Analysis:

We'll certainly have to wait for him to show us something before we think about making him a fantasy starter. Porter is worth keeping at the bottom of a deep roster, though, in case he does get worked into the gameplan more. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Reggie Nelson DB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/23/08, Time: 11:22 pm
News: Nelson limped off the field Sunday with a knee strain. He says the injury isn't serious.
 Analysis:

If he's ready to go for Week 4, he should have a favorable matchup against the Texans. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Rocky McIntosh LB, Washington Redskins 09/22/08, Time: 9:27 pm
News: McIntosh put up his first double-digit tackle total since returning from his 2007 season-ending knee injury. He added a half-sack and a forced fumble to his 10 total tackles (seven solo).
 Analysis:

McIntosh emerged as a solid IDP early last year, his first season as a starter. It would certainly help if he can reclaim some of that production this year. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 09/22/08, Time: 7:32 pm
 Status:
Out
News: ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Taylor underwent shin surgery after doctors said he could be in danger of suffering permanent nerve damage. He will miss at least one week. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Reggie Nelson DB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/21/08, Time: 9:58 pm
News: Nelson left in the third quarter of Sunday's victory over the Colts with a bruised knee.
 Analysis:

We'll have to see whether the injury affects his status for next week. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Fred Taylor RB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/20/08, Time: 11:51 am
 Status:
Cold Probable
News: Taylor practiced fully on Friday, and Coach Jack Del Rio said he'll play against the Colts.
 Analysis:

Unlike Jones-Drew, Taylor doesn't belong in your lineup this week. He doesn't get as many red-zone carries as his younger teammate and should sit on the bench until the Jacksonville running game gets going. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Maurice Jones-Drew RB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/20/08, Time: 11:47 am
 Status:
Cold Probable
News: Jones-Drew is officially listed as probable with the ankle injury that has bothered him a bit this week. His coach has said he'll play.
 Analysis:

Despite his weak fantasy numbers so far, it's a bit tough to say that Jones-Drew has struggled. The team has yet to give him more than seven carries in a game this year despite playing two tight contests. Obviously the injuries at guard hurt the running game, but Jacksonville needs to at least try to run the ball more. Let's hope the team does at Indianapolis this week. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chris Horton DB, Washington Redskins 09/16/08, Time: 6:43 am
News: The rookie picked off two passes and recovered a fumble while filling in at strong safety on Sunday.
 Analysis:

It was a nice debut as a starter but shouldn't be looked at as a benchmark, even if Reed Doughty continues to afford him the opportunity to play. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 09/16/08, Time: 6:39 am
News: Taylor notched his first sack with Washington on Sunday but also missed part of the game after tweaking his knee.
 Analysis:

It's nice to see him get to the quarterback, but the knee continues to be a worry. Taylor might be a matchup play at this point, which could mean starting him against Arizona and second-year right tackle Levi Brown this week if Taylor proves healthy enough. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Quentin Groves DE, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/16/08, Time: 5:37 am
News: Groves notched his first NFL sack on Sunday and forced a fumble.
 Analysis:

Derrick Harvey's holdout makes Groves the better bet to help out early this year. He didn't show enough in the exhibition games, though, for us to expect him to be fantasyworthy. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mike Peterson LB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/16/08, Time: 5:35 am
News: After the erroneous report of his inactivity that was generated from the Bills' official site, Peterson posted seven solo tackles in the loss to Buffalo.
 Analysis:

Peterson remains a good IDP when healthy, but we'll see how long he can stay healthy this season. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Williams DB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/16/08, Time: 5:33 am
News: Williams put up eight tackles for the second straight game, leading his team Sunday with eight solos.
 Analysis:

It's too early to declare a trend for Williams, but it seems that the move to safety is resulting in more tackles. Obviously, this would increase his fantasy value if it holds up. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Justin Durant LB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/15/08, Time: 9:59 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Durant replaced Clint Ingram in the starting lineup at outside linebacker on Sunday, but he managed just two tackles before leaving with a groin injury. There's no word yet on whether he'll miss any time.
 Analysis:

Durant appears ready to take over for Mike Peterson as the team's most productive fantasy linebacker. Obviously, that depends on him being healthy, though. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marcus Washington LB, Washington Redskins 09/15/08, Time: 9:45 pm
 Status:
Probable
News: Washington missed Week 2 because of a hamstring injury, but Coach Jim Zorn says he expects his strongside starter to return for Week 3.
 Analysis:

Washington is an athletic player who can score in multiple categories. He could be a decent play against Arizona, but only if he's deemed completely healthy. He's not worth a chance if there's any risk of tweaking the hamstring. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jason Taylor DE, Washington Redskins 09/11/08, Time: 12:44 pm
News: The Washington Post reports that Taylor says he's "nowhere near 100 percent" in the wake of the preseason injury to his right knee.
 Analysis:

Taylor should be 100 percent on your bench until he proves ready to perform like the player we've gotten used to. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Vince Manuwai G, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/09/08, Time: 9:41 am
 Status:
Out
News: Manuwai tore his ACL in the season opening loss to Jacksonville and will miss the rest of the season.
 Analysis:

A big blow to the Jags offensive line. In addition, Maurice Williams (starting right guard) tore his biceps muscle and will miss at least two months. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Malcolm Kelly WR, Washington Redskins 09/09/08, Time: 9:38 am
 Status:
Steady
News: Kelly returned to practice Monday with the Redskins after missing Week 1 with a bum hamstring and knee.
 Analysis:

Kelly probably won't start, but he should get some chances. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Clint Ingram LB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/08/08, Time: 1:32 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Ingram started ahead of second-year linebacker Justin Durant on Sunday but finished the game with just two solo tackles to Durant's five.
 Analysis:

Expect the younger player to take over the job before too long. Until then, neither can be inserted into IDP lineups. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Justin Durant LB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/08/08, Time: 1:30 pm
News: Despite starting on the sideline in favor of Clint Ingram, Durant outproduced his positional foe five solo tackles to two.
 Analysis:

The second-year linebacker should take over the job sooner than later and continue to outperform Ingram. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Williams DB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/08/08, Time: 1:28 pm
News: Williams started ahead of Gerald Sensabaugh at strong safety and led all Jaguars with six solo tackles.
 Analysis:

Williams could be a decent contributor, though likely nothing special. The thing that could change his trajectory, though, is if the former cornerback can make a good number of plays on the ball. In six years as a corner, though, he only registered 10 pass breakups once. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Derrick Harvey DE, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/08/08, Time: 1:23 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Harvey saw some time in his first pro game and actually picked off a pass against the Titans.
 Analysis:

He could have stood to contributed as an IDP had he reported to camp on time, but it figures to be a while before we can expect much from the rookie end. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: David Garrard QB, Jacksonville Jaguars 09/07/08, Time: 5:25 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Garrard threw for 215 yards, one TD and two INT's in Sunday's loss the Titans. He completed 23 of 35 passes.
 Analysis:

The Tennessee defense looked mighty impressive. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
