Wednesday night’s highlighted betting matchups in the Big East and Atlantic 10 feature three of the top teams in the nation.

Odds to win 2020 Big East Tournament

The first tilt sends the No. 14 Villanova Wildcats across the river to New Jersey to face the No. 8 Seton Hall Pirates. The other game pits the No. 3 Dayton Flyers against the Rhode Island Rams in Kingston.

Betting Matchup

The Wildcats’ recent five-game winning streak (straight-up) came to an end on Saturday in a 58-54 home loss to Providence as 7 ½-point favorites. Prior to that winning streak, they lost to Seton Hall 70-64 as four-point home favorites. Over Villanova’s (22-7 SU, 13-14-2 ATS) last nine conference games, it is 3-5-1 against the spread. The total stayed UNDER in nine of the last 11 outings.

With an average of 73.1 points per game, the roster contains five different players scoring at least 10 points a game. The Wildcats are shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from three-point range.

Seton Hall (13-3) has a two-game lead over Villanova and Creighton for the Big East regular season title heading into its final two games against those two teams. The Pirates (21-7 SU, 17-10-1 ATS) covered as three-point road underdogs in Saturday’s 88-79 upset over Marquette. This was their second cover in a row as part of a 4-6-1 record ATS in the last 11 games. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven contests.

Myles Powell led the way in Saturday’s win with 28 points. The senior guard is one of the top scorers in the nation with 21.5 PPG.

Betting Trends

-- The Wildcats are 7-3 SU over their last 10 road games with a 6-3-1 record ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of those 10 games.

-- The Pirates have a SU 10-4 record in 14 previous home games this season while going 8-5-1 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 11 games at home.

-- Despite the first loss this year, Villanova has the SU 7-3 edge in its last 10 games against Seton Hall. The Pirates have gone 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings with the total staying UNDER in three of the five games.

Betting Matchup

Dayton is two victories away from a perfect SU run through A 10 play. Last Friday’s 82-67 win against Davidson at home raises its SU winning streak to 18 games. The Flyers (27-2 SU, 15-13-1 ATS) covered the 10 ½-point spread on Friday but they are still just 3-6 ATS over their last nine games. The total has stayed UNDER in five of those nine games. Dayton did cover as an 11-point home favorite on Feb. 11 with an 81-67 win against Rhode Island. The total went OVER 147 points.

Against Davidson his last time out, sophomore Obi Toppin scored 23 points with 12 rebounds. He is averaging 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds a game.

The Rams are tied for second place in the conference standings at 12-4 as part of a SU 20-8 (14-13-1 ATS) record overall. They have dropped three of their last five games SU with Sunday’s 72-62 home loss against Saint Louis as six-point favorites. Rhode Island is 2-4-1 ATS in its last seven games with the total with the total staying UNDER in four of the seven outings.

With four different players scoring at least 10 points a game, the Rams have averaged 74.3 PPG. That average has dropped to 70.6 points over the last five games.

Betting Trends

-- The Flyers are 10-0 SU in their last 10 road games closing as favorites but just 2-5 ATS in the last seven. The total has stayed UNDER in their last three games on the road giving points.

-- The Rams have lost five of their last eight home games as underdogs but they are 5-3 ATS. The total has gone OVER in three of their last four home games as underdogs.

-- Rhode Island has the slight 3-2 edge both SU and ATS over the last five meetings even with this year’s earlier loss (SU and ATS). The total has gone OVER in four of the last six games between the two.
