PLAYER UPDATES Provided By SportsBuff.com
Player: Chris Chambers WR, San Diego Chargers 10/15/08, Time: 12:46 pm
 Status:
Probable
News: Chambers was reportedly close to being able to play on Sunday night and is expected to return for this week's matchup with the Patriots.
 Analysis:

Despite his scoring potential, Chambers remains a risky play because of the few catches he makes. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Antonio Gates TE, San Diego Chargers 10/13/08, Time: 7:51 am
News: Gates caught four passes for just 35 yards but scored a touchdown on Sunday night. He dropped another third-down pass that would have been a touchdown.
 Analysis:

That's why you just keep him in there. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Malcom Floyd WR, San Diego Chargers 10/13/08, Time: 7:49 am
News: Floyd caught three passes for 75 yards and a touchdown on Sunday night.
 Analysis:

Nice numbers if you happened to take a chance on him in a fit of desperation. Don't expect much more of that, though, from a guy who entered Week 6 with zero receptions. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Vincent Jackson WR, San Diego Chargers 10/13/08, Time: 7:48 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Jackson caught five passes for 134 yards and a touchdown in the victory over the Patriots.
 Analysis:

Philip Rivers was looking for Jackson surprisingly often, based on the number of targets the receiver had gotten before Week 6. Sure, Chris Chambers' absence helped a bit, but Chambers only has 11 catches through five games, so that's not a ton of extra work. It would be nice if this is a sign of increased attention for Jackson going forward. He has plenty of scoring potential, not least because of his 6-5 frame. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 10/13/08, Time: 7:44 am
 Status:
Cold
News: Tomlinson managed just 74 yards on 20 carries against a Patriots defense that has allowed 4.6 yards per rush for the season so far.
 Analysis:

That numer is inflated a bit by the 6 yards per attempt that the Dolphins gained in their Week 3 beatdown, but Tomlinson continues to be troublingly average. He's still two games from his bye week, so let's just hope he can find the end zone a time or two. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Philip Rivers QB, San Diego Chargers 10/13/08, Time: 7:37 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Rivers enjoyed a big game in the win over New England, throwing for 306 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
 Analysis:

Rivers has turned into a weekly starter this season. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tim Jennings DB, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:38 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Jennings produced 10 solo tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and another pass breakup in place of regular starting corner Kelvin Hayden.
 Analysis:

Jennings could be worth a look next week against the Packers if Hayden is still unable to go. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Robert Mathis DE, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:36 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Mathis had a huge day against the Ravens, tallying three sacks to go with six solo tackles and a forced fumble.
 Analysis:

Mathis is often among the league leaders in forced fumbles and is a constant threat for a multi-sack game. He's generally worth a start in a DL spot. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Anthony Gonzalez WR, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:33 pm
News: Gonzalez caught four passes for just 33 yards in his first game since sustaining a concussion against the Texans in Week 5. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Marvin Harrison WR, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:32 pm
News: Harrison went for 83 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's victory over the Ravens. Those two scores tripled his season total.
 Analysis:

Don't get too excited, as Harrison still caught just three passes. It's also worth noting that the Ravens were down to their No. 3 starting option at right corner and still without starting safety Dawan Landry. Of course, it's certainly nice for Harrison's owners to finally get some return. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Reggie Wayne WR, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:29 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Wayne caught eight balls for 118 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory.
 Analysis:

Good times for Peyton Manning mean good times for Wayne. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dominic Rhodes RB, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:28 pm
News: Rhodes carried 25 times for 73 yards and a touchdown, mostly in relief of Joseph Addai. The starter left early with a hamstring injury.
 Analysis:

If Addai is to miss any time, Rhodes should be added in pretty much all leagues, especially with a matchup against the lackluster Green Bay run defense upcoming. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Joseph Addai RB, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:26 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Addai carried just twice for 3 yards on Sunday before leaving with a hamstring injury. The severity is not yet known.
 Analysis:

Addai has been disappointing to fantasy owners so far, but losing him would still hurt. He'll have a favorable matchup with the Packers if he manages to not miss any time. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Manning QB, Indianapolis Colts 10/12/08, Time: 9:21 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Manning had his most productive day of the season so far against the league's No. 1 pass defense. He completed 19 of 28 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns. It also marked the first time since Week 1 that Manning made it through without throwing an interception.
 Analysis:

That's more like it. Manning owners can't really afford to sit him, so it's nice to see this kind of performance again. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Vincent Jackson WR, San Diego Chargers 10/11/08, Time: 12:54 pm
 Status:
Probable
News: Jackson was a full participant in practice Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday night's game. He missed Thursday workouts after hurting his right knee in practice on Wednesday.
 Analysis:

Jackson could get a little more red-zone work with Chris Chambers likely out, but he remains a risky fantasy play. Jackson has caught more than three passes in a game just once this season, and Chambers' absence would only free up about two more receptions a week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwight Freeney DE, Indianapolis Colts 10/11/08, Time: 12:27 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Freeney was a full participant in practice on Friday after missing a few days because of the hamstring he pulled against Houston last weekend. He's listed as questionable but expected to play.
 Analysis:

Freeney makes for a solid IDP defensive line starter against the Ravens. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Vincent Jackson WR, San Diego Chargers 10/10/08, Time: 5:36 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Jackson missed practice Thursday after hurting his right knee in Wednesday's workout.
 Analysis:

Many fantasy owners are looking to Jackson for a good week in the absence of Chris Chambers, but the knee issue probably means we should expect something around Jackson's season average. He has caught three passes in three of five games. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Philip Rivers QB, San Diego Chargers 10/07/08, Time: 11:41 am
News: Rivers is looking at a tough week against the Pats this week. He is missing his #1 depth chart WR, and his tight end hasn?t been the big presence. LT hasn?t been LT this year thanks to a big toe injury, and the Chargers offense has struggled.
 Analysis:

With Chambers gone, the other injuries, and poor offensive line play this year, try to avoid starting Rivers against the Pats. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chris Chambers WR, San Diego Chargers 10/07/08, Time: 11:27 am
 Status:
Doubtful
News: Chambers is suffering from an ankle sprain and is likely to miss the game against the Pats.
 Analysis:

Chambers? injury will open the door for Craig Davis to show what he can do. Don?t rush out and pick up Davis, however, as Rivers will consistently look to other targets. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Craig Davis WR, San Diego Chargers 10/07/08, Time: 11:23 am
News: Davis is expected to start this week against the Pats.
 Analysis:

Don't look for Davis to be anything other than a desperation start. He hasn't shown a lot in his time on the field. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Anthony Gonzalez WR, Indianapolis Colts 10/07/08, Time: 5:23 am
 Status:
Questionable
News: Gonzalez suffered a mild concussion in Sunday's victory over Houston, but the team is hopeful that he won't miss a game because of it.
 Analysis:

There is work for Gonzalez if he can stay in the lineup, as Marvin Harrison just can't seem to play like Marvin Harrison. Gonzalez is a good No. 3 fantasy receiver when healthy. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Antonio Gates TE, San Diego Chargers 10/06/08, Time: 9:40 pm
News: Gates caught just one pass in the loss to Miami on Sunday and said afterward that a hip stinger severely limited him.
 Analysis:

Gates reportedly expects to practice this week and play next Sunday. His owners have to stick with him. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chris Chambers WR, San Diego Chargers 10/06/08, Time: 2:04 pm
News: Chambers sustained an ankle injury during the Chargers loss to Miami.
 Analysis:

The Chargers have yet to address the severity of the injury. Keep an eye on the press conference, injury report, and practice participation of Chambers this week. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 10/06/08, Time: 12:22 pm
News: LT struggled against the Dolphins this week, managing a meager 35 yards on 12 carries and 22 yards on 5 catches.
 Analysis:

Now is the time to worry for LT owners. He has only had one 100 yard game this year (41 of those yards coming on one run). It seems that the days of LT being the top back have come and gone. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Reggie Wayne WR, Indianapolis Colts 10/06/08, Time: 12:21 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Wayne caught 7 passes for 97 yards and the game-winning touchdown.
 Analysis:

Good news for Wayne owners is that Manning looks like he is his old self and Wayne is still the number one target. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Manning QB, Indianapolis Colts 10/06/08, Time: 12:18 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Manning threw for 247 yards and 2 TDs on Sunday vs the Texans. He also helped lead the Colts to 21 points in 2:10 late in the 4th quarter.
 Analysis:

Manning looked good Sunday, his timing appears to be back. The off-season knee injury appears to be no longer hindering him. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Chris Chambers WR, San Diego Chargers 10/06/08, Time: 9:00 am
News: Chambers left Sunday's loss to Miami with an injury to his lower left leg. No specifics have yet been reported.
 Analysis:

We'll have to see what the team says. Chambers hasn't caught a lot of balls so far, but he has been a regular visitor to the end zone. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Manning QB, Indianapolis Colts 10/05/08, Time: 11:09 am
News: Peyton Manning will face a Houston secondary that starts two young corners and will be without both starting safeties today. That could help the Colts' passing game, particularly on deeper routes. Look for a big day from the Colts, who have been disappointing so far. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Bob Sanders DB, Indianapolis Colts 10/05/08, Time: 9:50 am
News: Bob Sanders will miss another game today and is not expected to return before Week 9. He's out with an ankle injury and also had a knee scoped. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Stephen Cooper LB, San Diego Chargers 10/05/08, Time: 8:09 am
News: The Chargers added Stephen Cooper to the active roster on Saturday, and he is expected to recover his starting inside linebacker spot from Derek Smith. Cooper could be a decent starter right away in deep leagues against a Dolphins offense that should favor the run. He could also see his time limited a bit, though, as he returns after missing four weeks because of a drug-related suspension. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Marvin Harrison WR, Indianapolis Colts 10/01/08, Time: 9:12 pm
News: Marvin Harrison had four receptions for 40 yards and one touchdown two weeks ago with, his longest going for 27 yards. The Colts are coming off the bye week and Harrison looks to be healthy; but his timing with quarterback Peyton Manning is far from where it once was.
 Analysis:

The Colts travel to Houston and Harrison should get ample opportunities to catch balls. Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard lit up the Texan secondary last week. This may be Harrison?s 2008 coming out party. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 10/01/08, Time: 10:47 am
News: LT had good numbers last week against the Raiders including his 1st big run from scrimmage, a 41-yd TD scamper. The Bolts travel to Miami as the Fish try and pull another major upset against an AFC heavyweight.
 Analysis:

As LT drags his body towards 100% health, his numbers will continue to remain impressive. Scat-back Darren Sproles has joined LT a major point-producer in fantasy football and both will continue to do so. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Peyton Manning QB, Indianapolis Colts 10/01/08, Time: 9:55 am
News: Manning is coming off a bye week. In week 3 he looked very human against the Jags at home throwing for 216 yds, 1 TD and 2 Interceptions.
 Analysis:

The extra week has helped Manning get his health back and get some of his timing back. He will rebound with a big statistical game against a weak Texan secondary as the Colts travel to Houston. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jay Hackett CB, San Diego Chargers 09/30/08, Time: 12:58 pm
 News: Go bear's and kids"
Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 09/28/08, Time: 9:03 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: The old LaDainian Tomlinson showed up in Oakland on Sunday and ran for 106 yards and two scores on 20 carries.
 Analysis:

Welcome back, sir. (SportsBuff.com)

Player: Philip Rivers QB, San Diego Chargers 09/28/08, Time: 9:01 pm
News: Rivers threw for just 180 yards and a single touchdown against the Raiders on Sunday and tossed two picks. (SportsBuff.com)
Player: Marlin Jackson DB, Indianapolis Colts 09/23/08, Time: 11:20 pm
News: Jackson left the field in the third quarter after hurting his ribs. He returned before the end of the game, though.
 Analysis:

No worries unless you hear otherwise. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Jyles Tucker LB, San Diego Chargers 09/23/08, Time: 7:56 pm
News: Tucker notched his first two sacks since taking over Shawne Merriman's spot in the lineup.
 Analysis:

Tucker could be a solid sleeper the rest of the way, but it'd be nice to see a bit more production from him before trusting him. That said, you could find justification in starting him against the Raiders this week. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Antonio Cromartie DB, San Diego Chargers 09/23/08, Time: 7:54 pm
News: Cromartie produced a team-high nine tackles in the Monday night victory over the Jets and picked off two passes, returning one for a touchdown. Cromartie even dropped another interception that might also have led to a score.
 Analysis:

This kind of game is why he's in your lineup. It's why you can endure the three-tackle outings. It's also why you group a boom-or-bust player with someone such as Rodney Harrison, Lawyer Milloy or Kirk Morrison, who posts more consistent numbers. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Freddie Keiaho LB, Indianapolis Colts 09/22/08, Time: 10:18 pm
 Status:
Hot
News: Keiaho made 11 tackles (eight solo) in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars. His 31 total stops for the season tie him for fourth in the league.
 Analysis:

Keiaho is emerging as expected as an upper-level IDP. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 09/22/08, Time: 6:54 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: LDT will play Monday night despite still suffering from what he has dubbed "turf toe".
 Analysis:

His role may be limited, as he's clearly not 100 percent yet. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Darren Sproles RB, San Diego Chargers 09/22/08, Time: 6:52 pm
 Status:
Steady
News: Sproles is active for Monday night's game and could be a key player if LDT's toe injury isn't fully healed.
 Analysis:

Sproles put up 317 total yards last week in the loss to Denver. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Shaun Phillips LB, San Diego Chargers 09/20/08, Time: 8:27 pm
 Status:
Probable
News: Phillips fully participated in practice on Friday and is expected to play Monday against the Jets.
 Analysis:

Phillips is a solid play against the Jets, who have allowed five sacks so far. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Bob Sanders DB, Indianapolis Colts 09/19/08, Time: 6:57 am
 Status:
Out
News: Sanders is out with a high ankle sprain and will also have a knee scoped while he is out. The safety is expected to miss at least the next four to six weeks.
 Analysis:

We'll see how the team defense fares without him, though I don't think it's a strong fantasy option anyway. Second-year player Melvin Bullitt will replace Sanders. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Tony Ugoh T, Indianapolis Colts 09/17/08, Time: 3:36 pm
 Status:
Out
News: Ugoh is not expected to play in the Colts game in Week 3.
 Analysis:

Another hit to the O-line. Ugoh protects Peyton Manning's blind side. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 09/17/08, Time: 3:24 pm
 Status:
Probable
News: Tomlinson was held out of practice Wednesday to rest his injured toe.
 Analysis:

He'll be in the backfield Monday night, no worries. (Marc Pruitt/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Bob Sanders DB, Indianapolis Colts 09/17/08, Time: 9:56 am
News: Updating previous reports, Sanders suffered the dreaded high ankle sprain during Sunday's game and will be lost to the Colts for 4-6 weeks. He will also undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee during his recovery period. This is a huge loss to Indianapolis and their team defense. Sanders is one of the hardest hitters in the league and is instrumental in stopping the run. Downgrade the Colts defense for the next two months. However, on the bright side, if you have a starting running back that's facing them, go right ahead and pencil him into your lineup now.
Player: LaDainian Tomlinson RB, San Diego Chargers 09/16/08, Time: 10:20 pm
 Status:
Cold
News: Turf toe limited Tomlinson to just 26 rushing yards on 10 carries and two catches for 14 more.
 Analysis:

All owners can do right now is worry and probably start him again in Week 3. If you can afford to, though, it might not be a bad idea to bench Tomlinson for a game. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Dwight Freeney DE, Indianapolis Colts 09/16/08, Time: 5:54 am
 Status:
Hot
News: Freeney produced a sack for the second straight game and forced a fumble in the victory over the Vikings.
 Analysis:

He could be worth playing again in Week 3 as well, as Freeney notched two sacks in his lone meeting with the Jaguars last season -- despite collecting just 3.5 total over nine games. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)

Player: Shaun Phillips LB, San Diego Chargers 09/15/08, Time: 9:55 pm
 Status:
Questionable
News: Phillips came out of Sunday's loss with a strained groin. There's no word yet on his availability for Week 3.
 Analysis:

Phillips managed just two total tackles and a pass breakup last week after eight solos in the first game. His value generally relies on his pass-rush ability, which we'll have to believe is hurt by the absence of Shawne Merriman on the other side until he disproves that. Phillips is a decent IDP, though, and can remain in lineups in relatively deep leagues if he's healthy. (Matt Schauf/SportsBuff.com)
