CHICAGO (AP) -Jia Perkins scored 15 points to lead five players in double figures and the Chicago Sky beat Connecticut 73-65 on Friday night, sending the Sun to their fifth straight loss.
Chasity Melvin scored 13, K.B. Sharp had 12, Candice Dupree had 11 and rookie Quianna Chaney added a career-high 10 for Chicago (7-14), which won for just the second time in seven games.
``That's exactly what we need,'' Perkins said. ``We have to have scoring from different spots because it's going to be hard for teams to focus on Candice and I and (Melvin).''
Asjha Jones scored 18 for the Sun (13-10), who have lost five consecutive road games. Tamika Whitmore scored 13 and Sandrine Gruda added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Connecticut, which lost to the Sky for the second time in nine games.
Perkins scooped in a layup with 22.2 seconds remaining to give the Sky a 71-65 lead, and K.B. Sharp added two free throws with 8.2 seconds left.
After Perkins made two free throws to tie the game at 60, Chicago regained the lead on a 3-pointer from Sharp. Dupree's jumper with 2:48 left gave the Sky a 68-65 advantage. Melvin's free throw with 53.2 seconds to go extended Chicago's lead to four.
Connecticut ``stayed with it and kept fighting,'' Perkins said. ``We answered back though, when they made the run and I think we have to look to do that more.''
The Sun took a 60-58 lead on consecutive jumpers from Jones and Gruda.
Down 54-41 with four minutes left in the third quarter, the Sun finished the period on a 15-2 run to cut its deficit to four going into the fourth.
``I'm not into moral victories right now,'' Connecticut coach Mike Thibault said. ``I am happy that we played harder than the first half but right now we need to finish the thing.''
Chaney came off the bench in the second quarter and scored eight points during a 10-5 Chicago run to give the Sky a 26-15 lead. Chicago extended its lead to 34-20 using an 8-3 run and finished the first half up 42-28.
Chicago starting point guard Dominique Canty underwent arthroscopic surgery on her left knee Friday after injuring it during the Sky's July 13 win over Atlanta. She is expected be out three or four weeks.
