Thompson, who entered the game as a substitute for forward Dominic Oduro in the second half, scored his second goal of the season on a header from 7 yards away.

Eric Avila setup the score with a crossing pass from 25 yards away on the left side to Thompson who angled a header into the right corner of the net.

Scott Sealy's second goal of the year in the 39th minute snapped a 448-minute span where no Kansas City (4-5-5) player had scored a goal. Sealy took a pass from Claudio Lopez and dribbled a few steps past FC Dallas defender Drew Moor before firing a left-footed shot from 15 yards away for a 1-0 Wizards' lead.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) - Tom McManus and Mehdi Ballouchy scored goals in the first half and the Rapids cruised to a victory over the Red Bulls.

Colin Clark added a goal in the 49th minute and speedy Jamaican Omar Cummings came off the bench to seal the game with a goal in the 68th minute.

The Rapids (6-8-1) had scored only four goals during a four-game winless streak.

New York (5-5-5) entered the game with only one loss in its previous five games.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Adam Cristman scored two goals in a 4-minute span to give the Revolution a victory over the Galaxy.

The Revolution (10-4-3) used the victory to extend their lead in the Eastern Conference to seven points over second-place Columbus.

David Beckham scored his fifth goal of the season for the Galaxy (6-6-3), which saw its winless streak extend to three games.
