Recap: Jets , Islanders
Date: November 03, 2011 7:00 PM EDT

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Whether they are the Atlanta Thrashers or the Winnipeg Jets, this franchise enjoys its visits to Long Island.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped all 34 shots he faced, and Evander Kane provided all the offense the Jets needed in a 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

The Thrashers-Jets franchise has 20 wins over the Islanders, and 12 have come on the road.

``We just wanted to play our game,' Pavelec said. ``We must have had at least 20 blocked shots, and the guys did a great job in front of me.'

Johnny Oduya and Alexander Burmistrov also scored for the Jets, who have won three of four on their seven-game road trip. Winnipeg will continue its tour of the New York metropolitan area with a game at New Jersey on Saturday and one against the Rangers on Sunday.

Oduya gave the Jets an insurance goal with 3:56 left when he fired an in-close shot past goalie Rick DiPietro.

``It could have been a whole different game in the second period,' Oduya said. ``Our goalies have done a great job.'

Burmistrov added an empty-netter with 2:16 remaining.

``The second period was a bit out of control,' Winnipeg coach Claude Noel said. ``But Pav bounced back. He's been really focused recently, and he held the fort.'

DiPietro made 23 saves for the Islanders, who have lost six straight (0-4-2). New York went 0 for 3 on the power play and didn't give up a man advantage to Winnipeg.

``We gave guys the opportunity to see what they can do,' Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. ``Now, the minutes don't mean anything. We need to win some games.'

The Jets took a 1-0 lead 4:21 in when Kane poked in a rebound for his fifth goal this season. Kane had a chance to double the advantage at 9:13 when he was awarded a penalty shot, but his wrister sailed wide of DiPietro.

The second period was scoreless, despite the Islanders having a 19-6 edge in shots.

``We had our chances. We just couldn't put one in,' Islanders captain Mark Streit said. ``We need to do a better job when we have those opportunities.'

NOTES: Winnipeg defenseman Randy Jones hurt a leg blocking a shot by defenseman Milan Jurcina in the third period. Noel said Jones' status was day-to-day. The Jets blocked 19 shots overall, including four by defenseman Zach Bogosian. ... Al Montoya served as DiPietro's backup in place of Evgeni Nabokov, who is sidelined by an undisclosed injury.
