LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Predictions

LSU will put its straight-up eight-game winning streak on the line this Saturday. The Tigers’ closest call this season was a five-point victory against Penn State as eight-point favorites. The overall strength of schedule is not that high, but LSU has been able to play up to expectations on a very consistent basis.

Georgia Tech is feeling the sting of back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and North Carolina as a 3.5-point home underdog in both games. This snapped a SU five-game winning streak. Things are not going to get any easier this Saturday against a team that should continue to rise up the national rankings.

Winning on the road against another program from a major conference is never easy to do. However, LSU has the clear edge across more than a few aspects of this matchup. This game gives the Tigers a chance to make a statement against their toughest test to date. I have them passing that test with relative ease.

LSU Tigers Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 8-0
  • ATS: 7-1
  • O/U: 1-7

What makes LSU’s perfect 8-0 start even more impressive is its almost perfect 7-1 record against the spread. The Tigers covered seven points in a recent 75-61 road win against Wake Forest as another ACC team. Well rested for Saturday’s game, they beat Ohio 66-51 on Dec. 1 as 11-point favorites.

The total has stayed UNDER in seven of LSU’s first eight games behind a relentless defensive effort that is only giving up an average of 53.8 points per game. At the other end of the court, a trio of players scoring in double figures is leading a scoring effort that adds up to 79.5 PPG.

Forward Darius Days tops that list with 16 points a game closely followed by forward Tari Eason (14.6 points). Eason leads the team in rebounds with 7.9 a game. Center Efton Reid rounds out that trio with 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds.

The Tigers are shooting 47.1% from the field and 32.6% from three-point range. They have been effective from the free throw line at 80%. With an average of 40.5 rebounds, including 11.4 on offense, LSU presents the complete package as a nationally ranked team that is getting stronger with each win.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-3
  • ATS: 2-6
  • O/U: 5-3

The Yellow Jackets started the new season with a stunning 72-69 loss to Miami-Ohio as 9.5- point favorites. Their biggest win of the year came on Nov. 19 with an 88-78 victory against rival Georgia as -3.5-point favorites. The recent losses dropped their record to 5-3 SU while going just 2-6 ATS.

Georgia Tech gave Wisconsin a battle in a tight 70-66 loss. However, it was outclassed and out manned in last Sunday’s 79-62 beat down in its ACC opener against North Carolina. The Yellow Jackets have been held below their 72.9-point scoring average in each of their last three games.

Guard Michael Devoe has been a force with 23.3 PPG while shooting 55.2% from the field and 54.5% from three-point range. Guard Jordan Usher is the only other player scoring in double figures with 13.5 PPG. He is shooting 47.4% from the field but that drops to 26.9% from three- point range.

The Yellow Jackets, as a team, are shooting 48.1% from the field while connecting on 40.3% of their shots from outside the three-point line. Their conversion rate from the free throw line is a shaky 67.5%. Georgia Tech is averaging 36 rebounds while holding opposing teams to 68.3 PPG.

LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Conclusion

The Yellow Jackets are going to have their hands full against LSU this Saturday. Devoe is a NBA-caliber player but that will not be enough to close the overall gap in talent between these two teams. LSU is on a roll and I do not see the Tigers getting tripped up to snap its current winning streak.

There is no recent history between these two teams. LSU has not been the best road team over the past few years at 9-11 SU and 8-12 ATS. The best way to go was on the total line with 15 of those 20 road games going OVER the closing line.

Checking Georgia Tech’s betting performance on its home court, it is 14-6 SU over 20 games with an 8-12 record ATS. The Yellow Jackets have failed to cover in their last five games at home. The lean on the total line over those 20 home games is towards the OVER at 12-7-1.
