MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Lynx are making sure point guard Lindsay Whalen stays home for a while.
The Lynx signed Whalen to a multi-year contract extension on Friday. The 10-year veteran is having one of her finest seasons. She is averaging a career-high 14.7 points and 6.0 assists to help the Lynx to the best record in the WNBA (23-7).
The Hutchinson native and University of Minnesota alum has led the Lynx to the WNBA finals in each of the last two seasons, including the franchise's first title in 2011.
Lynx COO Roger Griffith calls the 31-year-old Whalen ``a franchise cornerstone'' and ``the top point guard in the league.''
Minnesota plays its final regular-season game on Sept. 14 before heading to the WNBA playoffs.
