Hawks' Toews brings Cup home to Winnipeg

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews brought the Stanley Cup home to Canada and was greeted by hundreds of fans upon his arrival.

Toews showed off the famous trophy on Friday during a public celebration, and then spent private time with his family.

Hundreds of people lined up for several hours in blazing heat to meet Toews - and admire the Cup - at a community center named after the NHL star.

The crowd screamed and cheered as Toews gingerly carried the Stanley Cup past the crowd. He hoisted it above his head on an outdoor stage and kissed it.

``It's always a pretty special feeling to see the support that I'm lucky to get when I come back to Winnipeg,'' Toews said. ``Obviously, this is an honor to bring this Cup back to my home community center.''

The Blackhawks claimed their second championship in four seasons by beating the Boston Bruins in the finals last month. Toews scored a goal in the clinching Game 6 victory.

Although only 25, Toews has now enjoyed two celebrations back home in Winnipeg, which held a parade in his honor in 2010.

``It was a crazy two days. I don't think I had a spare minute to breathe,'' he said. ``There are a lot of people ... that you have to recognize and share this moment with. Those are the people who helped me get there in the first place.''

Toews is already thinking about bringing the Cup back a third time.

``Every time you win, you want to do it again,'' he said. ``It's really an addictive feeling.''
