Recap: Kings , Avalanche
Date: December 21, 2010 9:30 PM EDT

DENVER (AP) - The Los Angeles Kings ended their road trip the way they started it, with an impressive victory against a high-scoring team.

Jonathan Quick stopped 23 shots for his third shutout of the season, Dustin Brown had two goals and two assists, and the Kings beat Colorado 5-0 on Tuesday night to end the Avalanche's six-game winning streak.

``This might have been the best 60 minutes we've played all year,' Quick said.

It came at a good time for the Kings, who won three times on their five-game road trip. All three wins were by five goals, including a 5-0 win at Detroit on Dec. 13.

``Overall this trip was a tough one with the teams we were playing,' Brown said. ``We were a little disappointed in our efforts, especially in St. Louis and Chicago, but looking back, taking three out of five isn't bad.'

Rob Scuderi had a goal and an assist, Brad Richardson scored a goal, and Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty had two assists apiece for the Kings.

Craig Anderson had 27 saves for Colorado, which was shut out for the first time this season. The last time the Avalanche were blanked was a 3-0 loss at Los Angeles on Feb. 13 - a span of 55 games.

``They're probably one of the top-ranked power plays and the highest-scoring offense in the league, and at times they did get pressure, but we still managed to keep the scoring chances to a minimum,' Quick said.

Colorado leads the NHL with 121 goals but couldn't solve Quick or the Kings. Los Angeles didn't give the Avalanche many opportunities, and the chances they had were gobbled up.

``Quickie had to make maybe two really difficult saves, and he made them,' Brown said. ``That might have been our best 60 minutes, especially on the defensive side of the puck.'

The Kings took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Scuderi's first of the season. Anderson saved Scuderi's initial shot from the point, but the puck ricocheted to the right circle where Scuderi picked it up and slid a backhander past Anderson with 7:34 left.

``I think he had three or four shots on that shift,' Kings coach Terry Murray said. ``You keep putting pucks to the net, a lot of traffic, you find a way to get it done.'

It stayed that way until early in the second period. Doughty took a shot from the top of the right circle that Richardson deflected past Anderson with the blade of his stick to make it 2-0 with 13:29 remaining.

It was Richardson's fifth goal, and fourth against Colorado.

``He's a bit of an Avs killer, I guess,' Brown said.

Both goalies made big saves. Quick stopped Matt Duchene on a chance midway through the second, and Anderson made key stops late in the period. The last came on Kopitar's shot from the left with a minute remaining in the period.

Duchene nearly spoiled the shutout midway through the third but his wrist shot from the left circle rattled off the post. Quick covered the rebound.

``Their goalie played very well for them,' Duchene said. ``He made some huge saves, and they got some bounces, too. It's a tough loss.'

Brown iced the game with two goals in the third period, his 12th and 13th. Justin Williams scored a power-play goal with 2:11 left, his 12th goal of the season.

``We didn't dictate the type of game that we wanted,' Colorado coach Joe Sacco said. ``They did.'

NOTES: St. Louis is the only team that hasn't been shut out this season. ... Brown has 22 points in 20 games. ... The Avalanche had scored at least three goals in their previous eight games. ... Scuderi's goal was his first since Oct. 4, 2008, when he was with Pittsburgh.
