PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Selvin Young RB, Denver Broncos 11/20/08, Time: 5:39 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Young is still recovering from a groin injury and may not be back on the field until Week 13.
 Analysis:

Young is listed as questionable but is unlikely to play against the Raiders on Sunday. Peyton Hillis is expected to start again for the Broncos. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tony Gonzalez TE, Kansas City Chiefs 11/16/08, Time: 6:07 pm
News: Gonzalez had five receptions for only 39 yards on Sunday in a 30-20 loss to the Saints.
 Analysis:

Gonzalez now has 55 receptions for 583 yards so far this season and is a must-start against Buffalo in Week 12. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwayne Bowe WR, Kansas City Chiefs 11/16/08, Time: 6:05 pm
News: Bowe caught seven passes for 53 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday against New Orleans.
 Analysis:

Bowe has been coming on strong lately with at least six receptions in four of his last five games. The two touchdowns gives Bowe five the season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tyler Thigpen QB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/16/08, Time: 6:02 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Thigpen completed 19-of-38 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns against the Saints on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Thigpen was picked off once but he has now thrown for over 200 yards in three of his last four games, with eight touchdown passes over that span. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Larry Johnson RB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/16/08, Time: 5:59 pm
News: Johnson rushed the ball 19 times for 67 yards and also caught one pass for 20 yards in a 30-20 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Johnson finally returned to the field after missing four games and played well. Johnson and the Chiefs are home to the Bills in Week 12. Consider him a RB2 against Buffalo. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Champ Bailey DB, Denver Broncos 11/16/08, Time: 11:23 am
News: Champ Bailey and Selvin Young are inactive for today's game. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Champ Bailey DB, Denver Broncos 11/16/08, Time: 10:26 am
News: Broncos radio guy Dave Logan just told NFL Network that he'd be "very surprised" if Champ Bailey plays today. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Larry Johnson RB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/16/08, Time: 9:35 am
News: Larry Johnson will return to the field today, but NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that the plan is to give him just 10 to 15 carries. That plan could change depend on how the game goes, but it limits his fantasy value a bit. He's certainly a risky option after missing the past three games, albeit one with considerable upside. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jay Cutler QB, Denver Broncos 11/16/08, Time: 6:35 am
News: Expect plenty of passing this week and the rest of the way for the Broncos, who have placed about 27 running backs on injured reserve. More attempts will give plenty of opportunities for fantasy scoring to Jay Cutler, receivers Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal and tight end Tony Scheffler. We could also see Brandon Stokley reemerge as a fringe fantasy starter. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Selvin Young RB, Denver Broncos 11/16/08, Time: 6:33 am
News: The Broncos will be without Selvin Young today because of his injured groin. That leaves Peyton Hillis as the starter and only back with any recent experience. He'll be backed up by Tatum Bell, who was re-signed early this week after a stint with the Lions, and P.J. Pope, who has never taken an NFL handoff. Hillis is a nice fantasy sleeper for today against an Atlanta defense allowing 4.9 yards per carry. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Champ Bailey DB, Denver Broncos 11/15/08, Time: 12:09 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Bailey returned to some limited practice this week and hopes to play in Atlanta on Sunday. He missed the past two games with an injured groin.
 Analysis:

Even if he goes, you're better off choosing a safer option. Maybe opposing quarterbacks will be more willing to test Bailey, though, until he proves he's over the injury. He wasn't seeing many passes before he got hurt. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Marlon McCree DB, Denver Broncos 11/15/08, Time: 11:57 am
 Status:
Out
News: McCree will miss a second straight game because of his injured ankle. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Nate Webster LB, Denver Broncos 11/15/08, Time: 11:56 am
 Status:
Out
News: Webster is expected to miss about three games with a sprained MCL. Niko Koutouvides is getting the chance to start in his absence.
 Analysis:

Koutouvides lost the competition for the job back in camp, so he would have to really show something in this stint to keep Webster from immediately reclaiming his role. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Hillis RB, Denver Broncos 11/14/08, Time: 11:28 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Selvin Young has missed practice all week with his groin injury, which clears the way for Hillis to start and handle the bulk of the carries Sunday at Atlanta.
 Analysis:

The Falcons have been vulnerable against the run, and Hillis' size makes him an attractive goal-line option. He's a sleeper starting option for fantasy owners this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Selvin Young RB, Denver Broncos 11/14/08, Time: 11:26 am
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Young has missed practice all week with the groin injury that has basically kept him out of the past four games.
 Analysis:

Looks like the path is clear for Peyton Hillis to start against the Falcons this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tatum Bell RB, Denver Broncos 11/12/08, Time: 7:51 am
News: With injuries to Ryan Torain and Michael Pittman, the Broncos signed Bell to a contract on Tuesday.
 Analysis:

It is unclear how or if Bell will be used on Sunday against the Falcons but he could offer more upside than rookie Peyton Hillis if he is in shape to play. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Larry Johnson RB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/11/08, Time: 8:19 am
News: Johnson has served his one-game suspension is expected to play in Week 11 against the Saints.
 Analysis:

Johnson was off to a great start this season but injuries and off-field issues has led him to miss the last four games. Johnson should definitely be in your starting lineup against New Orleans but keep your expectations in check. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brandon Marshall WR, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 7:40 am
News: Marshall caught six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Thursday night win at Cleveland.
 Analysis:

It was certainly a good fantasy night, but Marshall also displayed some poor route-running and bad hands. That combo could lead a quarterback to look elsewhere. Marshall remains a strong fantasy play, but there's reason for concern going forward. Eddie Royal is looking like the more dependable target. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tony Scheffler TE, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 7:38 am
News: Scheffler caught four passes for 92 yards against the Browns on Thursday night. He returned from a three-game absence because of a groin injury.
 Analysis:

Scheffler was obviously still limited physically, but it was also obvious that the Broncos consider him an important passing-game option. The six catches that the next two tight ends combined for show additional fantasy potential for Scheffler if he can get healthy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Eddie Royal WR, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 7:35 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Royal tied for the team lead with six catches Thursday night, gaining a game-high 164 yards. That included a 93-yard touchdown reception.
 Analysis:

Royal is looking like the more dependable of Denver's starting receivers and shouldn't have any trouble continuing to produce. He's a weekly fantasy starter. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Selvin Young RB, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 7:34 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Young got one carry for 2 yards in Thursday night's victory before leaving. He reportedly aggravated his existing groin injury.
 Analysis:

Young will get carries by default if he can get healthy, now that Ryan Torain is expected to join the abundant IR population. Although you could certainly justify stashing him on a deep fantasy bench, Young has offered little reason for optimism this season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jay Cutler QB, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 6:37 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Cutler threw for a ridiculous 447 yards in Thursday night's victory, with three touchdowns and just one interception. The pick came on a poor route by receiver Brandon Marshall.
 Analysis:

The running back injuries that continue to pile up mean that the team will lean even more heavily on the passing game. Expect Cutler to keep throwing a lot and putting up numbers, though it won't always be as easy as it was against the Browns. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Hillis RB, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 5:30 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Hillis could see his role increase drastically with Ryan Torain expected to hit IR and Selvin Young appearing to have aggravated his already injured groin. Hillis carried eight times for 24 yards in the Thursday night victory at Cleveland, a week after catching seven passes for 116 yards against Miami.
 Analysis:

Hillis suddenly looks like the most valuable Denver back. At the very least, he should claim goal-line duties the rest of the way (at least until he follows everyone else to IR). He had quite the impressive fourth-down conversion on the Broncos' game-winning scoring drive in Cleveland. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ryan Torain RB, Denver Broncos 11/07/08, Time: 5:25 am
 Status:
Out
News: NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos think Torain tore the ACL in his left knee during Thursday night's win over Cleveland. He is expected to join several teammates from his position group on injured reserve.
 Analysis:

Torain took 12 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown before leaving on Thursday night, so it's a shame that it looks like he won't be back. Going forward, it's impossible not to worry about his tendency toward injury. He missed about half of his final college season with a foot injury in 2007 and missed the first half of this year with a broken elbow. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ryan Torain RB, Denver Broncos 11/06/08, Time: 10:17 am
News: Torain is expected to start and get the primary carries for Denver tonight in Cleveland.
 Analysis:

Looks like we'll finally get to see if all the hype is at all warranted. The Browns let Ray Rice run wild a week ago and have also been run over by the Giants and Washington in recent weeks. Torain carried three times for 1 yard in his pro debut last week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Selvin Young RB, Denver Broncos 11/06/08, Time: 10:15 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Young is expected to test out his injured groin before tonight's game and will play if it's well enough. He figures to see backup duty, though, behind rookie Ryan Torain.
 Analysis:

Young could recoup some fantasy value as a flex option in the suddenly thin Broncos backfield, but the team's reluctance to use him at the goal line will limit that. He's barely worth owning in most leagues and certainly not worth starting tonight. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Andre Hall RB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 6:54 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Hall has landed on injured reserve with a left hand injury. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Michael Pittman RB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 6:52 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Pittman has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a neck injury in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins.
 Analysis:

That should clear the way for Ryan Torain to take over the starting job. The way Mike Shanahan tends to operate, though, that probably means that he'll go back to Selvin Young as soon as fantasy owners have set Torain in their lineups. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brandon Stokley WR, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:49 am
News: Stokley did return to the field Sunday, catching two passes for 18 yards. He missed the team's Week 7 contest after suffering a concussion the week before againts Jacksonville.
 Analysis:

Stokley was a helpful PPR option while Eddie Royal was struggling with a hurting ankle, but he might not be much fantasy help the rest of the way. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Brandon Marshall WR, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:46 am
News: Marshall caught just two passes for 27 yards in Sunday's loss to Miami. He reportedly had a 77-yard touchdown catch brought back by a penalty.
 Analysis:

Off days happen, unfortunately. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Eddie Royal WR, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:45 am
 Status:
Steady
News: Royal caught seven passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: D.J. Williams LB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:22 am
 Status:
Out
News: Williams left Sunday's game with a sprained ligament in his left knee. The Denver Post reports that he'll miss at least the next three games. Williams made eight tackles (four solo) before departing.
 Analysis:

This injury takes away one of the league's top IDPs. Rookie Wesley Woodyard and Louis Green combined to replace Williams on Sunday. Neither is worth a fantasy pickup, though Woodyard is an intriguing athlete if he can take over the fill-in job in full. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Hillis RB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:15 am
News: The rookie fullback did a spot-on Brandon Marshall impression Sunday with seven catches for 116 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Miami.
 Analysis:

Hillis has just four other touches and 18 other yards for the season, so this performance should be seen as a fluke. Keep an eye on him in deep leagues, though, just in case it was the beginning of an increased role. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Ryan Torain RB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:07 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Torain carried just three times for a single yard in his NFL debut Sunday.
 Analysis:

Don't even think about starting him until he lives up to at least a fraction of the hype. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Michael Pittman RB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:04 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Pittman carried just seven times for a whopping 4 yards in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins.
 Analysis:

Apparently the Broncos decided to deal with their abundance of running backs by not giving any of them the ball, handing off just 11 times versus 46 pass attempts. No Denver back is safe to start until one or two proves his worth. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jay Cutler QB, Denver Broncos 11/03/08, Time: 11:02 am
News: Cutler managed to balance a pretty good fantasy day with a bad real day, completing 24 of 46 passes for 307 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions on Sunday.
 Analysis:

Cutler owners have to be worried about their quarterback, as he has tossed seven touchdown passes and eight interceptions over the past five games. He wore down late last season before getting diagnosed with diabetes in the off-season. Cutler has a deceptive matchup Thursday night with a Cleveland defense that held the Giants and Washington to fewer than 20 points before letting Joe Flacco toss two touchdown passes on Sunday. Cutler suddenly doesn't look like a great option. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwayne Bowe WR, Kansas City Chiefs 11/03/08, Time: 10:42 am
 Status:
Steady
News: Bowe caught just two passes for 29 yards in Sunday's overtime loss, but he did score a touchdown.
 Analysis:

Small numbers like that are going to occur on occassion, especially when you're quarterback has had three outings in which he only completed 14 passes. Bowe continues to carry solid value, though it could hurt if Mark Bradley continues to take away some catches. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jamaal Charles RB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/03/08, Time: 10:39 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Charles took over primary rush duties following Kolby Smith's season-ending knee injury on Sunday and promptly took 18 carries for 106 yards.
 Analysis:

Charles is an explosive runner with tremendous speed who will probably be picked up in nearly all leagues this week where he wasn't previously owned. Be cautious about starting the rookie, though he could be solid against the Chargers. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kolby Smith RB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/03/08, Time: 10:36 am
 Status:
Out
News: Smith took 10 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown in the first half on Sunday before a knee injury ended his season.
 Analysis:

The starting job now figures to fall to rookie Jamaal Charles, at least until/unless Larry Johnson gets back on the field. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Mark Bradley WR, Kansas City Chiefs 11/03/08, Time: 10:34 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Bradley caught four passes for a team-leading 65 yards on Sunday and threw a gorgeous touchdown pass to Tyler Thigpen on a trick play.
 Analysis:

He has caught nine balls over the past two games and quickly turned into a fantasy sleeper. A breakout was always expected from Bradley in Chicago, so maybe he's finally ready for one with the Chiefs, provided he can stay healthy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tyler Thigpen QB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/03/08, Time: 10:32 am
News: Thigpen threw for just 164 yards on Sunday, but he managed to avoid throwin an interception, tossed one touchdown pass, caught another and ran for 22 yards.
 Analysis:

All in all, an excellent day for the Chiefs third-string quarterback. He's going to have to find plenty more passing success before we can start giving him fantasy looks, though. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Kolby Smith RB, Kansas City Chiefs 11/02/08, Time: 10:53 am
News: It'll once again be Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles in the Chiefs backfield, after Charles looked iffy early in the week with a bad ankle. Neither is a good fantasy starter today against the Bucs. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Michael Pittman RB, Denver Broncos 11/02/08, Time: 10:36 am
News: NFL Network's Adam Schefter confirms that Ryan Torain will back up Michael Pittman today and that the two will split carries. Pittman is the better fantasy option, but the sharing figures to limit the value of each player. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Jay Cutler QB, Denver Broncos 11/02/08, Time: 10:34 am
News: The injured finger that took Jay Cutler out of the Monday night loss to the Patriots temporarily is reportedly fine. He shouldn't be limited today. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Tamba Hali DE, Kansas City Chiefs 11/02/08, Time: 9:33 am
News: Tamba Hali has been moved back to left end, where he played through his first two seasons before moving to the right side this year. Hali notched his first sack of the year last week in that spot against the Jets. The Bucs bring a tougher matchup this week, but Hali should be a stronger IDP candidate the rest of the way. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Tony Scheffler TE, Denver Broncos 11/02/08, Time: 8:35 am
News: Tony Scheffler is still dealing with the groin injury that kept him off the field in Week 7. He's questionable for today against Miami, so if you have another decent option, the other guy is probably safer. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Brandon Stokley WR, Denver Broncos 11/02/08, Time: 8:32 am
News: Brandon Stokley is reportedly still dealing with issues related to his latest concussion. It's possible that he'll play today, but it's probably a better idea for you to start someone who will definitely be in the lineup. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Ryan Torain RB, Denver Broncos 11/02/08, Time: 8:25 am
News: Ryan Torain, probably the most talked-about fifth-round pick in league history to have never played a down, is expected to make his debut today as the backup to Michael Pittman. He's worth watching but not a good bet to start this week. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Michael Pittman RB, Denver Broncos 11/02/08, Time: 8:22 am
News: Michael Pittman is expect to start for the Broncos today, with rookie Ryan Torain making his debut in the backup role. Selvin Young and Andre Hall are also in the picture. The crowd in the backfield makes each a weaker play, though Pittman is probably the best bet because he has been the goal-line leader this season. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Ryan Torain RB, Denver Broncos 10/31/08, Time: 8:13 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Although Torain is officially listed as questionable, he was a full practice participant late in the week and appears likely to make his NFL debut this week against Miami.
 Analysis:

Just how much and in exactly what role he'll play, though, is anyone's guess. No Denver back looks like a safe fantasy option in Week 9. (SportsBuff.com)
