How to read CFL Global Money Line Odds

If your team wins, you win!

A CFL money line wager means you’re simply picking a side. The betting term Against the Spread (ATS) is not necessary for these types of wagers since the spread is not a factor.

Similar to our Spread and 1st Half Odds, every matchup is listed in order of Rotation and those numbers are preceded by the Date and Time of the CFL game, every matchup is listed in order of Rotation and those numbers are preceded by the Date and Time of the CFL game.

The Rotation for CFL games typically lists them by scheduled starting time as there are normally no more than three games in a day. Home teams are listed at the bottom and will therefore be your even-numbered squad.

The numbers next to the teams are based on a scale where $100 is the key figure. Favorites are the teams with the minus (-) sign next to their figure, which represents what it would take to win yourself $100 with the favored group. The team in the Underdog role has the plus (+) symbol next to the amount you would be able to win by wagering $100.

In this example, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were listed as a 6-point favorite against the Montreal Alouettes. Looking at this from a money-line standpoint, Winnipeg is a -270 favorite to win the game straight-up, compared to Montreal at +185 to win the contest.

Winnipeg -270 (Bet $100 to win $37)
Montreal +215 (Bet $100 to win $215)

That number is set by oddsmakers after the spread is established but changes throughout the week based on the amount of money coming in on bets.

How to bet CFL Global Money Line Odds

For the most part, many games in the CFL have spreads of 10 or less, so money-line favorites can range from -120 to -500, depending on the closing pointspread. On the flip side, underdogs can close at +105 all the way to +430 if it is a 10-point 'dog, making for a nice payout if the 'dog wins outright.

Instead of taking the points, sometimes grabbing the money-line when the two teams aren't far off in talent isn't a bad strategy.

In 2019, Calgary was coming off a Grey Cup title but suffered several injuries early on. The Stampeders were listed as a five-point road underdog at Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan -240 (Bet $240 to win $100, Betting $100 wins only $41.70)
Calgary +190 (Bet $100 to win $190)

Calgary ended up winning that game rather easily, 37-10, so going with the outright underdog winner can be beneficial.
