Detroit signs guard Ashley Shields

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -The Detroit Shock signed free-agent guard Ashley Shields to a seven-day contract on Tuesday.
The Houston Comets selected the 5-foot-10-inch Shields out of Southwest Tennessee Community College with the eighth overall pick in the 2007 draft. She played in 26 games for the Comets last season, averaging 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds.
Shields was waived by Houston on June 27.
