TCU Horned Frogs vs. Texas Longhorns Predictions

The Horned Frogs slapped the brakes on a three-game losing skid with a 77-67 win and cover against West Virginia last time out, covering a 4.5-point number as the OVER connected. It was the first cover since Feb. 8 against Oklahoma, too. The 77 points also tied a high-water mark in conference play, accomplished on two other occasions against Oklahoma State.

The Longhorns topped the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth by a 73-50 score, embarrassing TCU on its home court back on Jan. 25 as 2.5-point favorites. The 50-point effort was the lowest total of the season for TCU.

Texas has lost two of the past three, including last time out on Saturday against Texas Tech, 61-55. The Longhorns are 1-2 ATS in the past three outings, too. Defense was much better last time out against Texas Tech after three rough games at that end of the floor, cashing the UNDER against the Red Raiders after three straight OVER results.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Analysis

  • SU 17-8
  • ATS 13-9-3
  • OU 12-11-2

The Horned Frogs entered the West Virginia game with a 0-2-1 ATS mark in the previous three games, and a 1-3-1 ATS mark in the previous five outings, before a cover by 4.5 points.

TCU is 12-5-3 ATS in the past 20 games overall, although one of the non-covers were against Texas in that blowout loss at home. The Horned Frogs are 6-1-1 ATS in the past eight games on the road, too. TCU is 1-3-1 ATS in the past five tries against teams with a winning record.

For totals, the Horned Frogs have hit the OVER in seven of the past nine games overall, while the OVER is 4-0 in the past four games following a straight-up win. However, the UNDER is 12-5 in the past 17 against teams with a winning overall mark, and the UNDER hit in that first meeting with the Longhorns, too.

Texas Longhorns Betting Analysis

  • SU 19-8
  • ATS 12-15
  • OU 12-15

Longhorns C Tre Mitchell (personal) hasn't played since Feb. 12 due to personal reasons. He is fifth on the team in scoring with 8.7 PPG, and he also has 4.0 RPG and 1.3 APG with 0.7 BPG. The big man was missed in a 61-55 loss against Texas Tech at the Erwin Center on Saturday as the UNDER cashed.

The Longhorns have dropped two of the past three, while going 1-2 ATS in the span. Texas has had a difficult time against the number lately, going 4-7 ATS across the past 11 games overall, while going just 2-4 ATS in the past six outings at home.

A matchup against TCU could be just the elixir Texas needs to cure its ills against the number. Texas has won six straight in this series since TCU's last win on March 9, 2019. Texas has covered each of the past six meetings, too. For totals, the UNDER has edged the OVER 5-3 in the past eight meetings.

The UNDER is 4-1 in the past five games at home for the Longhorns, while going 11-4 in the past 15 games against teams with a winning overall record. The UNDER is also 5-2 in the past seven games following a SU loss, too.

TCU Horned Frogs vs. Texas Longhorns Conclusion

The Longhorns are missing a big presence in the paint, and it's uncertain when Mitchell will be able to return. With or without Mitchell, the Longhorns should be just fine against a TCU team which Texas usually handles pretty well. They did just that in the first meeting in Fort Worth, embarrassing the Horned Frogs by 23 points.

In case you were wondering, Mitchell had just seven points on 3-of-8 shooting, while misfired on two of his three free-throw opportunities in that first meeting, so his presence wasn't a huge difference. Of course, he did have seven rebounds and a blocked shot, so somebody will have to step up and fill the void on defense. Still, with or without Mitchell, the Longhorns are a little more deeper than the Frogs, and this should be another Texas victory, although I think TCU keeps it within single digits and ends an 0-6 ATS skid in this series.
