Sparks reacquire Milton-Jones
April 22, 2008
LOS ANGELES (AP) -All-Star DeLisha Milton-Jones is coming back to the Los Angeles Sparks in a trade with the Washington Mystics for Taj McWilliams-Franklin and the Sparks' 2009 first-round draft pick.
Milton-Jones played six seasons in Los Angeles, helping the team to consecutive WNBA championships in 2001 and '02. She was drafted by the Sparks in the first round in 1999.
The forward averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season for the Mystics. She was traded to Washington in 2005.
McWilliams-Franklin averaged 11.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists last season, her first with the Sparks. The center was acquired from the Connecticut Sun to help fill the vacancy left by Lisa Leslie, who had a baby in June.
``DeLisha is a very good defensive player and I'm sure she'll bring the same intensity to the Sparks this time as she did the first time,'' Sparks coach Michael Cooper said. ``We'll miss what Taj brought to the team, but wish her all the best in Washington.''
The Sparks open the season May 17 against the defending champion Phoenix Mercury.
