Recap: Maple Leafs , Canadiens
Date: October 22, 2011 7:00 PM EDT

MONTREAL (AP) - The Toronto Maple Leafs kept driving to the net and it paid off with both the tying and winning goals.

Mikhail Grabovski scored 1:23 into overtime to give Toronto a 5-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

Grabovski took John-Michael Liles' pass at the side of the Montreal net and turned around to fire a shot past Carey Price for the winner.

Nikolai Kulemin drew the Maple Leafs even for the third time at 13:07 of the third, tying it at 4 when he put away a loose puck in the Canadiens' crease on a goal that was originally credited to Grabovski.

``We had some good scrambles in front and ended up getting some goals,' linemate Clarke MacArthur said. ``Grabo made just a great play at the end. He's not afraid to take it to the net there and gets rewarded, so a great job.'

Phil Kessel got his eighth goal of the season, and David Steckel and Dion Phaneuf scored power-play goals for Toronto, which trailed 1-0, 2-1 and 4-3.

Michael Cammalleri and Travis Moen scored earlier in the third for the Canadiens, who have lost five in a row.

``Obviously, they battled hard,' Moen said. ``It's disappointing to get the lead and then they get one back. It showed great perseverance to come out and get the next one. We didn't really let down. We stayed positive on the bench and we fought for every square inch on that ice.'

Montreal did not lose as many as four straight last season and had not lost five in a row since going 0-4-1 from Dec. 10-17, 2009.

``I like a lot of things about how we played,' Cammalleri said. ``I think that if we play a little bit better game Monday night than we did tonight then we'll probably end up successful.'

Moen scored twice in the game, including a short-handed goal 1:51 in to give Montreal a 1-0 lead. Andrei Kostitsyn beat Jonas Gustavsson on the first shot the Toronto backup faced after taking over from starter James Reimer to begin the second.

Gustavsson made 15 saves the rest of the way.

``No matter what, you always have to be ready,' said Gustavsson, who made his first start of the season Thursday in a 6-2 loss at Boston. ``It could happen at any time so you always try to be ready.'

Reimer left the game after stopping nine of 10 shots in the first. Canadiens captain Brian Gionta collided with Reimer early in the first. There was no update on the Toronto starter's condition.

``He just didn't feel right,' Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson said.

Cammalleri, who played his 500th game, took P.K. Subban's long cross-ice pass at the Toronto blue line and beat Gustavsson 1:27 into the third with a slap shot from the top of the left circle.

Moen was awarded his second of the game on a scoring change when he got credit for deflecting Josh Gorges' floating shot from the left boards past Gustavsson on the go-ahead goal 9:28 into the third, just moments after Price made a sprawling save on a Toronto power play to prevent the Canadiens from falling behind.

Price stopped 22 shots as he came up short in his fifth straight bid for his 100th win.

The Canadiens went 0 for 4 on the power play. Montreal has scored only twice in 29 opportunities with the man advantage.

The Canadiens got a boost from their penalty killers early as Moen got his stick on Steckel's pass back to the point to set up a 2-on-1 rush with Lars Eller. Moen took a feed from Eller in the Maple Leafs' zone and drove in to put a backhand past Reimer for his third goal.

Steckel tied it 1-1 on a power play at 7:07. The Toronto center won a faceoff and then cut to the net to deflect Jake Gardiner's point shot past Price for his second goal.

Gustavsson replaced Reimer to start the second, and Kostitsyn fired a wrist shot past him 29 seconds in to put Montreal up 2-1.

Kessel made it a short-lived lead with an unassisted goal 36 seconds later.

Phaneuf gave Toronto its first lead at 3-2 with the Maple Leafs' second power-play goal of the game at 4:19. The Toronto captain got his second of the season when he took Liles' pass and drove a slap shot past Price.

NOTES: Kessel has scored in five of the Leafs' seven games. ... Cammalleri returned to the lineup Thursday after missing three games because of a leg laceration. ... Montreal was penalized twice for too many men on the ice.
