PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Carnell Williams RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/14/08, Time: 12:31 pm
News: Williams is eligible to come off the P.U.P. list this week. Reports out of Tampa Bay say the Williams will be integrated back into practice very sparingly.
 Analysis:

Tampa Bay used Ernest Graham primarily as a fullback and used Warrick Dunn as the tailback in their Week 6 win against Carolina. The backfield in Tampa Bay is currently pretty full so Williams will be given as much time as necessary to get to 100%. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/14/08, Time: 12:13 pm
News: Griese is still nursing the sore elbow that kept him out of Tampa Bay?s Week 6 win against Carolina. Griese has taken a back seat to former starter Jeff Garcia and would likely be on the bench no matter what the injury report says.
 Analysis:

Griese is not a realistic choice for any fantasy format. Eventually Garcia will play himself back out of the starting line-up and then Griese?s injured elbow will feel much better. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mario Williams DE, Houston Texans 10/12/08, Time: 9:05 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: The 2006 No. 1 pick beat 2008 No. 1 pick Jake Long for two sacks in the Texans' victory over Miami on Sunday.
 Analysis:

If it weren't for John Abraham's huge start, Williams would easily be the No. 1 fantasy lineman right now. As it is, he's probably the top option going forward anyway. He's a beast. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Andre Johnson WR, Houston Texans 10/12/08, Time: 9:03 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Johnson caught 10 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over Miami.
 Analysis:

Johnson is one of the league's best receivers and an every-week fantasy starter. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Schaub QB, Houston Texans 10/12/08, Time: 9:01 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Schaub threw for a league-high (at least before the Patriots-Chargers game ended) 379 yards on Sunday, connecting for a touchdown and two interceptions. He also ran in the game-winning touchdown on a draw near the end of the fourth quarter.
 Analysis:

Schaub has thrown for 300 yards in consecutive games and seems ready to be a solid fantasy contributor. He should be better than solid next week, as the Texans welcome the lowly Lions to town. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Earnest Graham RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/12/08, Time: 4:11 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: It was Graham's turn to be the change of pace back for the Bucs. He had just five carries for 11 yards. He did score a TD from the fullback position and caught two passes for 47 yards.
 Analysis:

Graham has had some nice fantasy days, but Sunday wasn't really one of them. He still has a nice featured role in the Tampa offense, but his owners might not be happy about his 15 combined carries over the last two weeks. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Warrick Dunn RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/12/08, Time: 4:09 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Dunn got the majority of the carries against the Panthers. He ran 22 times for 115 yards.
 Analysis:

Those who thought Dunn was done were mistaken. He consistently punched through holes in the line and ran for a lot of tough yards. Earnest Graham vultured his TD, but Dunn was the main man on Sunday. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jeff Garcia QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/12/08, Time: 4:08 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Garcia has an efficient day on his return to the starting spot for Tampa. He was 15-for-20 with 173 yards and a TD.
 Analysis:

The Bucs jumped out to an early lead and let their ground game get the priority. Garcia hit nine different receivers. Whether he gets the start next week against the Seahawks depends on Brian Griese's health. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Will Demps DB, Houston Texans 10/12/08, Time: 9:03 am
News: S Will Demps is expected back on the field this week after missing the Week 5 matchup with the Colts. He's nothing special as an IDP option. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jeff Garcia QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/11/08, Time: 1:36 pm
News: Reports out of Tampa say veteran Jeff Garcia will start Sunday against Carolina. Garcia has been on the bench since a poor showing in Week 1.
 Analysis:

Garcia might surprise everyone and rack up a decent statistical game against the Panthers. Garcia is a total pro and always finds a way to keep him team competitive. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/11/08, Time: 1:03 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Griese did not participate in practice this week after injuring his throwing elbow in the loss to Denver on Sunday. He is officially listed as questionable for this week's game.
 Analysis:

Jeff Garcia appears likely to start for the Bucs. Neither is worth a fantasy start against the Panthers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Joey Galloway WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/09/08, Time: 9:13 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Galloway returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday. He has been out since Week 2 with a foot injury.
 Analysis:

It doesn't appear likely that Galloway will be back this Sunday (or at least not ready to start if he does play). Getting on the field in Week 7, though, would give him three games before the bye. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Earnest Graham RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/08/08, Time: 7:01 pm
News: Graham has split duties with Warrick Dunn in the first five games and is averaging 20 touches per game. He didn?t find the end zone last week in Tampa Bay?s Week 5 loss at Denver.
 Analysis:

Graham gets more attention when Jeff Garcia is the Tampa Bay quarterback. Monitor the status of Garcia and incorporate that into your plans to start Graham. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Schaub QB, Houston Texans 10/08/08, Time: 11:26 am
News: As expected, Schaub will reclaim his starting job this weekend against the Dolphins after missing the loss to the Colts because of a stomach ailment.
 Analysis:

He doesn't make for a strong fantasy option against a Dolphins defense that held the Chargers to 10 points last Sunday. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Barrett Ruud LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/08/08, Time: 7:45 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: According to the Tampa Tribune, Ruud had this to say about the knee injury he suffered Sunday: "It's a day-to-day thing, but I feel like I should be ready. A little soreness is no problem and that's what I've got right now."
 Analysis:

It would definitely be good for IDP owners if Ruud is available this weekend against the Panthers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jeff Garcia QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/07/08, Time: 10:21 am
News: Garcia entered the Week 5 game against Denver in relief of the injured Brian Griese. He threw for 93 yards and a touchdown.
 Analysis:

Monitor this situation closely. Jon Gruden has been known to have a quick hook with his quarterbacks and Week 6 could be Garcia?s opportunity to get his starting job back. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/07/08, Time: 10:10 am
News: Griese left the game early in Week 5 with an injured elbow. He didn?t exactly tear it up before he exited the game, throwing for 88 yards on 13-for-19 passing.
 Analysis:

Griese will take Tuesday off before attempting to return to practice on Wednesday. If he is considered healthy, he will most likely get the start in Week 6, against Carolina. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Barrett Ruud LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/06/08, Time: 9:28 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: The Orlando Sentinel reports that the team is very concerned about the right knee sprain Ruud suffered in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. Ruud, the team's leading tackler, was replaced by Adam Hayward.
 Analysis:

Losing Ruud would certainly hurt some IDP lineups. We'll keep an eye on further reports, but at this point you should plan on not having him available for at least Week 6. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/06/08, Time: 9:09 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Griese left Sunday's loss to the Broncos with a swollen right elbow and didn't return. He said afterward that he doesn't think it's serious.
 Analysis:

We'll see how serious the injury is. Jeff Garcia was solid in relief of Griese and would seem to be in line to take his job back should Griese miss any time. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Sage Rosenfels QB, Houston Texans 10/05/08, Time: 11:21 am
News: Rosenfels will start in place of Matt Schaub in Week 5 as Schaub deals with a reported stomach ailment.
 Analysis:

It's a good thing Schaub threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns last week before this, or Rosenfels might stand a pretty good chance of taking over the job for real. Still, a strong performance today could create a bit of controversy after Schaub struggled mightily in his first two outings. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Schaub QB, Houston Texans 10/05/08, Time: 11:17 am
News: According to NFL.com, Matt Schaub will miss today's start because of a stomach problem. Sage Rosenfels has been successful in his place before, and there should be no dropoff for the team's other offensive players. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Will Demps DB, Houston Texans 10/05/08, Time: 11:08 am
News: FS Will Demps is inactive today because of a hamstring injury, as expected. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Joey Galloway WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/05/08, Time: 9:00 am
News: Joey Galloway will miss his third straight game today because of a foot injury, and the St. Petersburg Times reports that he hasn't shown much progress. Try to stash the veteran on your bench if you can, but don't expect help from him over the next couple of games. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/05/08, Time: 8:14 am
News: It might be tempting to expect extra motivation to help Brian Griese to a strong fantasy performance against the team that once drafted him today. However, one can't forget that Griese has thrown six interceptions over the past two games. Champ Bailey undoubtedly remembers. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Joey Galloway WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/04/08, Time: 8:04 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Galloway has been ruled out of Sunday's game with the same foot injury that has kept him out of the past two contests.
 Analysis:

It seemed like Galloway was nearing a return at the beginning of the week, but we'll have to keep waiting. Galloway is worth stashing on your bench if you can afford the spot. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Warrick Dunn RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/03/08, Time: 12:39 pm
News: Tampa Bay running back Warrick Dunn rushed 16 times for 63 yards last week against Green Bay. Dunn also caught two balls for 23 yards and has seen plenty of action this year in the Buccaneers? back field.
 Analysis:

Dunn has showed no signs of slowing down in this, his second stint with Tampa Bay. One of the NFL?s most likable characters, Dunn still carries a fair amount of fantasy worth. Tampa Bay is in Denver this weekend. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/02/08, Time: 7:34 am
News: Brian Griese was less than effective against the Packers last week throwing for only 149 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. Griese continues his run of inconsistency that has plagued him his entire career.
 Analysis:

Rumblings out of Tampa Bay say that head coach John Gruden is considering opening the quarterback position back up to a competition. Jeff Garcia and Luke McCown wait in the wings. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ike Hilliard WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/02/08, Time: 7:16 am
News: Ike Hilliard was benched in last Sunday?s game against the Packers and replaced by Michael Clayton. Hilliard caught two balls for 21 yards and may finally be nearing the end of a very solid career.
 Analysis:

Hilliard, like Isaac Bruce, Bobby Engram and Amani Toomer, has been a consistent pass catcher in the NFL and it will be a sad day when all of these ?old pros? are no longer a fantasy option. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Owen Daniels TE, Houston Texans 10/01/08, Time: 1:56 pm
News: Daniels has 3 or more catches in every game so far and led the team last week with 87 yards recieving. He has become a rock-solid number 1 option at TE
 Analysis:

The Colts are thin in the secondary and Daniels runs excellent routes. A potential Pro-Bowler, Daniels should register big numbers this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Schaub QB, Houston Texans 10/01/08, Time: 12:12 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Matt Schaub had his best week of the year against the Jags. He threw for 307 yards and 3 tds with no ints.
 Analysis:

The Texans return home to face a Colts D that is missing Bob Sanders and still has yet to see Dwight Freeney up to his old ways. Expect to see Schaub hook up with big game WR Andre Johnson early and often vs Indy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steve Slaton RB, Houston Texans 10/01/08, Time: 10:16 am
News: Slaton had 116 total yards of offense last week, including a TD recption. Ahman Green was inactive so Slaton was the feature back last week against the Jags.
 Analysis:

Slaton has been the most impressive rookie in the early NFL season. Look for Slaton to get plenty of touches this week against a very suspect Colts D. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Earnest Graham RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10/01/08, Time: 9:28 am
News: Graham had not posted big numbers yet this season until last week against the Packers. His 47 yard scamper late in the game, and TD on the next play took his numbers from fair to good.
 Analysis:

Graham is a solid #2 fantasy starter. The Bucs are in Denver and the Bronco D has been less that stellar this season. Look for Graham to post solid fantasy numbers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Lional Dalton DT, Houston Texans 09/30/08, Time: 12:57 pm
 News: I like Dalton.
Player: C.C. Brown DB, Houston Texans 09/29/08, Time: 10:57 pm
 Status:
Out
News: It was reported initially that Brown might play with a cast on his fractured forearm, but he'll spend the rest of the season on injured reserve following Monday surgery, according to the Dallas Morning News.
 Analysis:

Various reports have mentioned rookie Dominque Barber, Nick Ferguson and Brandon Harrison as fill-ins. Harrison carries the most intrigue, but none should be viewed as a fantasy option before he proves himself. Ferguson is the only one with starting experience, having spent two years as a full-time starter in Denver. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Derrick Brooks LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/29/08, Time: 1:33 pm
News: Coach Jon Gruden said of Brooks after Sunday's victory over Tampa Bay, "What he played like today was the Derrick Brooks that everybody recognizes. He made plays sideline to sideline."
 Analysis:

Although Brooks was active in making a tackle for loss, picking off a pass and forcing a fumble, he still finished with just three total tackles and two solos. He's not the fantasy contributor we've come to recognize. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Earnest Graham RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/28/08, Time: 7:21 pm
News: Graham took 20 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown in the victory over the Packers on Sunday. It was his second 100-yard game of the season and the most carries he has gotten so far.
 Analysis:

It's about time the team handed him the ball 20 times. Of course, that was largely because the Bucs played almost the entire game with the lead. Then again, if you don't give Brian Griese so many chances to toss interceptions, maybe it would be easier to stay close or take a lead. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brian Griese QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/28/08, Time: 7:12 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Griese tossed three interceptions for the second straight week, but this time he accompanied it with just 149 yards and one touchdown.
 Analysis:

Expect his yardage to more often be in this range than within 100 yards of the 407 he put up in Chicago a week ago. He's no more than a matchup play when you're searching for a bye-week fill-in. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Schaub QB, Houston Texans 09/28/08, Time: 4:17 pm
News: Facing rumors that Sage Rosenfels was ready to tag in, Schaub went to Jacksonville and threw for 307 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
 Analysis:

Schaub got dropped in plenty of fantasy leagues heading into Week 4 games. Expect him to be added in just as many over the coming week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Steve Slaton RB, Houston Texans 09/28/08, Time: 4:13 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Slaton got just 10 carries and picked up a mere 33 yards on the ground Sunday, but he also caught eight passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.
 Analysis:

It looks like Slaton will be to the Texans roughly what Chris Johnson is to the Titans. Although Houston has better receivers than Tennessee does, the Texans don't have a LenDale White-type goal-line back to steal those carries consistently. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Matt Bryant K, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/24/08, Time: 8:09 pm
News: Bryant might miss the Week 4 contest following the sudden death of his infant son on Wednesday.
 Analysis:

It's tough to imagine what could be much worse than this. We'll see whether Bryant will be available for the game, but that's pretty unimportant right now. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Joey Galloway WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/24/08, Time: 8:06 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Galloway didn't practice on Wednesday, as he's still nursing the foot injury that kept him out of the Week 3 victory in Chicago. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Zach Diles LB, Houston Texans 09/22/08, Time: 9:14 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Diles notched eight total tackles (five solo) and a forced fumble in Sunday's loss to the Titans. That followed his Week 1 11-solo starting debut.
 Analysis:

The second-year linebacker might have already passed Morlon Greenwood as the team's second-best IDP linebacker. He certainly looks like a player on the rise. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: DeMeco Ryans LB, Houston Texans 09/22/08, Time: 9:12 pm
News: Ryans put up a game-high 10 solo tackles and 13 total against the Titans on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Ryans should never leave your lineup unless he's hurt or on bye. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Joey Galloway WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/22/08, Time: 1:04 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Jon Gruden told the St. Petersburg Times that he wasn't sure if Galloway will play in Week 4 against Green Bay. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)
Player: Greg White DE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/21/08, Time: 11:24 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: White kept his sack streak alive Sunday, getting one for the third straight game to start the season.
 Analysis:

One has to wonder if White will garner more playing time if he keeps this up. That would likely cut into the snaps that Gaines Adams plays, as both line up on the right side, or maybe even lead coaches to consider sliding Adams to left end. Of course, that's all speculation at this point. We'll see how things go. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gaines Adams DE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/21/08, Time: 11:16 pm
News: After being iffy to play in the game, Adams picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown in the victory over Chicago. Otherwise he had just a single tackle.
 Analysis:

The one big play salvaged what would have been a worthless fantasy day. He doesn't have great matchups ahead, with the Packers and Broncos up next. Denver has allowed just one sack so far, and the Packers allowed only one before Sunday night against the Cowboys. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Barrett Ruud LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/21/08, Time: 11:12 pm
News: Ruud made seven tackles (six solo) and about the best interception you will ever see by a linebacker on Sunday.
 Analysis:

His two pass breakups against the Bears nearly matched his season total of three in 2007. Ruud continues to perform like one of the leading IDP linebackers. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ronde Barber DB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/21/08, Time: 11:10 pm
News: Barber had a nice fantasy day in the victory over Chicago Sunday, making six solo tackles to go with a sack.
 Analysis:

He also failed to break up a pass for the second straight week despite the Bucs facing 34 pass attempts from the immortal Kyle Orton. That's a bit discouraging, particularly when you look at Barber's meager tackle numbers from the first two games. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Gaines Adams DE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 09/20/08, Time: 8:34 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Adams fully participated in practice on Friday but remains listed as questionable with an abdominal injury.
 Analysis:

His practice participation seems to indicate he'll be in there on Sunday, and he has a solid matchup with the Bears. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ahman Green RB, Houston Texans 09/20/08, Time: 9:11 am
 Status:
Doubtful
News: The ankle injury that likely would have kept Green from playing had the Texans taken the field in Week 2 still has him listed as doubtful.
 Analysis:

Green should really not even be on your roster at this point. Go ahead and forget he exists. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)
