After helping Florida State defeated Wake Forest 59-3 on Nov. 9, quarterback Jameis Winston was tabbed this year’s Heisman Trophy frontrunner by the offshore sports betting outfit Sportsbook.ag but that was before the recent allegations surrounding the signal caller and a sexual battery case.
Jameis Winston (Florida State) 1/8
A.J. McCarron (Alabama) 5/1
Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M) 5/1
Bryce Petty (Baylor) 15/1
Marcus Mariota (Oregon) 40/1
Jordan Lynch (Northern Illinois) 50/1
Braxton Miller (Ohio State) 50/1
Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville) 50/1
Derek Carr (Fresno State) 75/1
Tajh Boyd (Clemson) 100/1
Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina) 200/1
Four days later on Nov. 13, a representative for Florida State University issued a statement saying, “"We are aware of a matter that was investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department almost a year ago. Because the investigation has not been closed by TPD, we cannot comment further at this time. We look forward to a speedy resolution of the issue. There is no change in Jameis Winston's status."
When the statement was released by FSU, Sportsbook.ag lowered his odds to 1/4 (Bet $100 to win $25) from 1/8 (Bet $100 to win $12.50).
On Thursday Nov. 21, another story was reported that said a DNA analysis completed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Tuesday confirmed that DNA provided by the Florida State quarterback (Jameis Winston) matched the sample taken from the underwear of the woman who has accused him of sexual battery.
After the story circulated, Sportsbook.ag made more adjustments to their Heisman Trophy Odds. Winston is still the 1/2 (Bet $100 to win $50) favorite but current Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel (3/2) has become the second choice. Another quarterback out of Texas to keep an eye on is Baylor's Bryce Petty, who had his odds dropped from 15/1 to 5/1.
