Coyotes double-up Ducks, 4-2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -Rookies Kyle Turris and Mikkel Boedker both scored for the first time in the NHL, and Ilya Bryzgalov made 34 saves against his former Anaheim teammates to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-2 victory that spoiled the Ducks' home opener Sunday night.

Shane Doan added a pair of goals for Phoenix, off to a 2-0 start this season. Ryan Carter and George Parros scored for the Ducks (0-2).

Doan's second goal gave Phoenix a 4-2 lead with 3:40 remaining, and Parros capped the scoring just 13 seconds later.

The Coyotes built a 3-0 lead in the second period before Carter scored for Anaheim.

The Ducks' Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 20 shots, but was victimized for two goals by shoddy defensive play.

Turris, who also had an assist, and Boedker provided a glimpse of what the new, youthful Coyotes might bring to the rink. Turris was taken by Phoenix with the third pick in the 2007 draft, and Boedker was selected eighth this year. Still another rookie, former University of Michigan star Kevin Porter, notched his second assist in two games for the Coyotes.

Steven Reinprecht chipped in with two assists.

Phoenix opened its three-goal lead midway through the second period when Turris poked in a shot from near the right post after a scramble in the crease when Giguere tried futilely to smother the puck. It popped out to Turris, who tapped in a backhander at 8:56.

After assisting on the Coyotes' first-period goal, Reinprecht set up another early in the second. He flipped a high pass to Doan breaking behind the defense, and Doan skated down on Giguere, deked to his right at close range, then veered to his left and backhanded a shot inside the left post at 1:51.

Phoenix opened the scoring at 11:40 on Boedker's goal.

On a 2-on-1 rush after a battle for the puck on the boards when Anaheim defensemen Kent Huskins and Travis Moen collided, Reinprecht controlled the puck and skated down the left side. He sent a pass to Boedker, who sliced to his left past defenseman Steve Montador and beat Giguere stick side.

Anaheim center Rob Niedermayer left the game with a bruised leg in the first period and didn't return.

Notes: Bryzgalov had 28 saves in the Coyotes' opening 3-1 win over Columbus. Giguere had 37 saves but gave up four goals in a 4-1 loss at San Jose in the Ducks' season opener. Bryzgalov is 4-1-1 in six starts against Anaheim. ... The home opener was a sellout, the Ducks' 78th straight full house at home including 66 regular season and 12 playoff games in Anaheim. ... The Ducks were 28-9-4 in Anaheim last season, their best home mark in the regular season. ... Anaheim D Scott Niedermayer, who missed the first part of last season while he was considering retirement, is the team captain this season. D Chris Pronger served as captain last season while Niedermayer was out.
