Jay Huff scored 18 points in Virginia’s recent 80-68 victory over Notre Dame as a -9.5-point home favorite. Sam Hauser also helped to pace that win with 15 points and nine rebounds. These two forwards have been setting the pace all season long as the team’s top two scorers.

Hauser (13.8 points) also leads the way in rebounds (7.5). Huff is connecting on 65.4% of his shots from the field. The Cavaliers are averaging 72.4 points per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range.

Total rebounds have not been a strong suit with 32.3 a game. Known for its stout defense over the years, Virginia is holding opposing teams to 60.3 PPG with 29.4 rebounds at that end of the court.

Clemson owes a great deal of its early success this season to forward Aamir Simms with a team-high 12.6 points and 5.8 rebounds a game.

He is joined by guards’ Nick Honor (10.7 points) and Al-Amir Dawes (9.7 points) as the bulk of the Tigers’ offensive output. Everything adds up to a team scoring average of 68.3 PPG.

The Tigers are shooting 42.7% from the field and 33.9% from outside the three-point line. They are pulling down an average of 34.5 rebounds a game.

What really has Clemson ranked No. 12 in the nation is a shutdown defense that is only giving up an average of 57.6 points a game. This defense is also holding opposing teams to a 29.9 shooting percentage from three-point range.

Virginia-Clemson Predictions

Virginia may have dominated this series for the past several seasons but this is one of Clemson’s best teams in recent memory. The Tigers have yet to beat one of the elite teams in the ACC but Saturday is a golden opportunity for a statement victory.

This one should be a grinder from start to finish and I'm taking Clemson to grind out the win both SU and ATS. Each of these teams have been drawing some low total lines from the oddsmakers in recent games, so expect this one to be even lower than normal.

Yet, defense is going to dictate the outcome one way or the other. Defense is also going to keep this game UNDER the current line.

  • Score Prediction: Clemson 59 Virginia 56
  • Best Bets: Clemson -2
  • Best Bets: UNDER
