Margo Dydek signs with Sparks
August 27, 2008
LOS ANGELES (AP) -Margo Dydek, the 7-foot-2 center who holds the WNBA record for blocked shots with 811, signed with the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old center, the first overall pick in the 1998 WNBA draft by the Utah Starzz, has averaged 10 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots in 289 career games.
``Margo is a veteran who brings experience and solid defensive presence to our frontcourt,'' Sparks coach Michael Cooper said in a statement issued Wednesday. ``She's a good, seasoned vet that can block shots, rebound and finish.''
The Sparks play for the first time since the Olympic break on Thursday night, facing the Sacramento Monarchs in the first of three home games in a five-day span.
