Odds Subject to Change

The oddsmakers have opened this matchup as a PICK with the betting line for the total set at 138 ½ points.

Texas is off to a straight-up 9-1 start after winning its first three Big 12 games. This includes a big 25-point road win against Kansas as a 4 ½-point underdog.

The Longhorns have failed to cover against the spread in four of their last six games. The total has gone OVER in their last three.

While the series against West Virginia is tied 5-5 SU over the previous 10 meetings, Texas has a 4-1 SU edge in the last five games while going 3-2 ATS.

Road losses to Kansas and Oklahoma have the Mountaineers at 2-2 SU in conference play. They are 9-3 SU overall with an even 6-6 record ATS. The total has gone OVER in four of their last six games.

West Virginia is 6-1 SU with a 4-3 record ATS in its last seven home games. The total has stayed UNDER in five of those seven contests.

  • SU: 9-1

  • SU - Home: 5-1
  • SU - Away: 1-0

The Longhorns’ lopsided 84-59 romp over Kansas on Jan. 2 was followed by Tuesday’s tighter-than-expected six-point win at home against Iowa State as 12 ½-point favorites.

Guard Courtney Ramsey scored 18 points in the win against the Jayhawks while another guard Andrew Jones posted 23 points in Tuesday’s win. These are two of five players averaging at least 12 points per game. Matt Coleman III is the highest-scoring guard in the lineup with 13.7 PPG.

Texas is averaging 76 points a game as a team and shooting 44.8 percent from the field. It is converting on 34 percent of its shots from three-point range. The team is also averaging 41 rebounds a game. The defense is holding opposing teams to 63.1 PPG.

Betting Analysis – West Virginia Mountaineers

  • SU: 9-3
  • ATS: 6-6
  • SU - Home: 4-0
  • SU - Away: 2-2
  • O/U: 7-5

West Virginia closed as a slight road underdog in each Big 12 loss. It covered as a 1 ½-point home favorite in Monday’s three-point win against Oklahoma State. Three of its first four conference games this season have been decided by five points or less.

Forward Derek Culver had the hot hand on Monday night with 22 points and he also pulled down 19 rebounds to help his team erase a 19-point second-half deficit. Culver is second on the team in scoring (13.8 PPG) behind guard Miles McBride (15.3 PPG).

The Mountaineers are scoring an average of 75.3 points with 41.1 total rebounds a game. They are shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from outside the three-point line. Defensively, West Virginia is giving up an average of 69.5 PPG.

Texas-West Virginia Predictions

Texas is the hottest Big 12 team right now on the court but they remain cold with bettors at 5-5 ATS.

Other than the blowout loss to Kansas, the Mountaineers are playing every team close win or lose. Given the matchup at hand, my best bet in Saturday’s game is Texas on the money line with the SU win.

My lean on the total line is OVER in this early featured showdown on ESPN. Each team has a few players that can put points on the board and they should add up quickly this Saturday afternoon at WVU Coliseum.

  • Score Prediction: Texas 74, West Virginia 72
  • Best Bets: Texas
  • Best Bets: OVER 138 ½
