Cristman scores twice to give Revolution win

CARSON, Calif. (AP) -Adam Cristman scored two goals in a 4-minute span to give the New England Revolution a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday night.

The Revolution (10-4-3) used the victory to extend their lead in the Eastern Conference to seven points over second-place Columbus.

``We've still got a lot more to come from this team,'' Revolution coach Steve Nicol said. ``I don't think we've played our best. We're starting to pass the ball a lot better and put teams under pressure.''

David Beckham scored his fifth goal of the season for the Galaxy (6-6-3), which saw its winless streak extend to three games.

``It's always frustrating to concede goals, especially when you concede them early, `` Beckham said. ``It puts you on the back foot and you're always chasing the game.''

Cristman scored his first goal in the 33rd minute. Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin stopped Shalrie Joseph's 14-yard header off Maurcio Castro's corner kick, but Cristman pounced on the rebound and converted from three yards.

In the 37th minute, Cristman scored his career-high sixth goal of the season with an 8-yard header off Steve Ralston's corner kick.

Beckham narrowed the deficit in the 65th minute on a 15-yard volley that deflected off Revolution defender Michael Parkhurst.

Los Angeles had a chance to tie the score in the 77th minute, but Edson Buddle's 12-yard shot off Beckham's crossing pass from the right flank hit the crossbar.

``We created a lot of chances but we were giving the ball away so easily,'' Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit said. ``That is the main problem for this team. We need to find players who can keep the ball for us in midfield.''

The Galaxy's Landon Donovan, who had the flu earlier this week, entered the game in the 46th minute.

Los Angeles' Chris Klein established a MLS record with his 100th consecutive start. Revolution defender Jay Heaps set a team record by making his 200th career start.

The Revolution's Taylor Twellman sprained his right ankle May 11 against Chivas USA.
