CHICAGO (AP) -Candice Dupree scored 18 points, Jia Perkins and Dominique Canty each had 14, and the Chicago Sky snapped a five-game losing streak with a 76-59 victory over the Detroit Shock on Saturday night.
Chasity Melvin added 10 points and eight rebounds as the Sky (4-9) beat the Shock for the first time in Chicago. It was their first victory since beating Atlanta 91-70 on June 7.
``We have a good team. We can win a lot more games than our record shows,'' Chicago coach Steven Key said. ``They did a great job of rebounding and communicating on defense.''
Shay Murphy scored 13 points and Alexis Hornbuckle had 11 for the Shock (11-5), who dropped a game behind Connecticut for the Eastern Conference lead.
``Our effort was obnoxious,'' Detroit coach Bill Laimbeer said. ``It was embarrassing. It won't happen again.''
Detroit guard Katie Smith had seven points and three assists, moving past Andrea Stinson (810) for 10th on the WNBA's career assists list, but picked up back-to-back technical fouls and was ejected with 7:54 remaining after arguing a reach-in foul call.
Trailing 44-31 at halftime, Detroit pulled to 46-36 on a baseline jumper from Smith. But Chicago responded with two free throws from Dupree, a three-pointer from Brooke Wyckoff and two free throws from Melvin to push the lead to 17.
A short baseline jumper from Deanna Nolan capped an 8-2 Shock run, but Chicago guard K.B. Sharp's layup with 13 seconds left gave Chicago a 57-44 lead after three quarters.
Chicago outrebounded Detroit 12-2 and led Detroit by as many as seven in the first quarter, as the Shock converted only 33 percent (5-of-15) from the field in the opening 10 minutes.
Dupree made back-to-back layups and Melvin scored on consecutive possessions after a Detroit timeout as Chicago rolled off a 13-3 run to open the second quarter and take a 33-18 lead.
