NCAA Basketball Wednesday’s Betting Preview and Odds for Big East and Atlantic 10 Matchups

Wednesday night’s highlighted betting matchups in the Big East and Atlantic 10 feature three of the top teams in the nation.

Odds to win 2020 Big East Tournament

The first tilt sends the No. 14 Villanova Wildcats across the river to New Jersey to face the No. 8 Seton Hall Pirates. The other game pits the No. 3 Dayton Flyers against the Rhode Island Rams in Kingston.

Betting Matchup

The Wildcats’ recent five-game winning streak (straight-up) came to an end on Saturday in a 58-54 home loss to Providence as 7 ½-point favorites. Prior to that winning streak, they lost to Seton Hall 70-64 as four-point home favorites. Over Villanova’s (22-7 SU, 13-14-2 ATS) last nine conference games, it is 3-5-1 against the spread. The total stayed UNDER in nine of the last 11 outings.

With an average of 73.1 points per game, the roster contains five different players scoring at least 10 points a game. The Wildcats are shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from three-point range.

Seton Hall (13-3) has a two-game lead over Villanova and Creighton for the Big East regular season title heading into its final two games against those two teams. Dayton is two victories away from a perfect SU run through A 10 play. Last Friday’s 82-67 win against Davidson at home raises its SU winning streak to 18 games. The Flyers (27-2 SU, 15-13-1 ATS) covered the 10 ½-point spread on Friday but they are still just 3-6 ATS over their last nine games. The total has stayed UNDER in five of those nine games. Dayton did cover as an 11-point home favorite on Feb. 11 with an 81-67 win against Rhode Island. The total went OVER 147 points.

Against Davidson his last time out, sophomore Obi Toppin scored 23 points with 12 rebounds. He is averaging 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds a game.

The Rams are tied for second place in the conference standings at 12-4 as part of a SU 20-8 (14-13-1 ATS) record overall. They have dropped three of their last five games SU with Sunday’s 72-62 home loss against Saint Louis as six-point favorites. Rhode Island is 2-4-1 ATS in its last seven games with the total with the total staying UNDER in four of the seven outings.

With four different players scoring at least 10 points a game, the Rams have averaged 74.3 PPG. That average has dropped to 70.6 points over the last five games.

-- Rhode Island has the slight 3-2 edge both SU and ATS over the last five meetings even with this year’s earlier loss (SU and ATS). The total has gone OVER in four of the last six games between the two.
