Swin Cash happy to be in New York

NEW YORK (AP) - Swin Cash had a lot of success with Bill Laimbeer when they were in Detroit.

Now that she has reunited with her former coach in New York, the veteran forward hopes to bring some of that success to the Liberty.

''It's funny. Bill gave me a laundry list of things he wanted, and I looked and it was like just basically be myself,'' Cash said.

The Liberty acquired Cash from Atlanta on Wednesday in a trade for Delisha Milton-Jones. Cash spent six seasons playing for Laimbeer in Detroit, winning the WNBA title in 2006.

''She really will bring energy to us and will help us defensively,'' Laimbeer said. ''It helps that she already knows a lot of the systems we run.''

Cash was somewhat surprised when she got the call that she had been traded again.

''There was chatter, but things had died down,'' she said. ''I got comfortable in Atlanta, and I really just tried to help them win. You get the call and are like, `Huh?'''

It's been a busy few months for Cash, who has been traded twice. She was with Chicago before the Sky sent her to Atlanta.

''It's kind of crazy. There's been a lot going on in the last six months,'' Cash said. ''It felt good, felt comfortable. I know New York wanted me here, and they were welcoming from the start.''

Cash looked up at the banners at the Liberty practice facility when she arrived and saw their last Eastern Conference title came in 2002 - the year she entered the league. She hopes that she can change that.

Cash had four points in 13 minutes in her debut on Friday night in New York's 68-54 loss to Los Angeles.

''I'm going to do what I can to help them,'' Cash said. ''The East is still somewhat wide open with a lot of teams all around the same in the hunt.''
