ATLANTA (AP) - Becky Hammon loves the intensity Jia Perkins brings in her first season with the San Antonio Silver Stars.

``Not only is she a good scorer, but she's someone that gets a lot of people involved and has rebounded like crazy these last few games,' Hammon said. ``We just need her to keep being productive.'

Perkins scored 25 points, rookie Danielle Adams added 19 and San Antonio beat the Atlanta Dream 92-86 Sunday to improve to an WNBA best 6-1 and the best start in its 15-year history.

``Rebounding towards the end was a big key for us,' said Perkins, an eighth-year guard who was acquired in a trade with Chicago in April.

``They started attacking and getting in foul trouble, but then we switched up defensive schemes and were able to execute and get some stops when needed them.'

Coco Miller finished with 19 points and Angel McCoughtry had 15 for the Dream (2-7), losers of two straight.

Atlanta blew a seven-point lead it had after Miller's free throw with 5:02 remaining.

``I thought our effort was absolutely perfect,' Dream coach Marynell Meadors said. ``In the last two minutes, we had a chance to win the game, but we just didn't win the game.'

The Silver Stars never trailed after Hammon drew a foul from Courtney Paris and hit a pair of three throws for an 81-79 lead with 1:53 left in the game.

Hammon, who scored 17 points and had six assists, hit a 3-pointer midway through the second quarter for a nine-point lead, the Silver Stars' biggest of the game.

The six-time All-Star credits improved defense with team's strong start this season.

``We're not going to overwhelm people with our talent and athleticism or whatever, but we have a lot of people that play well together,' Hammon said. ``So that's our key.'

Perkins, who scored 31 points in a win Friday over Los Angeles, began San Antonio's comeback with a 3-pointer from the left arc that cut the Dream's lead to 78-74.

Adams' three-point play with 2:23 had tied the game at 79, and her putback 1:06 later gave San Antonio an 83-81 lead.

``Offensively, Adams gave us timely scoring,' Sliver Stars coach Dan Hughes said. ``(Danielle) Robinson came in, got to the foul line and converted. Becky Hammon and Sophia Young were points we could play to. And then Jia was really the piece that set us apart.'

Adams left the game on the next possession after taking an elbow to the eye from McCoughtry. She lay on the floor for a couple of minutes before walking to the bench and watching the rest of the game.

Hughes said he believes Adams ``will be OK.' She caused several matchup problems for Atlanta for the second time this season. On June 11, she finished with 32 points and seven rebounds in a 12-point victory.

``When she puts the ball on the floor, it's hard to guard her since she is such a big player,' Meadors said. ``She played great tonight.'

Paris had 11 rebounds for the Dream.
