PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Chad Johnson WR, Cincinnati Bengals 11/20/08, Time: 1:01 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Johnson has been suspended for tonight's game by the Bengals for violating team rules. Cincinnati play-by-play guy Brad Johansen reports that the violation was missing a team meeting because the receiver overslept.
 Analysis:

Not only does this take Johnsocinco out of lineups for this week, it should make it easier for the Steelers to roll coverage toward T.J. Houshmandzadeh. He should be devalued a bit, though he could still get his catches as pretty much the only option. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Carson Palmer QB, Cincinnati Bengals 11/18/08, Time: 8:08 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Palmer has been ruled out for yet another week, meaning Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Thursday night at Pittsburgh.
 Analysis:

Everyone should be treating this situation as though Palmer will miss the rest of the year. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Fred Jackson RB, Buffalo Bills 11/18/08, Time: 4:29 pm
News: Jackson carried the ball a season-high 12 times for 60 yards on Monday against Cleveland.
 Analysis:

The 60 yards was a season-best for Jackson but he did lose a fumble in the game. Jackson does not see enough touches to have much fantasy value expect as a flex based on the match up. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Lee Evans WR, Buffalo Bills 11/18/08, Time: 6:29 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Evans failed to catch a pass on Monday in the Bills' loss to Cleveland.
 Analysis:

Evans was only targeted once all game by Trent Edwards. He has been quiet lately with only six receptions for 63 yards in his last three games. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 11/18/08, Time: 6:24 am
News: Lynch rushed 23 times for 119 yards, and also had 10 receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown against Cleveland on Monday.
 Analysis:

This was Lynch's best game of the season as he topped 100 rushing yards for the first time and recorded his first receiving touchdown. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 11/18/08, Time: 6:21 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Edwards was 16-of-26 for 148 yards and three interceptions in a 29-27 loss to the Browns'
 Analysis:

Despite the three interceptions, Edwards did throw for a touchdown and ran for one as well. Edwards has only three touchdown passes and seven interceptions in his last three games. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Donte Whitner DB, Buffalo Bills 11/15/08, Time: 1:00 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Whitner took part in some limited practice this week and hopes to play on Monday night. He missed last week's game after separating his shoulder against the Patriots.
 Analysis:

He'll probably be a game-time decision, so we can't wait for the Monday night start to make the lineup call. Go for another defensive back in his place. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Antwan Odom DE, Cincinnati Bengals 11/15/08, Time: 12:13 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Odom missed practice this week with an injured shoulder and is not expected to play against the Eagles on Sunday. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 11/11/08, Time: 10:52 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Lynch carried 14 times for just 46 yards in Sunday's loss to the Patriots.
 Analysis:

Lynch has had trouble accumulating yardage all season. He has now scored in just two of the past six games, however. A first-round pick in many leagues, Lynch is only an average fantasy option at this point, though the Browns could provide a favorable matchup this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 11/11/08, Time: 10:49 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Edwards threw for just 120 yards and one touchdown while tossing two picks against the Patriots on Sunday.
 Analysis:

After making it through the first six games with just two interceptions, Edwards has been picked five times in the past three weeks. This week's matchup with a Browns defense that just allowed Jay Cutler to throw for 447 yards looks attractive, but Cleveland is also capable of grabbing some interceptions. They picked Eli Manning three times, for instance, in the Giants' only loss of the season so far. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kawika Mitchell LB, Buffalo Bills 11/09/08, Time: 8:50 am
News: LB Kawika Mitchell was a limited practice participant this week because of an injured ankle, but he is expected to start. The ankle issue certainly makes him a less-than-safe choice, but there is scoring potential against a Pats offense whose running game should provide a decent number of tackle chances and whose pass offense remains vulnerable to sacks.
Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 11/09/08, Time: 8:18 am
News: The Bills could be without both starting guards today on offense, which doesn't help Marshawn Lynch at all. The Bills' back already had a decently tough matchup with the Patriots and is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry on the season. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Donte Whitner DB, Buffalo Bills 11/08/08, Time: 11:00 am
 Status:
Out
News: Whitner is out indefinitely with the shoulder separation he suffered against the Jets last week. Bryan Scott will start in his place.
 Analysis:

Scott has put up decent numbers in fill-in duty and could be a deep sleeper option for IDPers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chad Johnson WR, Cincinnati Bengals 11/03/08, Time: 7:43 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Johnsocinco caught five passes for 37 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's first victory of the season. He has three touchdowns over the past three games.
 Analysis:

Like Houshmandzadeh, Johnsocinco continues to produce modest yardage totals but be a solid PPR option. He has the apparent advantage, though, of being Ryan Fitzpatrick's preferred scoring option. All four of Johnsocinco's four touchdowns have come from Fitzpatrick, which accounts for all of the TD passes the backup quarterback has thrown. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR, Cincinnati Bengals 11/03/08, Time: 7:39 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Houshmandzadeh reeled in seven more catches for 65 yards in Sunday's victory over the Jaguars. He has caught at least seven balls in five straight games and six of the past seven. He grabbed six in the other.
 Analysis:

Housh continues to be a strong play in PPR leagues but a more modest option in those that don't count receptions. He has picked up less than 10 yards per catch in six of nine games and hasn't reached the end zone in four weeks. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Cedric Benson RB, Cincinnati Bengals 11/03/08, Time: 7:35 am
News: Benson came out of nowhere to take his 24 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Jaguars.
 Analysis:

As with Ryan Fitzpatrick's numbers, this should be taken as a sign of the Jaguars stinking rather than Benson coming around. Before Sunday, he was picking up 3.3 yards per carry. We'll see if he can continue to pick things up after the Week 10 bye, but there seems to be little reason to get excited. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ryan Fitzpatrick QB, Cincinnati Bengals 11/03/08, Time: 7:33 am
News: Fitzpatrick enjoyed his first outing with multiple touchdown passes as a Bengal, connecting for two in a victory over the Jaguars on Sunday. He also threw an interception on his way to 162 yards.
 Analysis:

This was clearly a case of Jacksonville's defensive ineptitude rather than Fitzpatrick's burgeoning fantasy value. Let's not forget that just a week ago he threw no touchdown passes and two picks at Houston and that he has yet to put up more than 164 yards after five starts. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Derek Fine TE, Buffalo Bills 11/02/08, Time: 9:41 pm
News: Fine caught four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss. For the season, that gives him ... four catches, 43 yards and a touchdown.
 Analysis:

Don't expect this to be the breakout game for a sudden fantasy factor. We'll see, though, if the rookie can show the team enough to get the starting nod in 2009 ahead of Robert Royal. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Robert Royal TE, Buffalo Bills 11/02/08, Time: 9:36 pm
News: Royal led the team with five catches and 70 receiving yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets.
 Analysis:

With 24 catches through eight games, Royal is just one short of his career high for a season. He has become surprisingly useful as a fantasy tight end. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 11/02/08, Time: 9:33 pm
News: Lynch finished with just 58 total yards in the loss to the Jets on Sunday. He carried only nine times and caught three passes, missing the second quarter after flu-like symptoms left him nauseous following a play on which he chased Abram Elam about 90 yards downfield.
 Analysis:

Lynch has been going for terrible yardage totals, so his fantasy value is nullified when he misses the end zone. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 11/02/08, Time: 9:24 pm
News: Edwards went 24-of-35 in the loss to the Jets on Sunday, including a touchdown and two interceptions. It was his first multiple-interception game of the season, and one was returned for a touchdown by Jets safety Abram Elam.
 Analysis:

Edwards has been a model of efficiency for much of the season, but he has just one touchdown and three interceptions over the past two games. That doesn't bode well for his matchup next week with an intelligent, pressure-applying Patriots defense. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Aaron Schobel DE, Buffalo Bills 11/02/08, Time: 11:05 am
News: DE Aaron Schobel is once again inactive this week with a foot injury. He has been limited even when in the lineup and shouldn't be anywhere near IDP lineups any time soon. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Terrence McGee DB, Buffalo Bills 11/02/08, Time: 10:40 am
News: NFL Network reports that CB Terrence McGee will start today and, although he still isn't 100 percent following a knee injury, will not have to wear the knee brace he had last week. His weak performance against the Dolphins last week should bring plenty of balls his way today and give him the chance to offer a strong IDP performance. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Dexter Jackson QB, Cincinnati Bengals 11/01/08, Time: 5:43 am
 Status:
Out
News: Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in practice this week that has landed him on injured reserve. The team picked up safety Chris Crocker, who was cut by the Dolphins earlier this season, to fill his spot on the roster.
 Analysis:

Jackson's absence solidifies Chinedum Ndukwe and Marvin White as the starting safeties. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Josh Reed WR, Buffalo Bills 10/28/08, Time: 10:55 am
News: Reed is sidelined indefinitely with injuries to his Achilles tendon and ankle.
 Analysis:

This will hurt Trent Edwards production as Reed has been one of Buffalo's most reliable third down threats. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 10/27/08, Time: 10:31 am
News: Trent struggled against the Dolphins D. He only completed 21 of his 35 passes for 227 yards, no TDs, and 1 INT.
 Analysis:

Rough day for Edwards owners. Edwards needs more carries out of Lynch to keep D's more honest so he can throw to Evans and the rest of Buffalo WRs. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Lee Evans WR, Buffalo Bills 10/27/08, Time: 10:27 am
News: Lee Evans caught most of yardage that Trent Edwards threw for against the Dolphins. Evans caught 7 passes for 116 yards.
 Analysis:

Evans is one of the best wide receivers in the league and he shows it week after week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 10/27/08, Time: 10:18 am
News: Marshawn had a big day in PPR leagues. He ran for 61 yards and a touchdown while catching 5 passes for 34 yards.
 Analysis:

Good news for Lynch owners as the Bills struggled and were upset by the Phins, Lynch was still able to have a very nice game. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Lee Evans WR, Buffalo Bills 10/26/08, Time: 8:16 am
News: The Dolphins have allowed 23 pass plays of 20 or more yards this season, second most in the league. That bodes well for Buffalo's biggest big-play threat, WR Lee Evans, in Week 8. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Aaron Schobel DE, Buffalo Bills 10/25/08, Time: 7:51 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Schobel will miss his second straight game this weekend because of the injured left foot that has limited him for a while.
 Analysis:

Don't start him again until he proves worthy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chad Johnson WR, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 9:55 pm
News: Johnsocinco caught eight balls for 52 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Steelers. The touchdown was just his second of the season and first in three weeks.
 Analysis:

Sunday marked just the second time all season that Johnsocinco caught more than four passes. For what it's worth, though, both have come with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. Obviously, the loudmouthed one would be a much more regular fantasy contributor if we could count on him for a few more catches in the average week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: T.J. Houshmandzadeh WR, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 9:51 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Houshmandzadeh caught eight passes for 58 yards in the loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday. He caught six and seven passes in Ryan Fitzpatrick's two previous starts in place of Carson Palmer.
 Analysis:

Housh remains a solid PPR-league option with Fitzpatrick on the field, but his value takes a hit in leagues that don't score receptions. Without Palmer, the Bengals are less likely to reach the end zone, and Housh gains less yardage. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chris Perry RB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 9:49 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Perry did see time in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh, but he didn't touch the ball once. He lost his starting job to Cedric Benson.
 Analysis:

Perry came into the game with an injury, but the lack of touches should serve as an indication of his severely depleted status with the team. If you didn't trade him within the 5 minutes that he carried any value, it's probably time to just cut him. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Cedric Benson RB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 9:46 pm
News: Benson carried 14 times for 52 yards on Sunday in his first start for the Bengals.
 Analysis:

It's tough to draw many conclusions from such a performance in a blowout loss to a team with a tought defense. All we can know for sure is that Benson is the Cincy back to own in fantasy leagues at this point ... if you really feel the need to own one. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ryan Fitzpatrick QB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 8:27 pm
News: Fitzpatrick had a decent day in Sunday's loss to the Steelers, completing 21 of 35 passes for 164 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He did, however, fumble twice and lose one for the second straight game.
 Analysis:

Fitzpatrick is no fantasy option, though if he can get more efficient, it would help the value of his receivers. He's likely to start at least next week's game while Carson Palmer continues to nurse his injured throwing elbow. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Lee Evans WR, Buffalo Bills 10/19/08, Time: 8:11 pm
News: Evans caught eight passes for 89 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over the Chargers.
 Analysis:

Evans is always a big-play threat. If he could begin to consistently catch more passes, his value could significantly improve in a hurry. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marshawn Lynch RB, Buffalo Bills 10/19/08, Time: 8:09 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Lynch ran for 70 yards and a touchdown in the victory over the Chargers on Sunday.
 Analysis:

This is Lynch in 2008: unspectacular yardage and a touchdown. As long as you don't set your expectations too high, you shouldn't be disappointed. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 10/19/08, Time: 8:06 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Edwards enjoyed another efficient performance in beating the Chargers on Sunday. He completed 25 of 30 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown and didn't turn the ball over at all.
 Analysis:

Edwards' performance was particularly encouraging considering that he was returning from a concussion and reportedly said he's still suffering from some symptoms. He's like David Garrard last year, trustworthy without a ton of big-play potential. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Cedric Benson RB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 10:46 am
News: RB Cedric Benson will start for the Bengals today against Pittsburgh, and should be the strongest fantasy option among the Bengals backs the rest of the way this season, barring injury. Of course, that doesn't make him a good play today against a tought Pittsburgh defense. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Dave Rayner K, Cincinnati Bengals 10/19/08, Time: 10:44 am
News: K Dave Rayner will fill in again this week for Shayne Graham, who is nursing a groin injury. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Aaron Schobel DE, Buffalo Bills 10/19/08, Time: 9:45 am
News: Two NFL Network reporters from Buffalo have now said that DE Aaron Schobel will "try to give it a go" despite his sprained foot. That doesn't bode well for his effectiveness, even if he is able to play. Hold Schobel out of your IDP lineup until he proves healthy enough to contribute. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 10/19/08, Time: 9:22 am
News: NFL Network's correspondent for the Buffalo-San Diego game reports that QB Trent Edwards continues to feel some effects from his Week 5 concussion. He'll play today, but this news has to hurt his value a bit. If he gets into the game and realizes he doesn't have it all together or takes another good shot, Edwards could be in for a shortened day. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Carson Palmer QB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/18/08, Time: 7:51 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Coach Marvin Lewis said Saturday that Palmer is likely to miss the Week 8 meeting with Houston in addition to this week's game against Pittsburgh. Week 8 was originally Cincinnati's bye week, but that won't come until Week 10 as a result of schedule changes in reaction to Hurricane Ike's impact on Houston.
 Analysis:

Things seem to be moving disturbingly close to Palmer being done for the season. If he can get back on the field after the bye, he could still be around for six fantasy weeks, including a Week 16 visit to Cleveland. We'll see what happens. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Carson Palmer QB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/17/08, Time: 7:21 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Palmer will miss his third game of the season and second straight this weekend. Ryan Fitzpatrick will again start in his place.
 Analysis:

There's some thought that Palmer would be best off shutting it down for the year. Those who drafted him obviously hope that won't be necessary. He'll get to rest through the Week 8 bye, so we'll see if he's ready by Week 9. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ben Utecht TE, Cincinnati Bengals 10/17/08, Time: 7:18 pm
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Utecht, who missed Week 3 with a chest injury, is once again listed as doubtful with an injury to the same area. He missed practice this week.
 Analysis:

He's not worthy of fantasy consideration anyway. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Carson Palmer QB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/17/08, Time: 11:29 am
News: Palmer revealed that he found out some information he "wasn't expecting" when he visited the Mets team doctor.
 Analysis:

This is a bad sign for Palmer owners. No word yet on if it will be surgery or not, but Palmer is seeking more opinions on his sore elbow. It doesn't look like he will play this week.

Player: Carson Palmer QB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/15/08, Time: 9:14 am
News: John Clayton of ESPN is reporting that Palmer will NOT need Tommy John surgery on his injured elbow.
 Analysis:

All Palmer owners can breathe a sigh of relief that the injury isn't season ending. However, I would still worry about Palmer's lack of production this year. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Cedric Benson RB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/15/08, Time: 9:12 am
 Status:
Hot
News: John Clayton of ESPN reports that Benson is ready to take over the starting HB role in Cincy.
 Analysis:

Benson being the number one shouldn't raise any flags for fantasy players as he is still a questionable option. It should, however, raise flags for the Bengals organization that they have some work to do if Benson is their starter. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Trent Edwards QB, Buffalo Bills 10/14/08, Time: 10:26 am
 Status:
Probable
News: Edwards practice Monday for the first time since suffering a concussion in a Week 5 loss to Arizona.
 Analysis:

He should be ready to go for this Sunday's matchup with the Chargers. Edwards remains a mid-level fantasy option. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Cedric Benson RB, Cincinnati Bengals 10/14/08, Time: 7:53 am
News: ESPN's John Clayton reports that Benson appears likely to take over the starting job for the Bengals this week.
 Analysis:

Unfortunately for anyone hoping to play him, Benson will run into a rested Pittsburgh defense. Still, this move has been expected and could provde a new fantasy option once/if Carson Palmer returns. (SportsBuff.com)
