2018 NFC East Division Odds

The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will try to do something in 2018 that has not been done in over a decade, and that is win the NFC East in back-to-back seasons. The last team to win the NFC east in consecutive seasons was actually Philadelphia in the early 2000’s, as the Eagles won the NFC East from 2001 to 2004.

In the 13 seasons since, the Eagles have won the division four times, the Cowboys four times, the Giants three times and the Redskins twice. The Eagles are odds-on favorites to win the NFC East in 2018. Let’s look at each team and NFC East predictions.

Odds to Win NFC East- per BetDSI

Philadelphia Eagles -150
Dallas Cowboys +290
Washington Redskins +545
New York Giants +590

Philadelphia Eagles -150

The Eagles will be getting back Carson Wentz from injury and his return should bolster an already very good offense. Wentz was on his way to winning league MVP last season before getting hurt. Nick Foles was really good in place of Wentz, but the Eagles are a better team with Wentz under center.

Philadelphia is loaded offensively and they actually could be better, as they added the best tight end in the NFL Draft in Dallas Goedert. He will team with Zach Ertz to give Philly even more options in the red zone. The Philadelphia defense should be just as good as it was a year ago when they were 4th in the NFL in fewest points allowed.

Dallas Cowboys +290

The Cowboys went 9-7 last season and missed the playoffs. It was a huge disappointment for Dallas, as they were touted before the season as possible Super Bowl contenders. Dallas will have a different look in 2018, as gone is Dez Bryant and Jason Witten.

The good news for Dallas is that they have Ezekiel Elliott who should be primed for a big season in 2018 after missing six games last season due to suspension. The Cowboys inexplicably still have Jason Garrett as their head coach, so it is hard to get too excited about Dallas’ chances of winning the division this season.

Washington Redskins +545

The Redskins decided not to pay Kirk Cousins so in comes Alex Smith. There may not be much of a difference in production, although there will be a difference in style. Cousins was not afraid to throw the ball deep and take chances, while Smith is more of a controlled passer who avoids mistakes.

Washington could have an improved running game if rookie Derrius Guice wins the job as expected. The big key for Washington will be improving a defense that was just 28th in the league last season in points allowed.

New York Giants +590

The Giants made a big splash in the NFL Draft by taking Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. If he is as good as advertised, the Giants should be vastly improved this season. They still have Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning is a decent quarterback when he isn’t under constant pressure.

The Giants went out and got Manning some help on the offensive line as they brought in Will Hernandez and Nate Solder. The Giants were last in the NFL in points scored last season. They will be much better in 2018.

2018 NFC East Predictions

The Eagles are without question the best team in the NFC East. They are better on both sides of the ball than any other team. Philadelphia won 13 games last season and their closest competition was Dallas who won nine games. The Eagles may not win as many games this season simply because it is tough to follow up a Super Bowl season with another great year, but Philadelphia will get Wentz back and they have a dominating defense.

The Giants could be the team that makes the most noise behind the Eagles, as they look to be much better with the addition of Barkley. The Cowboys are a tough team to figure, as they have the talent to give the Eagles a run for the NFC East, but they could just as easily flame out. The Redskins appear to be behind the Giants and Cowboys, but not by much.
