INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -The Minnesota Lynx scored 100 points in a game just once in their first 10 years, then nearly did it on consecutive nights to start this season.

Charde Houston scored a career-high 23 points, and the Lynx beat the Indiana Fever 96-74 on Sunday night.

Minnesota shot a team-record 63 percent from the field and never trailed, one night after a 102-85 win over Chicago. Coach Jennifer Gillom told her team after that game to expect a tougher challenge on Sunday because Indiana traditionally has one of the league's top defensive teams.

``That was a motivator for us,' Gillom said. ``I told them the real test was going to be tomorrow. We're playing against the best defense in the league.'

The Fever fell far short of matching their reputation. Minnesota led 34-19 at the end of the first quarter after shooting 13 for 14 from the field and making all six of its free throws. The 92.9-percent shooting was the second-best accuracy in a quarter in league history, and it was the most points the Fever had ever allowed in a quarter.

``It's a matter of getting these girls to play to the best of their ability,' Gillom said. ``They feel confident right now. They feel like they can conquer the world. I hope they can keep that mentality throughout the season.'

Houston said the team has quickly adjusted to Gillom, a first-year head coach who was an assistant under Don Zierden last season. Zierden resigned a few days before the start of the season to take a job in the NBA.

``It has been an easy transition because it's somebody on staff,' Houston said. ``She is a good motivator, and we like playing for her.'

Seimone Augustus scored 19 points, Nicky Anosike scored 17 and Candice Wiggins added 10 for Minnesota (2-0).

Yolanda Griffith scored 17 points and Katie Douglas added 16 for Indiana (0-2), which had lost its season opener 87-86 in double overtime Saturday night in Atlanta.

Indiana allowed its highest field-goal percentage ever.

``We were flat the whole game,' Indiana coach Lin Dunn said. ``For a while, I thought we were still on the airplane.'

Minnesota led 60-38 at halftime. It was the second-most points a WNBA team had scored in a first half.

Minnesota led by as many as 27 points in the third quarter and led 78-55 at the end of the period.

The Lynx were above the league record for field-goal percentage for most of the second half, but hit a dry spell in the final minutes when Gillom put reserves in the game.

Indiana didn't expect the tough opening weekend after going 3-0 in the preseason.

``We didn't plan on starting 0-2,' Griffith said. ``But we're going to come back tomorrow and work hard and not dwell on it. We've got 32 more games to play this year, We could run off 15 in a row, you just never know. We are not going to worry about these two games.'
