Bryant among rookies at Browns camp

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - The Browns are giving Armonty Bryant another chance.

Bryant, arrested last week for driving under the influence in Oklahoma, was among 49 players participating Friday on the first day of a three-day rookie minicamp.

The seventh-round draft pick was on the field along with first-round pick Barkevious Mingo, third-rounder Leon McFadden and others as coach Rob Chudzinski and Cleveland's coaching staff got their first look at the team's newest players. Bryant pleaded guilty to a DUI charge earlier this week, and there had been speculation about whether he would be released by the team.

The Browns took a risk in drafting the 6-foot-4, 263-pound Bryant, who was arrested on a felony charge last year at East Central Oklahoma for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer on campus.

Bryant was given a deferred one-year jail sentence after pleading no contest to the DUI charge. He is also required to attend a victim impact panel, obtain a substance abuse assessment and pay $1,136 in court costs.

Bryant is expected to speak with the media following practice. Reporters were only permitted to watch 30 minutes of the workout, which began outside but was moved into the team's indoor because of heavy rain.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, whose Pilot Flying J truck-stop chain is under federal investigation for fraud, was on the field watching Cleveland's draft picks, unsigned free agents and others work out. Browns cornerback Joe Haden, outside linebacker Paul Kruger and wide receiver Greg Little were also in attendance.

Kruger and Haden have younger brothers who are getting tryouts with the Browns.

Most of the attention was on Mingo, the LSU pass rusher taken with the No. 6 overall pick.
