OHIO STATE BUCKEYES VS. MINNESOTA GOLDEN GOPHERS PREDICTIONS

The Buckeyes stepped out of conference to spank IUPUI by an 83-37 margin last Tuesday, covering a 33-point number as the UNDER connected for a second straight time. The Buckeyes were a very efficient 28-of-49, or 57%, from the field, while dropping in 11-of-23, or 48%, of the team's 3-point attempts in the laugher. In addition, Ohio State turned it over just seven times while outrebounding the smallish Jaguars 27 to 17. It wasn't terribly indicative of what they'll face against Minnesota in a conference road game, but it was a nice confidence builder when you essentially can do whatever you want in a game.

The Golden Gophers had a much more stern test, easing by Rutgers 68-65 on this very same floor, covering as 4.5-point underdog for just their second conference win in seven tries. Minnesota was very efficient 26-of-48, or 54%, from the field, while also shooting 54%, or 13-of-24, from downtown. It was mostly a long-distance shooting night, and the Gophers only got to the free-throw line four times, hitting three of them. The Gophers were outrebounded 24-to-21, and can expect that trend to continue against a much bigger frontcourt from the Buckeyes.

OHIO STATE BUCKEYES BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 12-4
  • ATS: 7-9
  • O/U: 10-6

The UNDER has cashed in each of the past two games, the first time the UNDER has hit in consecutive games all season for the Buckeyes. The last time the UNDER hit in two or more games was a 3-0 UNDER run to close out the regular season from Feb. 25-March 6.

The Buckeyes have consecutive wins over Penn State and IUPUI, snapping back on track after losing two of three games from Jan. 6-13. Ohio State hasn't had a lot of success on the road, going 1-4 ATS in the past five away games. Ohio State has a tough time on Thursdays, too, going 0-5 ATS in the past five appearances on the day.

The OVER has cashed in 19 of the past 26 games on the road, while going 20-6 in the past 26 away from home against teams with a winning road record. The UNDER is 3-0-1 in the past four against teams with a losing record, though.

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 11-5

  • O/U: 10-6

Minnesota snapped a four-game losing skid with a win over Rutgers, 68-65, last time out. The losses came against Indiana and Michigan State on the road, and Iowa at home and Illinois at home. The Golden Gophers has cashed in two of the past three games after an 0-3-1 ATS slide, and 2-6-1 ATS skid in nine games from Nov. 24-Jan. 9.

The Golden Gophers have posted a 1-5-1 ATS mark across the past seven home outings, while going 1-4-1 ATS in the past six at home against teams with a losing road record. Unlike Ohio State, Minnesota doesn't have a case of the Thursdays. They're 10-4 ATS in the past 14 Thursday appearances.

The OVER has hit in four straight meetings overall, while going 6-3-1 in the past 10 meetings in this series. In the past four matchups, Ohio State has won just once outright, while Minnesota is 4-0 ATS during the span.

The Buckeyes have cashed in just one of the past five games on the road. (AP)

OHIO STATE BUCKEYES VS. MINNESOTA GOLDEN GOPHERS BETTING CONCLUSION

The Buckeyes have had their issues against the Golden Gophers in recent years, losing three of the past four games while Minnesota has covered four in a row in this series. More importantly, Ohio State has really struggled on the road this season. They're 2-3 SU/1-4 ATS in five true road games this season, with a near-miss overtime win at Nebraska on Jan. 2 nearly making things even worse. The past two trips at Indiana and Wisconsin have seen Ohio State lose by an average of 13.0 PPG.

While Ohio State has struggled away from home, Minnesota has struggled everywhere. They're just 1-4 SU/2-3 ATS across the past five conference games, although they have picked up covers in two of the past three. They got a little bit of confidence against Rutgers, but Ohio State is quite a bit more talented. The Buckeyes should be able to come away with a road win, but the Gophers will pick up the cover.
