MLS suspends Crew F Arrieta 2 games

NEW YORK (AP) - Columbus Crew forward Jairo Arrieta has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed sum for violent play in a game against the Colorado Rapids last weekend.

Arrieta was penalized for swinging his left arm back and hitting Colorado defender Drew Moor in the face while awaiting a long pass from the backfield in the 18th minute of the Rapids' 2-0 win on Saturday. After Moor was hit on the left side of his face by Arrieta's hand with the ball approaching, the defender turned his head and was hit on the right side by the ball.

Arrieta, who was issued a yellow card on the play, is appealing the second game of the suspension and will sit out Columbus' game at Toronto FC on Saturday.
