WSOP - Event 46, Double Down

Event #46
Seven-Card Stud High-Low (Eight-or-Better)
Buy-In: $1,000
Number of Entries: 668
Total Prize Money: $607,880
Date of Tournament: June 28-30, 2007

The winner of the $1,000 buy-in Seven-Card Stud High-Low championship was Tom Schneider, from Scottsdale, AZ. He is a 47-year-old poker player and author. This was his second victory at the World Series of Poker, and second gold bracelet won this year. He previously prevailed in the mixed-game event (Omaha High-Low and Seven-Card Stud).

Schneider’s victory means that the WSOP will have crowned a double-gold bracelet winner in each of the last four years. Despite the huge tournament fields, at least one player at each World Series in recent years was able to break through the ranks. Duel-winners in recent years include Scott Fischman (2004), Mark Seif (2005), Bill Chen and Jeff Madsen (2006), and now Tom Schneider in 2007.

Schneider not only wrote a poker book called “Oops, I won Too Much Money!” he also hosts a regular radio show on poker.

The winner was cheered on by his wife. They have three children.

Schneider holds a degree in accounting and finance from Arizona State University.

Remarkably, Schneider has cashed three times at this year’s WSOP. All three were final table appearances. Two were outright victories. The runner up in this event was Hoyt Verner, from Melbourne Beach, FL. Verner made it to the final table of this event last year, as well. 1998 world poker champion Scotty “the Prince” Nguyen finished in fourth place. This was his second final table appearance this year. He took second in the previous Seven-Card Stud (Eight-or-Better) event.

Former WSOP gold bracelet winner Tony Ma finished in sixth place.

Other former WSOP gold bracelet winners who cashed in this event include – Doug Saab (13), Frank Henderson (14), O’Neil Longson (19), Dan Heimiller (29), and Jeffrey Lisandro (62).
