Sunday’s NCAA Basketball Tip Sheet for Feb. 23, Big 10 and Big East Best Bets

This Sunday’s college basketball betting board is filled with some great matchups in the Big Ten and Big East. The following trio of games are highlighted in this betting report.

Getting things started early Sunday afternoon, the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions go on the road to battle the Indiana Hoosiers. Later in a pair of 4 p.m. (ET) starts, the No. 7 Maryland Terrapins will be in Columbus to play the Ohio State Buckeyes. At the same time, the No. 21 Butler Bulldogs face the No. 15 Creighton Bluejays in Omaha.

No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions at Indiana Hoosiers

Betting Matchup

The Lions come into this game off Tuesday’s 62-56 loss to Illinois to snap a straight-up eight-game winning streak. They failed to cover as 5 ½-point home favorites to go 7-1-1 against the spread in the nine-game span. Penn State is 10-5 SU in Big Ten play as part of an overall record of 20-6 (15-9-2 ATS). The total has stayed UNDER in six of its last eight games.

Lamar Stevens is averaging 17.5 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. The senior forward had 13 points with nine rebounds in Tuesday’s loss.

Indiana (17-9 SU, 12-14 ATS) is farther back in the conference standings at 7-8 SU with just two wins in its last seven games (SU and ATS). One of those losses was to Penn State on Jan. 29 in a 64-49 drubbing as a six-point road underdog. The total stayed UNDER 131 ½ points in that loss but it has gone OVER in three of the Hoosiers’ last four games.

Trayce Jackson-Davis scored a career-high 27 points with 16 rebounds in Wednesday’s 68-56 road win against Minnesota.

-- Even with the earlier loss, Indiana is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games against Penn State with the slight 6-4 edge ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in the last two meetings but tied at 5-5 over the last 10 games between the two.

No. 7 Maryland Terrapins at No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes

Betting Matchup

Tuesday’s 76-67 victory at home over Northwestern was the Terrapins’ ninth SU win in a row. They failed to cover as heavy 14-point favorites to slip to 2-3 ATS over the last five games. Maryland (22-4 SU, 14-12 ATS) is 12-3 in conference play as the top team in the standings. It won the first game against Ohio State 67-55 on Jan. 7 as a three-point home favorite. The total has gone OVER in last eight games.

Jalen Smith scored 22 points with a career-high 19 rebounds in Tuesday’s win. This was the sophomore forward’s ninth double-double in a row. The Buckeyes (17-9 SU, 15-11 ATS) slipped below .500 (7-8) in conference play with Thursday’s 85-76 road loss to Iowa as two-point underdogs. They are still 5-2 both SU and ATS over their last seven games. The total has gone OVER in three of their last four games.

Kaleb Wesson leads a trio of players scoring in double figures with 13.9 points per game. The junior forward scored 10 points with seven rebounds in Thursday’s losing cause.

Betting Trends

-- The Terrapins have a SU four-game winning streak on the road with a perfect 5-0 record ATS in the last five road games. The total has gone OVER in three of those four games in the current run.

-- The Buckeyes are 8-2 SU with a 7-3 record ATS in their last 10 home games. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last four games at home.

-- With Maryland’s win in early January, it improved to 7-3 both SU and ATS in its last 10 games against Ohio State. The total has gone OVER in four of the last six games between the two teams.

No. 21 Butler Bulldogs at No. 15 Creighton Bluejays

Betting Matchup

Wednesday’s tight 74-72 road loss at the buzzer to Seton Hall as 5 ½-point underdogs dropped the Bulldogs to an even 7-7 in Big East play. They are 2-4 SU in their last six games and this was just the second time they covered in their last 11 games. Butler (19-8 SU, 13-12-2 ATS) did beat Creighton 71-57 as a 4 ½-point home favorite back on Jan. 4. The total has gone OVER in three of its last five games.

Senior guard Kamar Baldwin (16.3 points) scored 20 points in Wednesday’s losing effort.

Creighton continues to make a strong push towards the Big East regular season title at 10-4. It is 4-0 SU and ATS in its last four games with Tuesday’s 73-65 road win against Marquette as a 3 ½-point underdog. The Bluejays are 21-6 SU overall with a 15-9-2 record ATS. The total stayed UNDER 156 points in that last game after going OVER or ending as a PUSH in seven of their previous nine outings.

Ty-Shon Alexander scored 22 points with Marcus Zegarowski adding 17 points against Marquette.

-- The Bulldogs have lost eight of their last 10 road games as underdogs but they are an even 5-5 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six games on the road as underdogs.
