TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS vs. TCU HORNED FROGS PREDICTIONS

The ninth ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders beat the Oklahoma Sooners 66-42 this past Tuesday night. The Red Raiders shot 57.1% from the field and dominated the glass 31-17. On the defensive end the Red Raiders forced 21 turnovers and created 26 points from them. Texas Tech has now four in a row, seven of their last eight, and are a perfect 17-0 at home this season. With a conference record of 11-4, the Red Raiders are third in the Big-12 standings.

TCU is coming off a 75-66 road loss to Texas this past Wednesday night. The Horned Frogs shot 53.1% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, while holding Texas to 44% shooting from the field and just 7.1% from three. Turnovers cost TCU the game, giving the ball up 17 times while only creating eight themselves. TCU has now dropped four of their last five games and are fifth in the Big-12 with a conference record of 6-8.

The first meeting between these two teams ended with Texas Tech winning 82-69. Texas Tech shot the ball 53.8% from the field and 55.6% from three, while TCU shot a respectable 46.3% from the field and 40.7% from three. Turnovers killed the Horned Frogs, giving the ball up 20 times compared to the Red Raiders 11 turnovers. This game should be closer than the first matchup, but I like Texas Tech to win plus cover again in this one. TCU has been turning the ball over way too much this season and shouldn’t change in this one. Laying the points with the Red Raiders in this one.

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 22-6
  • ATS: 20-8
  • O/U: 13-15

exas Tech has been great ATS this season with a 20-8 record. In their last 10 games, Texas Tech is 9-1 ATS. The Red Raiders have had recent success against the Horned Frogs, posting a 9-2 ATS record in their last 11 games when playing on the road against TCU. The total has gone under in 15 of the Red Raider’s 28 games played. The total has also gone under in six of their last seven road games.

The Red Raiders offense focuses on getting the most efficient shot available every time down the floor, as opposed to running the offense through one player. On the season, Texas Tech is averaging 73.7 PPG (112th), 47 FG% (50th), 31.4 3PT%, (283rd), 13.6 APG (146th), and 37.3 RPG (64th). The Red Raiders will look to replicate their first offensive performance against the Horned Frogs, shooting 53.8 FG% and 55.6% from three.  While they may not have as much success shooting on the road, expect Texas Tech to have another efficient outing.

Texas Tech’s defense is the heart and soul of this team. Entering this matchup, the Red Raiders are allowing 60.4 PPG (13th), 38.2 FG% (8th), 31.9 3PT% (100th), while averaging 8.3 SPG (39th) and 3.5 BPG (133rd). The defense did a nice job creating 20 turnovers in their first matchup against TCU. Turnovers have been huge for the Red Raiders all season, averaging 18.3 point off turnovers per game.

TCU HORNED FROGS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 17-9
  • ATS: 14-9-3
  • O/U: 14-12

TCU has been profitable on the season with a 14-9-3 ATS record. In their last five games, the Horned Frogs have gone 2-2-1 ATS. TCU is just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games when playing at home against Texas Tech. The total has gone over in 14 of TCU’s 26 games this season, including eight of their last 11. Following this trend, the total has gone over in six of the last eight games against Texas Tech.

The Horned Frogs offense is led by sophomore guard Mike Miles who is averaging 14.8 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 4.0 APG. As a team, TCU is averaging 68.3 PPG (249th), 43.9 FG% (198th), 30.1 3PT% (325th), 14 APG (114th), and 39.8 RPG (18th). Turnovers killed TCU in the first matchup and has been a common theme for the Horned Frogs throughout the season, turning the ball over 14.7 times per game. If they want to hang around with the Red Raiders, TCU will have to limit their turnovers.

TCU’s defense has given up 70 PPG over their last five games, well above their season average. Entering this matchup, the Horned Frogs are allowing 64.3 PPG (41st), 41.8 FG% (103rd), 31.3 3PT% (67th), while averaging 6 SPG (238th) and 4 BPG (81st). TCU allowed Texas Tech to shoot way to high of a percentage in their first matchup (53.8 FG%, 55.6 3PT%). The Horned Frogs will need to tighten things up on defense and force the Red Raiders to take low-percentage shots.

Texas Tech has covered the spread in five of its last eight eight road matches. (AP)

TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS vs. TCU HORNED FROGS BETTING CONCLUSION

The Red Raiders have been playing great basketball as of late and some may say the opposite about TCU. The Horned Frogs have not been all around bad, they just need to figure out their turnover situation before I can back them. Texas Tech has allowed 42 and 55 points their last two games with 34 total turnovers created on the defensive end. For that reason I like the Red Raiders to get the win plus cover.
