Odds Subject to Change
West Virginia is the home favorite, given a -1-point spread. The Mountaineers have covered just eight of 17 games this season. Kansas has failed to cover the spread in 10 of 17 games.
The point total is set at 141.5, which goes OVER slightly for both teams. West Virginia has gone OVER in 11 of 17 games while Kansas is 9-8 on the O/U, which equates to a 20-14 O/U combined.
Betting Analysis – Kansas Jayhawks
Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)
- SU: 12-6
- ATS: 7-10
- SU - Home: 8-1
- SU - Away: 4-5
- O/U: 9-8
The Jayhawks are reeling a bit, losing four of their last six games. All four losses, however, have come on the road. This does not bode well entering Saturday’s game, as West Virginia is 8-2 at home this year.
David McCormack has really stepped up, now the second-highest points scorer on the team with 12.3 per game. He also has 5.7 rebounds per game. McCormack has scored 15 points or more in three straight games along with six of his last eight.
Although McCormick saw a double-double against West Virginia earlier this season, it was actually Christian Braun who led Kansas in scoring. Braun had 22 total points and connected on six three-pointers.
In fact, the Jayhawks shot 43% from beyond the arc by connecting on an astounding 16 three-pointers. West Virginia only made half of that, mostly from Sean McNeil, who had six in the game.
Besides hitting an insane amount of three point shots, Kansas limited West Virginia big man Derek Culver. It will be difficult for Kansas to mirror another three point frenzy against the Mountaineers, however, trying to limit Culver once again should be the game plan from Bill Self's group.
Betting Analysis – West Virginia Mountaineers
Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)
- SU: 12-5
- ATS: 8-9
- SU - Home: 8-2
- SU - Away: 4-3
- O/U: 11-6
Derek Culver is the name that has to step up for West Virginia, as Kansas only limited him to eight total points in their first encounter. Culver is a monster down low, averaging a double-double and has seen two straight.
Despite losing to Florida a few games back, Culver found himself on the free throw line 17 times. It’s the second time Culver has been to the free-throw line on double-digit attempts the season. Ironically, though, West Virginia lost both games (the other to Gonzaga).
More importantly than Culver playing well, Miles McBride must to step up. McBride played well against Kansas earlier this season, however, he has only scored nine total points in each of his last two games.
He is the leading scorer for West Virginia and responsible for the the home win against Texas Tech last week. If McBride scores less than 10 points in this game, it will be very difficult for West Virginia to win. Both McNeil and Taz Sherman have stepped up, but the burden falls on both Culver and McBride to play well if they wish to beat a desperate Kansas team.

Kansas-West Virginia Predictions
West Virginia should win this game, as Kansas is struggling to score points which is very true on the road. The game should be kept close, but lean with the home team here. As is with many -1-point spread, feel free to live bet West Virginia for plus-value on the SU instead.
The point total is difficult based on the given line, but feel free to play the smart odds. The 11-6 O/U for West Virginia and 9-8 O/U for Kansas slightly favors the OVER. The spread seems easier because it's low, and its also easy to bet against Kansas' recent form and 7-10 ATS. The point total is more difficult but should go OVER with the expectation both schools come out looking to turn around their inconsistent seasons.
- Score Prediction: West Virginia 72 Kansas 70
- Best Bets: OVER
- Best Bets: West Virginia SU
