DE Neal rejoins Packers after 4-game suspension
October 6, 2012
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The Green Bay Packers have activated defensive end Mike Neal, who was suspended for the first four weeks of the season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
Neal was suspended March 13 after testing positive for the prescription drug Adderall. He'd been prescribed the drug, used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy, by a doctor and didn't realize it was on the NFL's banned substance list.
Neal was allowed to practice and play in the preseason. But he had to leave the team after the final exhibition game Aug. 30 and begin serving his four-game suspension.
To make room for Neal on the 53-man roster, the Packers waived end Phillip Merling.
