Recap: Kings , Stars
Date: January 17, 2009 2:00 PM EDT

DALLAS (AP) -A flurry of fancy moves didn't yield positive results for Mike Ribeiro in his previous shootout attempt.

So he decided a different approach was needed.

It paid off when Ribeiro scored the lone goal in the shootout, Marty Turco stopped all three shots he saw in the tiebreaker and the Dallas Stars beat Los Angeles 3-2 Saturday to extend the Kings' skid to four.

The Stars center put the puck between his legs and didn't get close to scoring on a backhanded attempt during a shootout Thursday, which ended in a Dallas loss.

Ribeiro wanted to keep things simple this time.

``I wanted to make sure to get a shot on net,' Ribeiro said. ``Goalies don't really know what I'm going to do, and neither do I. I just decided to shoot it.'

Ribeiro, Dallas' first skater in the shootout, beat Erik Ersberg with a wrist shot to put the Stars ahead.

Turco stopped Alexander Frolov, made a glove save on Dustin Brown and then turned away Jack Johnson's attempt.

Dallas bounced back after a blowing a three-goal lead before losing to Buffalo two days ago.

``Instead of going the wrong way, we regrouped and played a solid 65 minutes,' Stars defenseman Darryl Sydor said. ``We had a lot of opportunities and we were able to come up with the extra point in the shootout.'

Jere Lehtinen had a goal and an assist for the Stars, who played their fourth straight overtime game and ninth in 14 overall. Ribeiro had Dallas' other goal.

``They play hard. They defend hard,' Lehtinen said. ``It's tough finding space to score goals. It was a battle.'

Brown had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles. Frolov scored with 16.9 seconds left to send the game into overtime for the Kings, who have been outscored 15-4 in their losing streak.

Turco made 20 saves, and Ersberg stopped 32 shots.

``It's a better result,' Brown said. ``But I don't think it was the result we wanted.'

The Stars looked as if they won the game in regulation on Ribeiro's goal with 1:12 left. Sydor threw the puck toward the net, and Ribeiro tipped it in to give the Stars a 2-1 lead.

Immediately after the score, Dallas' Steve Ott and Johnson were called for roughing penalties. Ersberg left the ice, giving the Kings a 4-on-3 advantage for the final minute. Frolov's goal forced overtime.

``There is such a thing as a good point,' Los Angeles coach Terry Murray said. ``We were playing with a little less confidence. We were more assertive and more aggressive (Saturday).'

The Kings entered 29th in the league in goals. Their scoring slump continued as they only had 22 shots on goal in a game that was scoreless after two periods.

Kyle Calder made a cross-ice pass to Brown, who beat Turco from the right circle to give the Kings the lead at 6:45 of the third.

Lehtinen weaved between two defenders and beat Ersberg from the bottom of the right circle to tie it with 8:31 left.

That set up the frantic final minutes of regulation.

The Stars have played 14 overtime games, equaling the total they played last season. They are 7-7 in those games.

Notes: Los Angeles D Drew Doughty, the second overall pick in last year's draft, was back in the lineup after missing a game with a bruised thigh. ... Ott played in his 300th career game. ... Frolov scored the 300th point of his career.
